Kicco stay as warm as you can. Can't even begin to fathom -1 degrees. Its been raining here for a solid wk and expected to rain all next wk. If we had temps like that here we'd be in the Ice Age again.
For the first time in my life I have some sort of a glimpse what Noah went through on that ark.

Oh it's not the end of the world - but I can see it from here! Bundle up til you can't hardly move & waddle!
Days of rain or just cold and cloudy is a wet blanket on the spirit. Almost every time I quit smoking - January was usually the month I started again : SAD? (seasonal affect disorder. aka: lack of sun)

JoAnn : beautiful pic - I totally understand your reasoning (disagree tho).

Isn't it weird how so often we take better care of our animals than we do ourselves? I'm the same way. My animals have all their shots, but I'm still waffling about getting a shingles shot, though I had chicken pox as a kid, so I really should. My excuse is that I've had plenty of medical stuff going on lately. I don't need to add to it right now. But I know that's just an excuse, not a real reason.

Tell me about it. I have spent thousands of dollars on my pets. When I was laid off in 2003, I kept up with my 3 dogs health care. I didn't continue the expensive cobra for me, but I made sure they were taken care of.

I had an epileptic dog that I would spend over $200 a month on her meds to try to keep her comfortable. Whisper was bit by a wolf spider and had to have some surgery to remove some of the necrosis. A big line of skin died from her front leg all the way to her rear end on her left side. I'd only had her for 3 months when that all happened.

My pets are my family and treated as such!

You know, even people w/o SAD seem to get depressed if they don't get enough sunlight. We have a lot of cloudy days here, and I know it can get me down. For a while, I used one of those special lightbulbs in my desk lamp, but I don't think it did any good. I think that's why I'd rather see snow on the ground. It reflects what light there is, makes the world look brighter and more interesting. I know it's an inconvenience, but up here, we get enough snow that everyone's ready for it, and we do pretty well unless there's a huge snowstorm, and even then, once it's over, everyone's back to normal.

<--- is having browser issues.. had to uninstall both waterfox and firefox..then reinstall--

and still I'm not right with the forums. FINDING the area to post this has been a party *smell the sarcasm*

and my tools /options panel is all wacko

too.. only displays the bottom part.. top part is buried off screen on top and I cannot get ahold of it to slide it down unless I adjust my screen rez to something gawd awful weird.

I'll be back and posting when I get this nonsense squared away

It's only displaying outline format.. grumble...

Don't even talk about pc issues. I got attacked Monday by the Win 7 security rootkit virus. Shut my firewall down and prevented me from getting on the internet. It was my own fault for allowing it in. I got careless when the warning came up and clicked "ok" before reading it thoroughly. Took quite a while to find all of the hidden components with it. Thank GOD I had another computer to get the solutions. Also because of our previous conversations I did a total backup before this attack. This chat thread was a blessing in disguise for me THAT day! Had to get a Spotbot download from the desktop then reboot the infected pc in "safe mode", backdoor approach... then install to disable it. That didn't get rid of it, only disable it. Then had to reboot in standard mode, use malwarebytes program to get rid of it. My firewall was working but still hidden. I had to run two separate deep scans. Then when all was said and done, did a system restore to a date before the attack. Boy! I was sweating bullets!! It is now completely clean!!!

I'm posting all of these details as a warning to all of you with Windows pc's. It doesn't matter what version of Windows you have. Take care of this... be very cautious about what devil you allow in. On the surface it looks harmless but boy what a pain. It changes registry keys and will steal all of your confidential info... passwords, bank account info, etc.

Sandy... I'm sure you are breathing a sigh of relief that you have a Mac! You are safe from this mess!! This was another cause of my raised blood pressure!

Here's my favorite bird photo. It's a goldfinch, taken at Sapsucker Woods, which is owned by Cornell Univ. I went there one day, camera in hand, prepared to get all sorts of bird photos, but I was unsuccessful, except for some Canada geese, till I returned to the visitor center, where right outside a picture window, they had a little fenced-off area with bird feeders. I went outside and snapped this through a crack in the fence.

I'm glad I have a Mac, but the other day, I did encounter a virus. I didn't click on it, so everything was OK, but I couldn't quit Safari (my Web browser) unless I used Force Quit. I had to call my brother and have him talk me through it, but now I know one more thing about my computer (how to Force Quit a program). I would have gone berserk if I had your problem. No wonder your blood pressure rose. I remember when I first got the computer, and I got frustrated a lot more then, sometimes it would reduce me to tears. Not kidding! I bet getting a virus would do that again, though it's been years since my computer made me cry. However, I'm nothing if not persistent, and I learned how to do most stuff I ordinarily do. Viruses, however, are not in my category as "ordinary." Yes, I'm lucky I have a Mac. Be careful what you click on, no matter what kind of computer it is.

My ugly mug is on my profile page.

I had to go look. lol

JoAnn, you're a pretty woman. Your good nature I've seen expressed on this forum is also expressed in that smile.

I'm starting to get a complex for not doing anything at all with my profile or not even coming up with an avatar. Guess I need to spend some time trying to figure out how to do all that stuff.

Rabbit... can you crop the picture of Alice for Deb? Making Alice larger, cutting out the bottles? She would be so happy if you could. You're good with this kind of thing.

Oh that's horrible what Whisper went through! I'm the same way with Spanky. I believe we are that way about our pets because we made the decision to have them with us and they can't help themselves. They depend on us for everything. I would take my last to take care of him when he gets sick. In fact, his diet is probably healthier than mine. I am obsessed with reading the ingredients on all the food labels and treats that he gets. As for me... I love some junk food occasionally. Would I give him some.... oh no way!

Nice job on the collage, Rabbit! You should look into using Photo Bucket, it's free!

I clicked like for your solution, not because you got nailed. I had one that Webroot didn't even see as there when I booted into safe mode, loaded what Webroot needed to run with and ran Webroot. I ended up formatting the drive and starting from scratch. Needless to say that was the end of Webroot for me.

I am very careful and never pay bills, do banking or anything else that leads directly to my bank accounts. I do shop online with credit cards of course, but I also have identity protection, and that does work. Viruses, spybots, rootkits and all the other stuff are far too prevalent to take any chances. I used to run backups onto DLT tape, but gave that up when the tape drive died. Now I keep multiple copies of everything on separate drives since drives are so inexpensive. I hate to do reinstalls, but when all else fails that always works.

One thing that "hit" me that I had no control over was having an email address hijacked and spoofed. Even Mac/Apple can't stop that. It was a "junk" address that I used for advertising emails only, so it wasn't a big deal, but still a pain in the neck.

Agreed. I've had Whisper on all sorts of foods. She has allergies. I finally found a vegetarian food that has improved her coat and skin. I was having to give her Claritin for her allergies otherwise she'd scratch and scratch until she pulled her fur off.

She loves apples, bananas, carrots and a myriad of other veggies. We make a pretty good pair!
