Blues, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for for all you did for our country. I lost two of my best friends and a first cousin in Vietnam. I know the Heroes welcome didn't come at the proper time from most of our fellow countrymen but believe me when I say it you are a Hero in my heart and thank you for giving all when it counted. I have rode to the Wall every year since 1983 to Honor the fallen and pray for the souls that returned without the welcome they deserved. I understand PTSD in a way most will never comprehend. Two of my College roommates (First Year) were just back from their tour and after hearing the atrocities they endured I was humbled beyond even my own understanding of grief and pain and what a thankless job they did in the name of Freedom. My club was founded by Veterans from the Korean War and my Father (God rest his Soul) was a Marine and served in the so called Korean Conflict plus a 3 year tour in Vietnam from 1954 until 1957 as part of the so called advisory troops that were sent in country to train the south Vietnamese forces. He returned with a Bronze Star and Purple Heart which I still have and treasure to this day. He was just a grunt and in 20 years of service never made it above the rank of Gunnery Sargent. My Father was one of the original members of my MC and we hold all Veterans of Foreign Wars in the highest esteem possible and have several Rides for the cause every year. Before I go to far and sound like I'm preaching I would just like to say Thank You for doing what you did so the rest of us could remain free even if some used that freedom to shame and discredit the efforts of the men and women who gave all for a country that didn't understand what the price of freedom costs, [Rant Off]

Thank you, Officer. And, most importantly, thank you for your work for veterans.

Any time of war is difficult, but the US soldiers were hated over there and we were not treated well back home. The unfortunate thing was that we were not treated well by our own government. It was a bad time.

US citizens have overcome their behavior back then and we treat our soldiers with a much greater respect. We must stand behind those who do defend our freedoms. It is the work by groups like yours that keep us on the right track.

Hi, everyone. I went to my niece’s last night and helped hand out candy while she took her kids trick-or-treating. It was great fun.

Well, I opened my big mouth yesterday about how I hardly ever get a cold. Of course, this morning I have a cold. Half my head is stopped up, sneezing constantly, head feels like it’s ready to explode. Grrrhhh …

JoAnn - I would normally never suggest this, but I'll do it anyhow because I know that it could help. One of the reasons that I'm still vaping even though it has been over three years since my last cigarette is because nicotine helps to relieve nerve pain. Many of us here with neurological disorders use the nicotine to alleviate our symptoms to some degree. I tried reducing my nic level from 18mg down to 6mg and I was amazed at how much worse my MS symptoms felt. When I caught on to that, I found that when my symptoms are particularly bad, if I vape 24mg or even occasionally 36mg for just a few minutes, it provides some relief. I then readminister as needed. I understand that your hubby is a non-smoker and is probably not a vaper, but it might be worth an experiment when he is having a rough time.

Rave, I discovered the same thing! I’ve been vaping for over 3 years, and I just cannot go below 18mg without getting pain attacks. I still do 24mg on occasion.

Awsum, glad to hear your power is back on.

Hmmm, you are right!

I'm going to die LET'S PARTY! :D:D

Konstantine, I don’t really know you that well, since I just recently returned to the forum after being gone for around 20 months. But just know I have been thinking of you & hoping you start feeling better, and that your situation, whatever it is, improves. If it really cannot improve, then hell yes – have a party!

Good morning all, we got the internet back but still no power, maybe tomorrow so they say. Thanks for the coffee Rave, I was up way too late last night and need all I can get. Awsum, glad to hear about your power just put the gas in your car. My Generac runs on Propane so I will just have to save the left overs for the grill. We had so much snow they closed the Blue Ridge Parkway which makes life very quiet up here, I love it. I'm waiting on the farmer from down the road to plow out the driveway and then I'm going out to assess the local damage. It's kinda weird only the top of the driveway has snow and the bottom half is just covered in leaves and small trees.

1st officer, glad to hear you weathered the storm and got your internet back. Welcome back.

Not much to update on Blues' situation. He and others are still working to clear debris and repair damages. It's rough because the more he gets done, the more he uncovers that needs to be done. Disheartening, to say the least. But - no animals were injured and the families that he sheltered were all safe.

Really happy to hear he’s okay and nobody was injured. TY for letting us know.

Stopping by to say hello. As Raven told you, we were hit hard by Sandy. All the animals and people were and are safe which is the important thing. We have damage to some of the buildings here which affects how we take care of the animals. But we're just doing things differently. The more we clean up the more damage we uncover. We'll make it through, things will just be difficult for a while.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised but I am, that some of you did not know about Raven's battle with MS. Although neither of us usually mention our disabilities unless we must and if we feel comfortable. I am a Vietnam war veteran and was left disabled from that.

I admire Raven's strength and ability to overcome. She is one of a kind.

Blues, I am very happy to hear you and yours made it safely thru the storm. Sorry to hear about the damage.

I really had never mentioned my lupus before on this forum or anywhere else, so I totally understand you and Rave not really wanting to talk about it. I managed to keep working after my disability claim was denied, but was finally forced to leave my job in November 2010. My sister and brother-in-law graciously invited me to live with them after all my financial resources were used up. The hardest part for me, I think, was letting go of my pride to allow them take care of the household expenses since I no longer had an income. Thankfully, I am now drawing regular Social Security (early at age 62), so that helps.

Kiko, I totally agree. When I first left my job due to lupus, I was soooooo despondent. I had always taken care of myself and never been dependent on anyone, at least not for my financial support. But within a few months of living with my sister and her husband, I started to relax, became happier, and eventually my health started improving. I was so skinny from being ill, but I’ve now gained 30 pounds in the last 2 years and will soon have to start watching my weight if I’m not careful!

Well, I have a house (actually the bank owns it but we call it ours ) and it is pretty cosy as well as close to you.
You know you are more than welcome to stay for as long as you want...

...don' t think for a minute that it is a nice gesture, I have an ultimate goal, I know you are an awesome chef and I would love to try all of your recipies!!

I agree with Rave – If I could like this post more than once, I would!

1st Officer, thank you so much for what you wrote about veterans. I feel the same way, and not just because I served in the Army. Vietnam vets were treated horribly by the American public and just as bad, if not worse, by their own government. I never went to Vietnam and was only in a supporting role, but those years were angry ones for me. I still have the very vivid memory of being spat upon one time when I was traveling (in uniform) to go visit my parents. It took me a long time to get over that. And of course, those troops returning from Vietnam were treated much worse than that. So anyway, thank you for those very kind words. :)

Thank you for your contribution during those times. We were treated badly when we returned to the states, and everyone I was with were going to live their lives as disabled people. And I guess angry years is a good way to put it. The fortunate thing is that we learned from that time and we are now better people.

Konstantine - you CAN'T think like that. What you think becomes what will be. You still have purpose and meaning even if you don't see it right now. You still have people who read what you say and care that you are hurting - myself included. All of the doors seem closed to you, but just hang in there. One will open for you.

I could not agree with "Rave" any more then what she said . . . You should know you have friends here that really do care, especially "Me" SIR . . . Now Come on and either Get Your Head into the Game or I am going to ask "Frani" to go over to your house to hit you upside the head to snap you out of this ;) . . . More important, if there is anything you need that I (and I am sure some others) can help you with - You need to let "Me" ("Us") know . . . (Remember you got "My" personal email and info - send me an email anytime) . . . :D

HEY - I ("We") want "Our" jovial sarcastic humorous fun loving inventive "Kon" Back ! ! !

Bad mood that's it..
VERY bad mood.

Oh well who cares i will let it go how it goes if i'll go homeless so be it.

WHAT ? ? ? I told Ya' all you have to do is get here - No Homelessness for YOU . . . .:D

Well - I finally got back to Florida tonight . . .

AND - First Let me just say, I'll take a Hurricane in Florida over any anywhere else . . .

SO NOW to Update everyone . . .

Long story short - although I have NOTHING TO REALLY COMPLAIN ABOUT, especially given what everyone else was/is going through . . . It was quite hectic trying to get back to Philadelphia from NYC . . . Had to go the longest possible way around, but after taking 3 hours for a normally 1 1/2 hour trip - I got to New Hope 1st . . .

Only to find out that one of "My" friends' (where I stay) trees fell across the roadway and on top of her neighbors house knocking down 2 telephone polls and the electrical wires . . . Both Companies are now fighting who needs to do what first before they will do anything - leaving a whole 4 block area 30-40 families without Power/Lights/Heat for at least the next 2-3 weeks . . . NOT GOOD :(

Also another "friend" who lives up river from New Hope in an even more secluded area in PA is "Trapped" in his house - he is surrounded by water, a couple of bridges are out, and with fallen tress on road that is only 2 lanes (Upper Black Eddy - Route #32) . . . The last time this happened it took over 6 months to get the road fixed in one direction . . . NOT GOOD :(

Now to top it all off - I was leaving there to get to Philadelphia to turn in the rental car and get to the airport in time (had 3 hours) - I decided to pass a truck before we got onto a 2 lane rural route out of town (For those that now the area they'll understand being behind any Trucks on Route 29 from Lambetville to 95 ) . . . However, low and behold after I accelerated to go by the truck and get behind the driver ahead of "Me" the local Police decided to follow me . . . after following me for a mile doing 5 miles under the speed limit and behind another car - he pull "Me" over for speeding . . . This police officer actually gave me a ticket doing 73 in a 40 mile hour area (Over $200 Fine - that I cannot afford) . . .

Finally got to Philadelphia, turned in the rental (No Charge for extra day :) ) , got to the airport in time and after a very enjoyable flight . . . Everyone on the plane was great - 4 couples who were in separate seats in 3 different rows - "We" all agreed to change our seats so they could sit together - I even to care of an 11 yr old "French" boy whose father and brother were stuck in the back of the plane with another man from Belgium (Thankfully they both spoke French) . . . I arrived back in Florida ! ! ! :D

SEE - Even the worst situations can be somewhat positive . . . :D

Now - If I can only get the "Speeding" ticket dismissed and/or expunged . . . ;)

OKAY - Got to recoup some and go to bed - I'm going to leave catching-up with all the other post til tomorrow . . . :)

He wasn't a baby, but that's how I recently got hurt: freight-trained by a 1000+-pound horse. I'm getting better each day, but it'll be a long time till I'm back to normal. It's not just the injury. My right elbow is very stiff and can't straighten out completely because of staying bent so long in the sling. I have exercises to do each day to limber up and strengthen, but they are limited till the break heals more. I've been going to a physical therapist twice a week.

I really miss not being able to even go groom Penny without lots of help and not much input from me. I tried using a shedding blade and brush last week to get a few spots of mud off her, but it wasn't the usual thorough grooming job I like to do. No way can I clean out her feet. I am not even allowed to drive my car yet! I'm such an independent person that having to be dependent for help for the littlest things irks me. However, that makes me more motivated to do things for myself, and I'm doing more and more. The other day I removed the cap from a fresh bottle of milk. I could unscrew the cap after someone broke the seal but not open it when I had to break the seal, and now I can. This is with my right hand, so it's getting stronger. I'm trying very carefully to balance doing more as I'm able with not doing harm to myself by getting too ambitious.

What's most aggravating is that I can't sleep through the night. I wake up uncomfortable. I have to sleep semi-reclining, and I'm using pillows to prop myself up. The pillows slide out of position, I slide down into a slump, and I'm sleeping with my body in what feels like a pretzel shape. When it gets too bad, I wake up and take more pain meds and change to a fresh ice pack on my shoulder. Then I can't get back to sleep again for a while.

But my legs are fine, and Pat and I have been walking every day. With the recent bad weather, we have stayed in, and I'm getting a little stir-crazy. I think being an active person will help me heal faster, but it makes inactivity all that much harder. I get very restless and want to get out there and lead a normal life again. I'm impatient to get well, and the upside is that'll make me get well faster, I think.

Anyway, that's my current status: doing well and suffering mainly from impatience.

Were you referring to Cowboy Magic? I think that's pretty safe. I've heard people use it on their hair with good results, too. I'd never use WD-40 on my horse!

Hang in there Sandy, your getting there, just keep focusing on what you are able to do now that you couldn't do.

Oh and hi! I'm new here finally to the point I can post in most of the forums now. My name is Jay, but its Spoon to just about everyone. I'm an electrical engineer in the fibre optics business.

Anyway back to work I'm sure that I'm late for some random meeting.

Oh Raynes what I wouldn't give for some of that homemade bread,YUM! We have one of those bread machines but it doesn't come close to the bread my Mother use to make but it's still better than store bought. Irish Soda Bread is our fave out of the machine and if I weren't so lazy this morning I would go fire that thing up. I guess I will just have to live vicariously through you this morning. Saw the Power Company Trucks on the way to taking my Daughter to school this morning so with a little luck we will have power today and I can shut off the over worked generator until the next storm. Living up here in the mountains if you don't have a good generator you would freeze your tush off, we loose power if they even talk about a storm... Good Morning all and thanks for making the High Octane Coffee Raynes...

Morning Marlou. Goes great with coffee, and 555. Come to think about it I don't know of anything homemade bread doesn't go with

There's nothing like homemade bread, it's better than cake. When I was a kid and the family got together, everyone gathered in the kitchen to have coffee and my grandma's homemade bread. So it not only tastes wonderful, it brings back good memories.

Good morning Volties!

- and -

Welcome Spoon!!

Sorry you still don't have power Officer. You've got me thinking that I should probably get a generator too. I know how flaky the power is here. It takes a ridiculously long time for us to get any kind of service here. When we get a snow storm, we can be trapped in our homes for a week before a farmer finally gets fed up and plows the road out. The county just never seems to have time to get to us.

Uncle - I'm so glad that you made it home, but sorry about the ticket. Sounds like you had quite an adventure there.

Thanks for the super-charged coffee and the homemade bread!!
