I've been contemplating what to draw next. I keep looking at that snowy river photo you posted awhile back but I don't like all those sticks in the river. They look ugly and would be hard to draw. I want to put something there that would lead the eye down the river into the background but I haven't decided what. Any suggestions?

I just looked at the photo. Is it the sticks in the water that you don't like? What if you had the globs of snow but no sticks? That should work.

I think most of the appeal to that photo is the late-afternoon light making the trees golden. Would it be as interesting in b&w? Hmm … I could make it b&w. I think I'll do that and see what it looks like.

It definitely looks better in color. Let me know what you think of it in B&W.

Edit: More clumps of snow is a possibility.

I've already seen it in B&W. What do you think?

I have an orange charcoal pencil I could do the tree in. Would that look stupid in a B&W drawing?

The thing I don't like about it in B&W is that it is so dark because most of the snow is in shade.

You could lighten it. But I think it loses a lot being in b&w. I found some other creeks in the snow that look OK in b&w. I have to put them into PhotoBucket, but then I'll post them and see if any of them sing to you.

I found this picture on line of Holly River Run in Webster County, West Virginia - the original is in color and I modifed it as a B&W using Lunapic . . . IMO - This one might be interesting for "You" to do - since it would definatly give Ya' an opportunity to play with Shadows/Shading . . .

Oh wow that is a beautiful pic. It looks pretty good in b&w too. It would be a challenge for sure. I haven't done waterfalls or trees before but want to learn to do them. Thanks. :)

Good morning peeps.

We are leaving Dodge to cut up some trees later today. Not my idea of a good time but Hubby is happy:) Then, dinner out using my gift card at Applebees. Overall, an easy day and I could use an easy day.

Hope you find a photo you like to draw, Terry.

Hope the wether is good for getting Penny's feet trimmed, SandySu.

Hope your project is moving forwards, Zero.

Good morning. I'm back from Penny's foot trimming already. It was cold, but I dressed for it. The worst thing was the wind, and in the barn, it wasn't so bad. But all the horses were out in the yard eating their morning hay, and when I brought Penny inside, she was very upset, whinnying and not wanting to stand still. Even so, I groomed her and switched blankets. It was a little difficult on a moving object, but I got it done. She was also not so good for the trimmer, but most of the time, she stood, even though she was very upset. She would relax for a few seconds, then remember she was supposed to be agitated, and we'd have another round. I wish she'd accept that sometimes she has to come into the barn alone with no herd mates in sight. I bring her in and do what I have to do, but often, I lure her friends in with hay in the run-in part so she'll be more manageable. Today, was quick; we didn't linger to chat because of Penny's attitude, the cold, and also because the trimmer was away for a short while, so today he's catching up on all the horses he didn't trim while he was gone. He went off to take a class in horse emergency rescue. I would have liked to hear more about it. Maybe next time.
