I definitely suggest the book over the movie then. A Rose for Emily and the others that I've read were great, but this one was narrated by so many people you have to continue reading.

I read the book description and I also read the description for "The Sound and the Fury". I remember dimly, seeing the movie way back when with Yul Brenner... don't remember details of the story but I do remember that I enjoyed it.

Now I'll have to order both of these books. I've read some of his short stories a while back and they were really good.

I had a whole post written out, dang it, it disappeared when clicked to post!

I'm so happy to see everyone checking in, so much fun catching up today! It was awesome! ;)

It will be a quiet day around here, we decided to just kick back and relax. Simple dinner, venison burgers, grilled romaine, grilled veggies. Easy and not a bunch of clean up too! Maybe a few beers later on.

I can deal with the fireworks for a few hours, it's just when it lasts all night that ticks me off. That, and when they run out of fireworks and start shooting off guns. Now THAT is scary! It's the price we pay for living out in the 'quiet' country!

I'm used to guns in this neighborhood. What freaks me out is when you just know that their bottle rockets have landed on your roof!

All caught up. Happy 4th, everyone. Today we did hike up Watkins Glen. I took lots of pictures. The nice thing about the glen is it's cool and wet when it's hot out, so it's a wonderful place to get some exercise when it's so hot that the only other option is swimming. The water flows through the glen in a series of waterfalls, and the swirling water has carved interesting shapes out of the rock. When I first saw this magic place when I was a kid, I was totally awestruck, and to this day, after visiting it many times, I'm still blown away by the beauty. Because the gorge is deep and shadowy and when sunlight does reach down it's bright, it's hard to take good photos with the very sharp contrast of light and dark, but some came out OK. Here are some scenes from this morning's hike up the glen.

My brother, his wife, and my 2 young nephews hiked with Bill & me, and the kids love Watkins Glen as much as I always have. I'm glad I can share this experience with them and that they appreciate it as I do.

Try to fit some enjoyment into that busy schedule today Tail! :)

We are having steamed crabs later this evening... The first time for the season. :p

I would halt my being a vegetarian for some good Maryland crab! I'm finished for the day. I got the walls painted, but didn't do the ceiling. That will be for tomorrow as well as painting the baseboards.

Here is my 4th of July present to you all

I found a very neat site to check out a lot of vendors, recipes, mods, coupon codes and tons of information: The Vape Book

Check it out for hours of reading fun.

Thank you Rabbit! Once I get all of my renovations done and my life back together, I'm going to start DIY'ing again.

I don't know if you have read As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner, but James Franco is directing a movie based upon it. It should be quite interesting because the book was odd.

I should add, if you haven't read it and you watch the trailer to the movie, you'll swear there's a rape scene but it's not. You would have to get the whole story really.

I just watched the trailer and it looks really good. It will be released in Europe later this year but no mention of a date for the US... :?:

Do you notice that the landlords painted the sidewalk? I chose green for the bench and chair, so they would blend in. So they repainted the sidewalk red which contrasts with the bench and chair. He got a bit of red on the bench, and I got paint remover residue on it too, so I am going to have to repaint that.

Red sidewalk?? That is a part of their cultural heritage, I guess.

Sounds like something my neighbors would do! They put artificial grass on their front porch!?! Looks very tacky! Of course, they still have their decorations out for every holiday you can think of! I'm disgusted by them, as they've enclosed their porch and put a flag on the side to cover one section of the bottom, instead of finishing off the skirting. They put 1/3 of the flag on the front side and the rest of the flag is facing us!

Good morning volties and a happy 4th of July! I hope the Americans on this thread have their flags out waving on this glorious day!

This is day one of the full on renovation office project. I have a couple of baseboards to remove, then I have to prep for painting. I finally made the decision to throw away the chair that was in here since my dog house guests a few months ago decided to use it as a toilet. I didn't want to buy furniture, but this is giving me the opportunity to do so. The dump pile is growing and I'll have to rent a little uhaul to get it all out of here!

I hope everyone has a great day. I have pandora on, listening to jazz while I work. I'll be on later. Enjoy your BBQ's or whatever you're doing today!

Our flag staff is broken, unfortunately. Hubby hasn't taken the time to fix it in the many years since it broke. Hope you had a good time with your project, Tail! Pandora can be nice to listen to! I usually use iHeartRadio on my cell phone or XBOX 360. Have a great night!

"The Host" was a great book but I haven't seen the movie. I read the "Twilight" series as well. The movies were just ok. Sometimes I'm disappointed in how a book is interpreted for film. If possible, I would rather see the film before reading the book. If I enjoyed the film then I know I will love the book.
Since you've read the book, you might be disappointed with the movie. I hadn't read the book in over a year and forgot bits and pieces of it, myself. I read the "Twilight" series just because I was interested in what they hype was all about. I actually thought they were good. I own all the movies, but haven't watched either of the "Breaking Dawn" ones. The movies did disappoint me, though. I figured out not to read the books before movies, back when I was really big into Stephen King! The movie "IT" was really disappointing to me after reading the book. Luckily, I saw "The Stand" before I read the book!

I wouldn't be surprised if they whipped out the guns after they ran out of fireworks, here, and we live in the city! Hope you have a great night! I have a feeling it's going to be a long one for me! Just hope nothing burns down, here!

I agree, Charlz!

Recently we were discussing the movie, World War Z. Did you know it was a graphic novel? World War Z - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I told Bill about the movie, and he told me this today.

PS: An interesting review of the book vs. the movie. Forget WWZ Movie, Read the Book by Kelley B. Vlahos -- Antiwar.com

Thanks for the links! My brother read the book and let someone borrow it before I had a chance to read it. He hasn't gotten it back, yet, and I doubt he will. I don't even think he works with the person, anymore! Anyway, I will have to show him the links.

Mind if my hubby has a few? He misses Baltimore and the seafood, a lot! Thing is, I think he's developed an allergy to shellfish. He'll still take a bite of seafood, here and there, if I am eating shrimp.

Well, I hope everyone has a safe and happy night! Fireworks should be starting soon, but I won't be able to watch them! Hubby will be leaving for work shortly before they start. I won't go outside alone, especially after dark! Don't trust myself or others!

I'm drinking a Mike's Lite Hard Lemonade. Haven't looked up the sugars in it, though. So far, I'm doing fine. I know, bad girl! I shouldn't be drinking alcohol! I have been doing a lot of things that I shouldn't be doing this past week! I'd blame it on hubby, but he doesn't drink. I'll just blame the pizza and fast food on him! ;)

Take care and I'll see you all, later! :)

Tina, the My Little Ponies at the bottom of your messages remind me of a phenomenon I read about a while ago: bronies. Ever hear of them? If not, here's a site about a documentary on them with a trailer that explains who they are: ‘Bronies: The Extremely Unexpected Adult Fans of My Little Pony’ Trailer: This Is Not An April Fools Joke | /Film For some reason, when I first read about this in a magazine published by Cornell Univ. students featuring different articles on all sorts of stuff like this, the idea of bronies really intrigued me.. I wonder if anyone else is as fascinated by the concept as I am.

Thank you, SandySu for the link! I found the official site for the documentary through your link. I've been interested in checking that documentary out. It is quite fascinating. Older fans, such as myself are either Bronies or PegaSisters. Bronies are male fans and PegaSisters are female fans. Although some females just call themselves Bronies. I've seen a few videos on YouTube that different Bronies had put together about the fandom. My brother is 34 and got me into the TV series. He would watch it downstairs and kept making me look to see what was going on! I even have quite a collection of the ponies and trading cards, thanks to him! LOL! I'm still looking for the 11" plushy, from Walmart, with the cowboy hat (AppleJack) to complete my collection of what they call the mane six ponies (the ones that are pictured in my signature). The pink one is my favorite, even though she irritated me in the beginning! She is always happy go lucky! I think I need that influence in my life, though, as I'm usually negative! LOL! I tried making an avatar of the following pic, but you lose the ability to see the text when it's smaller.

20130525201130.jpg

Just noticed that it's kind of hard to even see at original size. At least to me with my contacts in. I do need new ones, someday.

Well, I am going to try and lay down. I have the radio on, hoping that will relax the dogs and make it so they don't hear the fireworks going off all throughout the neighborhood. Have a great night, everyone! :)

Wow, Tina! I actually got to meet a bronie (or pega sister, if you like that term better). I don't know why this idea has caught my fancy, but I like things like that, things that aren't mainstream. After I read that article where I heard about bronies, I went to YouTube to watch a My Little Pony episode. It didn't do much for me, which made the phenomenon even more puzzling to me. And I'm a horse lover, too! You'd think something about ponies might catch my fancy. I think it was just too cute for me to be able to sympathize with. It really does seem like something little girls would watch, which makes the adult interest even more interesting to me. I'm fascinated by things I can't understand -- I want to get to the bottom of it and understand them.

I read "The Host" a while back so I just may watch the movie when it's released on DVD. Like you, I remember the general theme of the story but not every detail so I just might like it. I was a big Stephen King fan, I read and enjoyed both "It" and "The Stand". His later works got too weird for me. I would start reading them but lost interest before finishing.

I enjoy steamed crabs once in a while but it's too much work to get at that little bit of meat. Hubby loves them and doesn't mind the work. I prefer crab cakes. Now that's good eating! :)

Unfortunately, that is not the Walmart one. It is cute, though. It's actually one that's been made by a fan. Thank you. It's very tempting to buy as it has the apples with it. Although, I'd rather save my money for vape supplies than pay $40 for a stuffed animal. The most I've paid for one of the Ponies is $20. They are normally $10 in the store. I have yet to see the actual Walmart AppleJack, but the others have ribbons of hair, so I'd imagine her hair would be just like theirs.

I think what attracts Bronies to it, is the messages the episodes give. Kind of like the moral of the story we had to figure out in English/Literature class. There are some Bronies that are attracted to it for disgusting reasons and I've run across a few on Twitter. I didn't want to mention that aspect of it, but it's true. Those are the kind to steer clear of, in my opinion. They just made a movie called, Equestria Girls, which makes the ponies more human. They are going to produce a line of dolls to compete with Barbie and all the others out there. I'm not quite into that. I poke fun at the Bronies who are, but would never say what I've said about them, here. I don't want to lose my angelic status! ;)

That's good, JoAnn! I'm definitely buying the DVD when it comes out. So true about King, too! Some of his latest work I've enjoyed, such as "The Cell," but others not so much. Like you, I'd start reading and then put the book down. A book has to catch my attention within the first chapter or I can't read it. I didn't really like the episode of X-Files that he wrote many years ago, either, and I was a fan of both.

I mentioned that you made crabs to my husband and he was drooling. I can understand if there's not much meat to them, though. I have never had them. Shrimp and fish are my only adventures into seafood that I've had. My husband loves it, though, but nothing around here compares to the stuff out East.

I saw this on Tumblr and couldn't resist sharing it. I remember a discussion we had about this, recently. Forgive me for not remembering who brought the subject up, but this really was a good one!

Well good morning! I am sure there is a good reason for all this Stephen King and My Little Pony drivel but I don't have the wherewithall to peruse in reverse to read it all. Leaving for Milwaukee today and so much to do....laundry, cleaning, vaccuming, packing, etc. As long as I have my vaping gear and some ready cash for pizza and Schlitz I'm good. I will check in after I get there and get the laptop connected. Have a great day kids!
