I got my Blick order today. The one thing I was really looking forward to wasn't there. I forgot to order it. It was an electric eraser. I never thought too much about electric erasers until I put a click eraser in my electric engraver and tested it. Holy crap it worked slick but the engraver is bluky. So I ordered one from Amazon and saved myself a ton in shipping. This thing is great for doing animal hair and highlights in grass not to mention it erases better than any of my other erasers.

I got some various grades of charcoal pencils since I only had 3, various tint earth color pencils, a black eraser which erases dark charcoal better, a bunch of stumps and chamois and some Krylon workable fixafif. I should be set for awhile. :)

An electric eraser? What'll they think of next! I just watched a YouTube review of several, and now I wonder which kind you got and what made you decide on that one.

    Are those photos of you?

I was never lucky enough to have either. My mom used to sew most of my clothes, and I remember begging for a poodle skirt in maybe 5th grade or so. The best I managed were saddle shoes. I don't know why (but I suspect finances had something to do with it), but my mom never bought me the latest fad, or she held out till it was passe, then got it for me.

When I was in 5th grade, My mama sewed me a poodle skirt for a sock hop we had. My mama is 'sew' talented. She learned to weave baskets a few years back while visiting Grandma in New York, She can also quilt, knit, crochet,... And sadly I didn't take after her much (I was adopted:p) But man, she sure is awesome!

I just got a cheapy. Amazon.com: Derwent Battery Operated Eraser (2301931): Office Products

You can see the edge on the eraser and how you can make quick straight thin lines. I tried to get the same effect with a click eraser but I had to go over the line several times to white it out and it wasn't thin when I got done.

The man in the review sharpened them on an emory board paddle so that the eraser had a point for finer lines. He didn't like the Derwent much because the eraser wobbled instead of being held tight. I watched the review so I could see what one is and what it does, but it was interesting what he said about them. It's an interesting concept. I suppose I should do more research on what I could do with one. I wonder if I could use a regular eraser if I sharpened it to a point.

Anyway, let me know how you like it and what you use it for. I'm interested because I never even heard of one before.

I didn't even read the review. I saw an artist that I like on Youtube use one. He got his on Blick but it's around $50+

With the electric you can sharpen it to a point with sandpaper or you can cut the end of so you have a flat point with nice sharp edges. I'll be doing both with the electric. For those pink rubber erasers and the white ones I cut off a corner to get a sharp point. I'm into gadgets so the electric eraser with be fun. I only wish I didn't have to erase.

Well crap! They lowered the price $1.54 right after I ordered.

I found some Youtube vids on electric erasers and the reviewer compared several and didn't like mine at all. :( But the review of mine by Derwent said that they had made improvements to it so I hope I'm getting the new and improved model.

From what little I found out so far, the erasing is to get thin white lines and highlights, not to erase a mistake. So it's more a drawing technique than really just erasing stuff. However, if the area you want to erase is small enough, I bet it does a fine job.

You're probably right and that is what I saw in the vids. I've been using my engraver for erasing small areas and lines and it's been working great so it has a dual purpose.

On YouTube, Darrell Tank reviews a number of different electric erasers. The video is in 2 parts, and I don't remember which part had the Derwent, but it might have been Part 2, since he reviews the bigger ones first. See Electric Eraser Review part 1 - YouTube for Part 1, and at the end, you can click to get Part 2. I thought this was the most informative video, just because it compared a lot of different ones.
