Thank you Voltville. I knew you had the power. It has rained and rained overnight. This is our first precipitation in weeks. I am thrilled.

Poor Nevada is standing in the rain. It is too dark for me to see him but I will get him some hay at first light.

35 degrees out so hopefully it will stay above freezing.

A perfect day to bake bread and make hamburger buns.

Nevada is turning into a sweetie who wants to be petted. So gratifying.

Now it is snowing although it is claiming that it is 34 degrees on the back porch. I'll be making sure my wet little horses are getting their hay spread out throughout the day.

The bread is on the first rise.

Today is the big seed ordering day. I hope we thought of everything:)

I have seen it snow -- and stick to the ground -- when it's just a tad above freezing like that. I guess you're glad of the moisture. Be glad that you don't have to go anywhere today in case the roads get bad.

Ordering seeds should be fun. Do you get basically the same stuff every year? If so, why not make a list and keep it in your computer. When you see you forgot something, add it to the list. Pretty soon, you'll have a complete list, and when it comes time to order seeds, then you can just consult the list to be sure you got everything.

When I used to go horse camping with my friend Linda, I did this, and after a few times of forgetting something and taking too much of something else, I had a pretty good list and was well-equipped.

We have certain items we grow every year and they are probably what make the garden worth doing.

Lily Crenshaw melons
New Queen watermelons
Desert King Watermelons

Acorn squash
Waltham Butternut squash

We change up on some of the varieties that didn't work last year.

We will have snap peas, garden peas and pea pods again this year.

We love our fillet beans and we grow wax beans and green beans and Italian beans almost every year.

We are trying a new winter squash called Blue Banana.

I am finally having success with carrots so I got two kinds for this year.

Onions, garlic and potatoes. I am getting Russian banana potatoes since mine mysteriously died out last year. They are nice since you get them and then we were able to replant for four years running. Can't beat that.

The melons and the squash basically pay for the garden since they are so expensive to purchase.

We have a piece of cardboard and then, in theory, we can look at what we planted, think about what grew well and then decide to reorder.

Guinea pigs are so cute. I've had a couple of them. You must show us your drawing:) SandySu.

The snow has melted off but the total precipitation looks significant. I'm thinking we might even have an inch out of this one storm, looking at the buckets and the food dishes... Counting last night and today. That would be awesome. I'm hoping for more!!! The mountains are supposed to get quite a bit of snow in the higher elevations. Badly needed. We'll have some sort of totals for the storm soon, I should think.

I may have another animal portrait to do: a Guinea pig! Someone contacted me today about it, though I haven't gotten any photos yet. That ought to be interesting. I never drew a Guinea pig before. But I figure I can do it. After all, I did a portrait of someone's rat.

I'm sure you'll do just fine. If you can draw horses you can draw anything. :)

We're supposed to have a mixed bag of rather funky weather this weekend with snow and ice, then rain, then snow and ice again. No doubt in my mind that Mother Nature is in charge and she's not in a good mood. But, I'm really glad that it worked out well for you, Lizzie and the other folks in moisture-deprived areas.

A guinea pig, huh? This should be cute! :)

Well Sandy, the snow was way too powdery for snowpeople and snowballs but me n' fiance had a powder fight!:p

Lizzie, The temp is supposed to be going up to the fifties but with it being a very damp cold it feels much cooler. I would gladly share our snow/ice with you. We got too much wet stuff.;)

I'm disappointed! I thought since you were so far south, the temperatures would be high enough to make wet snow, the kind that's good for snowmen and snowballs.

I really wanted to but every time I tried to pack a really good snowball, it just broke and stuck to my gloves.:glare:... Me and fiance made a snow angel and carved love notes in the snow though...

Oh, I so miss horse camping. That was the BEST. We'd go for a week, with a weekend at both ends. It was fantastic.

Everything is back to normal here, except for my one frozen weather incident: when I left work yesterday, unlocked my car door, and lifted the handle, the darn thing was frozen shut (yeah, go ahead and laugh; I moved back to FL in 2000, and had managed to forget this little phenomenon of winter); when my fingertips slipped, I busted off a finger nail so deep that it immediately started to bleed. I almost used up my entire vocab of cuss words. Dang thing still hurts and probably will for several more days.

I hate to LIKE this post and sorry you busted a nail but you wrote this so funny I couldn't help but chuckle.
