Actually, no, the cones won't work, unless I grind them down till they at at least flush with the battery terminal...or maybe al little past.

The beauty rings that Terry mentioned are about 10mm high and 14mm diameter. They work great for clearos and tanks, but your cartos would be swimming in that larger diameter. That might not be so beautiful. Why'd you have to grind down the shorty cones for cartos?

I ground it down to use with the SI mini clearo and ego-type lanyard. I'm currently trying to find something that will let me use my lanyards with an 808 esmart clearo--love these little guys!

I hope you aren't too cold, Catlady.

My smoke alarm started the low battery beep this morning. Penny Poo Poo is hiding. She hates the smoke alarm.

I am such a bad horse mommy. Yesterday afternoon, late, I emptied Nevada's water since it looked scummy. Then, about nine o'clock last night, I thought, "Hey, did I get Nevada his new water."

I got out the lantern and trudged out in the dark and sure enough, I forgot to refill. I gave him his water and he drank some right away. So glad he didn't have to go all night without water.

I'm glad you remembered the water, and certainly, it's better for horses to have water in front of them constantly so they can drink when they are thirsty, but don't feel too bad. Old-fashioned barns had one water trough, and several times a day, they took the horses out of their stalls so they could drink. Those horses din't have water whenever they wanted, and they did just fine. It's better to have water available to a horse all the time, but it's been done differently, and I think horses can go without water for several hours w/o serious harm.

Yes, they can go without water but these little guys can have impaction colic sort of easily so it is best to have plenty of water available especially while they are eating.

Nevada has had a bit of a runny nose lately. It is clear snot but I am keeping my eye on him. He is eating and drinking, pooping and .........all the stuff horses are supposed to be doing. I haven't taken him out to the round pen for several days because of it. Wanted him to rest up a bit.

Nevada gets himself into a lather everytime we go to the round pen so my next goal is to put him on a lunge line, get him to concentrate and settle down. Let's see how that goes.

The runny nose is worrisome. Does he have a fever? If not, I'd take a wait-and-see approach, but if there's a fever, then you might want to call the vet. Watch Wiseguy, too. It might be catching. Then again, it could be irritation from dust from the hay or some other source. Maybe wet down your hay when you feed it and see if that clears it up.

I was just noticing how dusty this hay is. Maybe I will try wetting it down.

So far, Wiseguy is fine. I need to get an animal thermometer so I don't know if he has a fever but he seems okay except for the little bit of a runny nose.

I've already seen it in B&W. What do you think?

I have an orange charcoal pencil I could do the tree in. Would that look stupid in a B&W drawing?

The thing I don't like about it in B&W is that it is so dark because most of the snow is in shade.

Nope. Wouldn't look stupid at all. I like the idea. Especially if you used the orange mostly at the tips of only the trees where the sun is hitting. I've seen that in nature and it's breathtaking.

I forget why this thread was interrupted and started again, but I don't think it was because of size. I think it had something to do with Smokeless Image's status on ECF. They were applying for vendor status (or something like that) and finally got it, so we had to start the thread over again. It was fairly painless, though sometimes right after the split, referring back to old posts which were on the other part was hectic.

We just had the one thread, and it was too difficult to wade through the Chit Chat to find information on the Volt products. So ... we fractured. It was great!!

Buzz sounds like he was a fantastic horse. I like it when they aren't too jumpy...unlike my little Wiseguy who is constantly scanning the area for trouble.

We have our next lesson tomorrow. The weather is supposed to be cloudy but there isn't supposed to be any wind so wish us luck. Wiseguy is going to try to go downhill with his new breeching on. I checked out the only suitable hill twice and no dogs. The hill has a large puddle at the bottom so that is a bit spooky. I hope Wiseguy will be okay. He doesn't have to get his feet wet if he listens to me and we go to the right but the big question is "Will he listen to me?"

Also, I will not have two of us in the cart when we go down the hill. Wiseguy is pulling twice is weight or a little better with the two of us in the cart and I won't have him being shoved down the hill by our combined weight. I am certain the trainer will understand that and get out to walk down the hill.

Can't wait to hear how your adventure down the hill goes. :)

Well, Voltville--they say we may get snow in North FL. The last time I remember that, (to experience it personally), I was a child--and it was great. I am now an adult, and am not looking forward to any sort of frozen pre-cip, or slick roads. It was all right in the mid-west, but I am pre-emptively dreading it here in the deep south. Send us all good vibes, if it actually happens--we'll need it. It would stink if the only thing that folks had to remember the snow would be the body-shop bill.

Please be careful. They are saying on The Weather Channel that this storm may well be a "historic event". I'd stay home or as close to home as possible if it were me. Just sayin'.

Sure hope that the hay is the reason for Nevada's runny nose and not something more difficult.

Get a digital thermometer instead of the old-fashioned kind with mercury in it. They are much easier to use, and mercury is very poisonous. I've heard of using Vaseline when you insert it, but then someone told me to just spit in your hand and twirl the thermometer in the spit to lubricate it. I think that works much better, even if it sounds yukky. I'm not sure if thermometers are much different for animals than humans. I think you could use a human thermometer. The only difference, really, is that a horse's temperature is higher than a human's, about 100 degrees as compared to our 98.6. It's a good idea to take your horse's temperature a few times when he is healthy to see what's normal for him.

Hello Voltville!

I missed you guys, but it's been a busy weekend. It was mostly a Security System Update weekend. That involved drilling into the house and lots of feeding cable through and positioning and tweaking. But, with the exception of some additional cable that I have on order, I have new "eyes".

Yesterday was a bummer. Two weeks ago, I had propane added to my tank to the tune of $417. Ouch. However, the propane guys showed up again yesterday! I was very surprised to see him so soon after his last "deposit". The bill that he left was for $867.70 !!! That just sent me into a very, shall we say: "somber state". In looking over the two bills, I saw that the propane cost twice as much as it had cost two weeks prior. So ... I called my propane supplier. This was the first that I'd heard about a propane shortage in the Midwest. Apparently, they are trucking it in from Kansas. When that runs out, they'll have to get it in Texas. According to the link below, propane prices are rising at a rate of 60 to 80 cents A DAY!

AG: Conserve Propane During Shortage, Report $ Gouging

Needless to say, I'm bundled up like Randy in A Christmas Story. My BF is bringing me two brand new heaters that he just had sitting on a shelf in the basement, and he'll bring a load of firewood as well because it'll probably be dark before he can get here. Too dark to cut wood. My supply is down to just enough to get us by if the power goes out. For one day. Seems ridiculous to be in a forest and have no firewood. But my son is covering three territories at work and didn't have a chance to cut some for me. He'll try to get home early today to do some sawing. For some reason, these folks still won't let me handle a chainsaw.

So - I've been bummed ... and cold. As soon as I handle some correspondence, I'm going to look into this whole propane business some more and see if there is a way to make payments and/or get assistance since I'm on a fixed income.

Rave, that's awful about the cost of propane! I bet they are raising the prices just because it's been so cold and there's more demand. And I bet once this is all over, the prices will go down a little, but probably not back to where they were. Remember the gas shortage, and then gas prices have been high ever since? Maybe it really is time to consider buying a woodstove. I know they're expensive, but you may save a lot, since you have such a huge supply of wood. It would probably pay for itself in a few years. Maybe someone selling woodstoves would take time payments? Or maybe a bank loan?

Meanwhile, stay warm. I'm sure BF will do his best to keep you warm! ;)

Wow, that sucks. Not like here, where you can happily live without heat either (it went down to 40F a couple of times in Dec, but has been steadily above 60F). I hope there's assistance for you with that.

As for light, Harbor Freight has those solar-powered lanterns. Not very bright, but better than total darkness. I sent a couple home to the Philippines with my mom (she's there again for the winter) for a couple of her friends that have no electricity. She gives them money, but that doesn't solve their problem of having to eat dinner in the dark - hopefully the lanterns will help with that, at least.

Yesterday, on the car radio, as I was driving home, I heard an interview with the figure skater, Jason Brown. I heard that his YouTube video had been viewed more than 3 million times! So of course, I had to go see what everyone else was so taken by. I found the video and watched it, and then I thought I'd share.

esmart clearos. That's a new one on me but then I normally don't use clearos except the Aspires now and then.

808? Is that a stick battery?
