I do 90% DIY - mostly for the cost savings. Almost everything I do is done with a coffee base (extracted) - the rest is tobacco based. Sometimes I buy premixed and use it as accents and at other times I accent with various Capellas, TFA, etc flavors.

I have tried straight sweet vapes and have not cared for them. I thought if I like to eat it - then I would like to vape it. It worked with coffee (I love to drink and vape coffee), but not with sweets.

Recently I mixed up some Blueberry Cheesecake (a weakness of mine) and it tasted just like what it was supposed to taste like and I thought wow a new vape, but the aftertaste that lingered was terrible - so no more vaping it - it will be used up as an accent in some of my coffee mixtures - which it turns out that coffee with blueberry cheesecake is excellent.

I accent my coffee bases differently almost every time I mix them - I only have a couple of favs. I like variety and vape at least 3 different levels of flavors a day - maybe that is why I have trouble with the other flavors and detecting them.

It seems I've read somewhere that you can add a drop or two (per carto) of alcohol (like Everclear or vodka) to increase throat hit/harshness. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I have seen that mentioned in the DIY forum also. Do not know how many people do it though...

Ya, I had the cappuccino in 12 mg. too. I am not a vaper who cares about throat hit. As a matter of fact, when I was smoking cigarettes I was always searching for the one that would be the smoothest and least irritating to my throat. I usually smoked an ultra-light cig. I seem to be very sensitive to the throat hit and I don't like it. The cappuccino cartos actually made me cough, and felt like real smoke in my throat. Since my first order I have gone down to 6 mg. for all of my juice, and I like that better.

Interesting. I just dug out the cappuccino, too, and I taste the coffee flavor, though it's not real strong. I think the basic smoke flavor is stronger. Also, the nic level is higher on this one, so I can't really judge throat hit vs. the 555 and RY4, but it's stronger. Still, not what I'd call "throat fire" at 12 mg.

I don't have a lot of experience with pipe tobacco or cigars, and after reading the comments here I'm starting to think that I am tasting tobacco in the RY4, it's just not the tobacco flavor that I am used to from cigs, it must be more like a pipe tobacco, as was suggested earlier in this thread. Fortunately, I do get a ton of caramel flavor from it too, I love caramel.
Whatever I'm tasting in the RY4 is good with me...I LOVE this stuff!!

When I use RY4 (it is the only tobacco flavor I actually like, I'm more into fruity flavors) I taste a caramel tobacco, with maybe a hint of vanilla. I think it's great, and its definitely one of our more popular flavors! but like others have said, it's all up to what you're into! :D

Okay - maybe it is the vanilla that I'm detecting that gives it such a creamy quality. No matter how ya analyze it - I love it!

If you were smoking ultra lights before, 6mg is the recommended dose for you! Glad to hear that you are enjoying it! :D

I like 6 mg best, too. Throat hit for me is uncomfortable when I just cough after a puff. I can do some flavors with mg in the low teens, but that's as high as I want to go. Having sampled lots of flavors now, I notice some have a stronger throat hit at a lower mg than others do. Interesting how the flavor would affect this as well as the nic level.

It's almost a trial and error kind of thing- but when you find the flavors and strengths that work for you, it makes it THAT much better! :)

Not to change the subject or anything, but...

I'm trying to decide between getting a bottle of RY4 and 555. Which one is more harsh?

I've started making my own juices now and I've made some smooth stuff. I need something harsher to balance things out.

Desert Joe is okay, but I'd like something else. Can't stand Cowboy, so that's out too.

On my original order, I got the Sample Pack, but I was just vaping them like mad and I don't remember what the heck they tasted like.

Any thoughts about 555 vs RY4?
TK, this should be a no-brainer for you: 555. Squirrels like nuts, right?

I don't do tobacco flavors, but here's what I've heard:
RY4 is caramelly
555 is nutty

I say go for the flavor you like and add something to it to make it more harsh, like Rave said...:2c:

OK, I dug out my cartos to vape them and give you a comparison. This is just my opinion. Neither are what I'd call harsh.

555 tastes like a pretty straightforward tobacco taste, maybe with a faint hint of caramel. No, not caramel, something else. It's hard to identify, but it's not just like a cigarette. It has more flavor than just tobacco. As I continue to vape it, sometimes I think it's almost a citrus flavor. See what I mean? It's hard to figure out what else is in there besides tobacco flavor.

RY4 has less of the tobacco taste, more of the "something else." And I doubt that other set of flavors are the same ones they use for 555. Less of the citrus subtle taste, more of the caramel.

In conclusion, if you want a straight tobacco flavor, 555 is more like that, and RY4 has more other flavors, though still a tobacco base.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by harsh. Do you mean tobacco flavor? Do you mean a strong taste? Something that makes you cough? What?

Thanks for experimenting, Sandy. Sounds like the next juice I get would be 555.

Thanks to everyone for their opinions.

TK - If I'm reading this correctly, it sounds like you're looking for more of a throat hit. Right? If so, you could up your nic content in a flavor that you already like.

Or ---- You could try adding Bitter Wizard to a nicquid, which would remove the sweetness factor:

http://www.ecigexpress.com/flavoring-flavourart-condensed-c-16_29/bitter-wizard-by-flavourart-select-size-p-631

Or - You could DIY a batch of Perique Black Flavor. Advertised as "one of the harshest tobacco flavors available. Hints of pepper and salsa."

http://www.ecigexpress.com/flavoring-flavourart-condensed-c-16_29/perique-black-tobacco-select-size-p-309

The closest thing to describing it is this: Did you ever have a drag of a different brand of cig and found that it was just a bit too strong for you? That's what I'm looking for. "harsh" was the closest word I could think of.

Well, it does sorta imply that I have a brain, so...thanks!
