Get ready for part 2 of the Chit Chat thread. It's already started happening.

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...megathreads-restarting-15k-posts-gotonew.html

I could be wrong but I don't think they split vendor threads although I know they mistakenly did the last go around.

Edit:Oops, they already did it here once? I heard a lot of complaining from some vendors and they got there threads put back together. I think one was Trippy Tips. Again, I could be wrong.

That already happened to us once, so I guess when it does again, it'll be part 3. Has anyone told Imagine about this? I think she needs to be involved.
I don't know, Sandy. Management would like the original OP to start the new thread, if possible, so I'm sure that she will be contacted.

Good question, Terry. My guess is that all threads with over 15k posts will be split.

Deejstuff's (vendor) thread has been split. It's now on part 4.

What if you put in the white first, then colored over it, then smudged? That works for me with pastels. I do white horse whiskers that extend out into the background like that.

I could do that in some circumstances but let's say I do a snowy forest. I would do the trees and they when I tried to use a white pencil for the snow it would turn out gray. That's were a fine point eraser comes in handy.

Trippy Tips has never been split and they have over 113k posts.

Pictures of your setup thread has never been split either and they have over 26k posts but they've been warned that it might get split. (this isn't a vendor thread though)
A few might have been missed, Terry. They are splitting the threads, because the mega threads are creating too much of a burden on the servers. That's why I seriously doubt if the vendor threads will be spared.

I got a set of tinted color charcoal pencils to try but haven't tried them yet. They are nature colors but there is no green in the set and I thought there was so I'm kinda bummed about that but I can get one locally. I was thinking about doing graphite and color together but I'm not sure how that will work.

I love that look (b&w with a hint or splash of color), even when it's not realistic. I say keep it mostly b&w and find something to highlight with color (like the tiger's eyes or that tree in the middle), or find one thing to add color to (like a little blue in the sky). Or you could do graphite and another color and make it look like a duotone (that might be a little harder to do though - it would be like drawing it twice in overlapping layers).

Reminds me a little of the b&w photos that I used to hand-color, which I thought were pretty cool, so yeah, no wonder I like it.

What I do in cases like that (which is nearly always) is to block in the whole picture before coloring anything in. Then I color the basic shade in the spots that need that color. So I would already have an outline of where there would be snow on the trees and then I just wouldn't color that part in with the tree's color. I'd color it in with white. The outline I make first is very light, so it's easy to go over it with a color if I want to, but I try to outline in some compatible color. For instance, I use black or dark brown on a dark horse, but for Corky, I used gray to draw the outline.

I understand why they are doing this and I think it is a good idea if it will speed up page loading but my point was Trippy Tip has never been split. That thread was started in 2011. The last split was much later than that. I'm just thinking that if a vendor doesn't want their thread split they may make an exception.

That's what I had in mind. Mostly b&w with a little color for accent or to bring out a feature or dull the monotony. The duotone is not for me though. :)

I forget why this thread was interrupted and started again, but I don't think it was because of size. I think it had something to do with Smokeless Image's status on ECF. They were applying for vendor status (or something like that) and finally got it, so we had to start the thread over again. It was fairly painless, though sometimes right after the split, referring back to old posts which were on the other part was hectic.

I do the same thing but I was thinking about those snowy tree branches that looked like a nightmare to draw. I wouldn't be able to outline all that snow. If there is just a little snow then I outline it so I don't draw in that spot at all. Or, for a lot of snow on the ground I lightly shade all the snow and then erase so the snow stands out from the shadows.

If I ever get into pastels, all this info will be very helpful....if I don't forget it.

Duotones are a PITA (even in Photoshop, like I used to do), but they do add a lot of depth. But either way, you've got my vote! ;)
