Nice job on the collage, Rabbit! You should look into using Photo Bucket, it's free!
Don't even talk about pc issues. I got attacked Monday by the Win 7 security rootkit virus. Shut my firewall down and prevented me from getting on the internet. It was my own fault for allowing it in. I got careless when the warning came up and clicked "ok" before reading it thoroughly. Took quite a while to find all of the hidden components with it. Thank GOD I had another computer to get the solutions. Also because of our previous conversations I did a total backup before this attack. This chat thread was a blessing in disguise for me THAT day! Had to get a Spotbot download from the desktop then reboot the infected pc in "safe mode", backdoor approach... then install to disable it. That didn't get rid of it, only disable it. Then had to reboot in standard mode, use malwarebytes program to get rid of it. My firewall was working but still hidden. I had to run two separate deep scans. Then when all was said and done, did a system restore to a date before the attack. Boy! I was sweating bullets!! It is now completely clean!!!
I'm posting all of these details as a warning to all of you with Windows pc's. It doesn't matter what version of Windows you have. Take care of this... be very cautious about what devil you allow in. On the surface it looks harmless but boy what a pain. It changes registry keys and will steal all of your confidential info... passwords, bank account info, etc.
Sandy... I'm sure you are breathing a sigh of relief that you have a Mac! You are safe from this mess!! This was another cause of my raised blood pressure!
I clicked like for your solution, not because you got nailed. I had one that Webroot didn't even see as there when I booted into safe mode, loaded what Webroot needed to run with and ran Webroot. I ended up formatting the drive and starting from scratch. Needless to say that was the end of Webroot for me.
I am very careful and never pay bills, do banking or anything else that leads directly to my bank accounts. I do shop online with credit cards of course, but I also have identity protection, and that does work. Viruses, spybots, rootkits and all the other stuff are far too prevalent to take any chances. I used to run backups onto DLT tape, but gave that up when the tape drive died. Now I keep multiple copies of everything on separate drives since drives are so inexpensive. I hate to do reinstalls, but when all else fails that always works.
One thing that "hit" me that I had no control over was having an email address hijacked and spoofed. Even Mac/Apple can't stop that. It was a "junk" address that I used for advertising emails only, so it wasn't a big deal, but still a pain in the neck.
