Coffee...For Your Health?
By C. J. Prince

Globally, somewhere between 400 and 500 billion cups of coffee are consumed each year, and, as a commodity, the bean ranks second only to petroleum in terms of dollars traded worldwide. And its future may be even brighter. Although coffee is currently enjoyed around the world as a beverage that delivers bold, rich flavors and a caffeine kick, new scientific research suggests that it may benefit our health and wellness as much as it pleases our palates.

I have read so much about how beneficial tea is and I've tried to like it, but I cannot. We coffee drinkers can perhaps feel good about our addiction, after all.

I remember the days of overclocking... Especially the "gamers" trying to get more performance outta their machines teehee. I was too scared to change anything( back when i had a desktop setup), knew i would have blown something up. Lol so my hours of the night were occupied with the gaming side of ripping and burning instead.
Good to hear you were able to use ebay and its going to keep you going for a good while yet. :)

Do you harvest your rainwater, rave?

Not unless you take into account the amount that ends up in my well. I have the sweetest, cleanest tasting water I've ever tasted. The remainder of the rain is harvested by the trees and plants. :) They needed it badly!

Good afternoon, fellow Volties! I see a few new faces and want to say, "Welcome!"

Hubby had the last three days off work, so I spent more time with him, than on the PC for once! What a nice wife I am, aren't I?!? LOL! On the days he works, I spend my time online when he's at work or sleeping, which he's doing now.

Now that I am officially done with my Associate's degree, I'm seriously thinking of changing schools for my Bachelors. I've been going for a degree in Fine Arts with a concentration in web design, but found a school that offers an IT degree with a concentration in web design. It's more expensive, but I think I'll have more job opportunities with an IT degree. I'm just waiting to see if my credits will transfer and of course, word on financial aid. Won't know much until next week, since I didn't get my official grades until Friday to send off my transcripts. Wish me luck! :)

Sweet little ride you have there, reptilr! I love that color! Hope everyone is doing well!

good luck Tina :)

Thank You for sharing Tommie with us, i was hoping u liked reptiles. i like reptiles and caught since i was kid, i was bit of a snake nut from 8 to 12 years old. Thought i wanted to be a herpetologist back then (reptile scientist). I mainly caught lots of snakes, but i liked catching snapping turtles and lizards too. At my grandmothers in Florida there where lots of lizards to catch (anole's or sometimes called American Chameleons) .

green-anole.jpg

We had a Creek close by with lots turtles, frogs & snakes. There were no pet stores with exotic reptiles back then or i would of had a bunch if my parents would have concured (they made me keep all my critters outside, so all died fairly quickly) Now, occasionally i see one in the yard and catch them, but i let em go with one exception. a couple of years back we caught nice eastern king snake

235px-Lampropeltis_getula_getula.jpg

and the boys really wanted to keep it. Before i told em snakes don't do well in cages but they talked me into giving it a try. we got books and a good cage and he eat well. Anyway, he lived a couple of seasons, and was one to the best snakes we ever had. We also got a ball python later.

Anyway i think my days of reptile raising are done, maybe if they were mine i might reconsider & I still love see'ng em.

By all means, feel good! Just make sure it's filtered (unfiltered coffee is not so good for you). And don't have it in the form of a frappuccino with extra caramel...

Hi Everyone,

Well the British Celebrity Big Brother finished last night and a few of the housemates were vaping e.cigs at the times when they weren't allowed to go outside, then they smoked analogs, a good advert for the community nonetheless. So anyway at the final night they invite all the past celebrities on to the show before they announce the winner. Julie Goodyear a famous Soap Star from the past walked on with an e.cig and I thought it looked like a Volt, here's a pic...

A great advert for e.cigs :)

Rave, did you have those storms last night? We had some pretty strong thunder storms here. Last I heard they were headed east.

We had an incredible thunderstorm, complete with lightning and hail. It was fairly large ice balls, about the size of big marbles. This was yesterday evening, about sunset, maybe 7:30 or so. I went out on my porch to see it, it was so unusual, and some balls of ice scampered up onto the porch. I examined one, and it had an icy center, then an icy coating around that, like a little eye in the center of the ice ball. I worried my car would be dented, but I guess they weren't big enough for that. I watched the hail tear leaves off trees, though, and there was some rain in it, too, since the driveway became a small stream. The next-door neighbor's yard was coated with the hail till it almost looked like snow, but it was in balls, not covering every inch of the ground. It was truly amazing, and I wondered at what nature has to offer sometimes. I also worried about Penny, since I know she would rather stand outside the shelter than crowd in there with the other horses. I hoped she overcame her reluctance when the ice started pelting her. I knew it wouldn't be comfortable.

I went off to work today, and just as I turned out of a small road onto Rt. 96, a 2-lane road into Ithaca, waiting for a car to pass, then entering the road, crossing a bridge and going up the hill, when that car in front of me had to swerve into the lane of oncoming traffic (luckily, there wasn't any oncoming traffic) to avoid a tree falling in its path. If the car had gone straight, it would have been crushed. Luckily, the driver had quick reflexes, and he went around the tree as it was falling! I slowed and inched around the tree, watching for oncoming traffic, since I was in their lane, and noticed the car ahead of me pulled off to the side of the road, and the driver had gotten out to see if there was any damage to his car. I didn't see any major dents, though maybe there were some scratches of branches to the front. He was very quick-witted to avoid a major catastrophe! I heaved a sigh of relief and drove on, since I had to get to work and the driver of the other car seemed fine, as did his car.

My guess is that the hail weakened the tree, which decided to come down in the strong wind this morning, and of all the places that guy had to be, he was almost underneath it. If I had been a few minutes earlier leaving the house, It might have been me, and I don't know if my reactions would have been quick enough to avoid that tree. If he had been 5 seconds quicker leaving his house, he might have not been able to avoid that falling tree. Doesn't it make you wonder about fate and how arbitrary it is?

I'll go see Penny tomorrow morning and see how she fared in the storm. I bet she's very muddy, since there's nothing a wet horse loves to do more than roll in the mud. I'm sure if there was a big problem, the barn owner would have phoned me.

Since you mention rain in the Midwest, and it comes to us soon after, I bet this isn't the last of it.

I am working on my Associate's degree in Occupational Therapy. I'm four months into my core classes. Right now I am content with this position, being a COTA is all hands on, none of the supervisory stuff, but I'll see how it goes later on. Congrats to you and good luck with your continued education.

Coming from someone that works in tech I'd go for IT if you can swing it. The extra tech knowledge is a big plus for the market place.

Never! I drink my coffee black 99.99% of the time. Maybe 2-3 times a year I add a little skim milk.

That's great, Digger. I think helping others is cool and you must be able to help at least some people in a field like that!

Amazing story, SandSu. One time, I went to a Renaissance Fair with my nerdy friend, Tim. {Hey, he's the first to say it:)] and we were walking through the parking lot. This was in Las Vegas. They have lots of Elm trees.

There was no wind at all. An elm tree right in front of us made a cracking noise and half the tree fell onto the roadway with a car going by at that very moment. Fortunately, although the car was smothered in tree branches, everyone in the vehicle was okay.

Let us know how Penny is doing.

Tina good luck with your choosing and did i mention "way to go " "congrats" on passing :)
sandy - what a scare , good to hear everyone involved is safe. Extra hugs for you and penny- i hope she is okay
Chooky - your brave to have kept a wild snake! Especially happy to hear you did the research. :)
Many aussies keep snakes as pets with the appropriate licences. I like looking at them but thats as far as it goes. I have held a baby python but wouldn'nt dare a larger one. Your one has really nice markings! Do you still have him.
Congrats on brad's win. ( in tiny little lettering i better ask "is that your son?)
Outlaw i wish you a cooler day.
Rave im jealous of your nature water. We drive an hour up the mountain every couple of months for fresh water. There is nothing like it.
Im with you lilac i really did try tea, but its just not my thing. All i can managed is peach or raspberry tea.
Better i go and start getting ready for work. Have a good night everyone.
