Here's a good-morning video. This one's dedicated to Lizzie, who may want to try something like this with Wiseguy (ha ha!). Not me. I don't drive a horse much less ride a unicycle. But I have done this kind of formation riding, and it looks a lot easier than it is. First, just going around a ring abreast is hard, because you have to keep the horses even, not letting one get ahead or behind. To do this, when you come to corners, the horse on the outside has to take longer strides, and the inside one has to collect his strides. Then, if you are across the ring from the horse you have to meet up with, you have to keep track of where that horse is. When you weave through a line going the other way, it looks like you'll collide, but you won't, you have to keep moving when every instinct says to stop, to not run into the side of the horse in front of you. Anyway, I hope even the non-horsey people can enjoy these cute ponies and their expert drivers. www.reiterflirt.eu - Die Partnerbörse für Reiter präsentiert: Die roten Teufel - YouTube

She look too comfortable. Great job with the eye protection!!!!! Your little ridding buddy!!!!

Before I introduced Whisper to riding, I checked with my vet. She told me to make sure she wears her doggles, and have fun! She's a great rider, doesn't mind if I get lost and having her dinner in a truck stop parking lot! We are planning a trip this year to the southwest (I hope)! I just need to stop buying all the vaping stuff and save my money!

I love watching these videos SandySu! You are my main source with the equine education. This may be a stupid question, but what is the difference between a pony and a miniature horse? Well, I know that Lizzy's Wiseguy is very tiny even for a mini, but is there a difference other than the size?

Good Morning Volties

First of all - There is coffee on for any who would like some. It's called Cinnamon Sugar Cookie, and it's not half bad. It's kind of a coffee and treat all in one.

Thanks to all of you for the best wishes for Blues and for me. Don't worry about me. I'm fine, and tough as nails. Blue's surgery won't be until tomorrow. Today he goes through all of the pre-surgery tests and meds. It's killin' me that I can't be with him through all of this, but he wouldn't let me come to PA. His business partner and lifelong friend with be checking in on him every afternoon after the surgery, and will be giving me updates and details. I probably won't hear from her until tomorrow after the surgery.

JoAnn, so much going on here tonight, I almost forgot to tell you......good news from your doctor! That's great, I'm so happy for you.

When I first started vaping back in 2009, I didn't dare tell my doctor what I was doing. I would've gotten "the hairy eyeball" for sure. No one knew what vaping was back then. Congratulations JoAnn!

LOL I can just picture that. The Basset's always looks sad......

Lexi has cornered the market on looking sad and pathetic. She only has three looks: sad, sadder, and saddest.

Joanne-

The Miniature Horse is supposed to be elegant like a big horse with very nice head and legs. If you look at a photo of some of the minis you would not know they were small horses without a reference like someone standing next to the little guys. You would think they were large horses.

Pony and miniature are technically about height. A pony is under 14.2 hands or 64 inches at the withers and miniature would be 38 inches or 34 inches at the withers. The 34" limit is for the American Miniature Horse Association. The Miniature Horse is actually now a breed although it started out as being mostly about height - a type. A Shetland Pony could be registered as a Shetland Pony, a Miniature Horse and also registered with the other small equine registry for 38" and under called the AMHR. That would be a triple registered horse.

Bear in mind how small that is - My Miniature Horse is 31 1/2 inches tall and weighs about 200 pounds. I have to get down on my knees to look him in the eye.

Some say that the difference between a pony and a Miniature horse is one is big enough that it can be ridden and the other is too small to ride:)

Generally, and there are exceptions, Miniature Horses are bred to be sweet and reasonably docile. If not spoiled they are indeed very sweet little critters. American Shetlands are generally larger than Miniatures and can be a lot more high spirited. Miniature horses are almost never ridden unless the child is very, very small. Shetlands are often considered an appropriate size for children to ride.

SandySu- I couldn't unicycle for a million dollars. All I can say is those kids and there little horseys are incredible. They must have a super amount of confidence and those little animals must be very well trained for them to unicycle and drive. I have enough trouble with a two wheeled cart keeping the reins adjusted and such.

Wow! So Wiseguy is considered to be tiny even for a mini? Is he considered to be a rare for being so small? Sorry if my questions sound stupid, but I'm truly fasinated about these little guys.

Good night, Deb. Get some sleep. I clean houses so I know what you go through on your job as a maid:) I am always proud of the homes looking shiny, my excellent work ethic of showing up on time, with the right equipment and attitude. Then, I keep my eyes on the prize when I get discouraged: Getting paid.

Depending on who you talk to, a miniature horse is a pony. Officially, a pony is an equine who measures 14.2 hands or less, and a horse is taller than 14.2 hands. So then Wiseguy is a pony. But the miniature horse people say they are horses, not ponies, because ideally, their build looks like a horse, just in miniature. Ponies are more roly-poly looking, though there are large ponies that look just like horses, and some miniature horses look like ponies. The distinction is also blurred when you have a horse breed like Arabians, which are on the small range, and some might be 14.1 hands, officially a pony, but Arabians are considered horses, not ponies, as a breed. BTW, a hand = 4 inches, and after the point is expressed in inches. So a 14.3 hand horse is a little under 5 feet high at the withers. The withers is that spot where the horse's back and neck come together, the top of the shoulders. The horse's height is measured from that spot. So, you see, the distinction between horses and ponies is sort of blurred. Not an easy answer.

Well, another term I love is VSE [very small equine]. As the VSE goes, Wiseguy is sort of in the middle, I think. There are some very tiny horses out there like 27" and such. If you go too much smaller then Wiseguy, they can't pull a cart easily. When I got Wiseguy, my thought was that we could drive around the neighborhood and have a good time together. We have managed to do that. With me being an inexperienced driver, we have had a few rough patches but I have come up with solutions to work through them.

Wiseguy actually can pull up to 3 times his body weight but that large weight could only be pulled on flat, smooth ground. However he has no problem pulling just me and a cart almost anywhere. The cart is about 100 pounds and I am 165 so that is 265 pounds. He has pulled Hubby and me and that would be closer to 530 pounds but we stuck to excellent roads and didn't go for too long.

The little guy and I were built up to about 2 hours and 6 or so miles but we slacked off for the winter and I might have to build him up again in the spring! Fankly, the little guy only looked tired once and that was the trip from hell. I got onto a pretty sandy road and then I was trying to get us home on another road and at the end of that road was a deep, deep sand puddle and we were both tired by the time we hit solid road base and headed towards home.

Thanks for explaining hand measurement. I always wondered what that would be as related to inches.

Now I don't have to ask another stupid question!

Wiseguy may lose less condition over winter than you think. Horses generally stay fit longer than humans do when they are not working physically, so with the walks you take, he may be ready to pull the cart in the spring. Still, it's good to go slow at first to get him in shape rather than risk some sort of strain. Why can't you drive in winter? Too cold? Too much snow? If you get a lot of snow there, what about getting a small sleigh? I think that would be a lot of fun.

Hey gang, I just sent a message to Imagine and mentioned NOT to boil your Nana, whoops I mean Nano's:facepalm:

I threw in my Nano when boiling some cartos to clean and it melted the tip  Now I am tipless? Anyway, most of the Nano is plastic. It still works, but I need to vape it without the tip. I tried the rubber replacement tips, but they pop off, too small. Just a warning.

Lexi is an English Mastiff. Awsum's pooch is a South African Boer Bel. I think they are both in the mastiff family, but Awsum can prolly clear than up. Dunno for sure, and I'm too lazy to look it up.

I'd pay money ( well .... Monopoly money ) to watch Wiseguy pull a sled. But, I have an evil side.
