I think Lexi needs to babysit me for a while.

Seriously though, I have always had this contempt for authority figures that flaunt their power. For some reason it just sets me off. Am I the only one?

You're not the only one, but I think I've learned with age to choose my battles. I try not to engage in battles I can't win. And better than battling is to try to use diplomacy. I'd rather persuade someone I'm right through logic and reasonableness, always staying polite, than fight about it. Fighting often loses the point of the conflict when it gets going and just becomes a battle of wills. It becomes all about who will win and stops being about working together to make things better for everyone.

Some years ago, I experienced a great example of conflict resolution. Here's how it went. Near me is the Finger Lakes National Forest. Several different types of people use this land for various recreational pursuits, and their interests can conflict. I rode my horse on that land on the trails. Hikers used the same trails. Hikers complained about horse manure on the trails and that horses might intimidate hikers who are unfamiliar with them. They also complained that the horses' hooves made the trails more muddy. They wanted horses banned from the trails. Of course, riders were outraged that someone would complain about their presence, especially when a hiker at a meeting about trail use said that only hikers could really enjoy nature. What did they think the riders were out there doing? Then there were winter snowmobile users, who both riders and hikers disliked. The snowmobiles might scare the horses, and both groups thought they couldn't enjoy nature on a motorized vehicle. And on it went like that.

Finally, the people in charge of the national forest, who had called the meeting to decide trail use, called in people from Cornell Univ. who are trained in conflict resolution. I attended those meetings, and saw how heated the arguments were getting and how people were choosing sides. And it was amazing to see how, with a very systematic protocol, the conflict resolution people got us working together and coming up with solutions that would please everyone to some extent.

I think participating in that changed my way of thinking about how to deal with conflict. I saw that there's a better way than fighting to get your way. I wish everyone could participate in a conflict resolution session like we did. I think it would help the world, just like it helped the users of the trails in the Finger Lakes National Forest.

NO - You are not alone . . .

But the "Powers" that may be - are the ones in charge here - and not that I agree with them at all and what they do all the time - but the person in power (or should I say the one person) can and will "BAN" YOU . . . NO Matter whether they or YOU are right or wrong . . . They do not want to hear anything or will even listen to reason once their mind is set . . . SO Word to the Wise . . . Play it COOL - Lay Low - People hear and see YOU for who YOU ARE . . .

AND - Heck, I've even been gased, in jail, kept at bay by real POlICE/ARMY Officers during many a demonstrations throughout the 60/70's - I can put up with a little - BIG BROTHER - to be with the people I NEEED & WANT TO BE WITH . . .

BTW: Don't let that other person keep godding you into a discussion or reply - they don't mean anything to YOU . . . And if you want to let off some steam You know how to get in contact with "Me' - RIGHT . . .

OR - Besides getting Lexi to babysit YOU - DO I Need To Get "Our Own Little Rodent" To Get YOU Stuffed Away With His Nuts To Keep You Safe for A While . . .

You are right Uncle. Resistance is futile. Man I would have liked to have been in some of those demonstrations with you. I bet that was great. What a time. Where are the demonstrators these days - I wonder about that.

I will be a good dog and let the king rule his kingdom. You can even put me away with the rodent, but I don't want to be near his nuts!

NOT Really Fun - although some of us did have a good time too . . . But the demonstrations of that period in time was quite HEAVY ! ! ! It was at times another "WAR" (for many diffewrent reason) that was being held on our homeland for the rights of many here . . .

As for the demonstartors of Today - The're still around and here - remember the Occupiers in Major Cities - the "Tea Party" (Yuk - but they are and did demonstrate) - The Public of Michigan against their Governor . . .

And lets not forget the people of Europe - Greece - France - London - The Eyptian Revolution aka "Egypt Spring" and now the people of Syria . . .

SO - When there is a rightful cause to fight there will be people to demonstrate . . .

However, as someone who has been a Mediator and try to help settle many a dispute between people - I would rather go in that direction first . . . :D

Oh and BTW: Just so YOU know - "Rolygate" is the King here at ECF, everyone else is either his helpers and/or eyes & ears . . . Just thought I would put it into perspective . . . :D

AND Yes - if you get carried away again - YOU WILL BE WITH THE NUTS . . .
(That's Acorns, Walnuts, Pecans, Cashews, Peanuts too . . . :D)

Thanks for the response Uncle. I guess the minions of Rolygate are the ones who crop up from time to time. I'm not saying they have an easy job - they don't. But I do tend to cut loose once in a while.

The uprisings in other countries are interesting, and I wonder where it will all lead. I just feel like we have lost some of the perspective here. I remember when Iraq first started, and you would hear about all of those killed each day. Their names would appear on the news. Now, nothing.

I really am glad I found ECF, and especially you guys to hang out with. You seem to understand me when others don't.

Thank you!

Sheesh. I go work 12 hour shifts for a week and I check in to see my friends branded as criminals and BB running amok and Lexi being shuffled back and forth between corners to babysit and the rodent probably wondering why the nut house is overflowing...

Can we add the word "Sanctuary" to the forum title after "Smokeless Image?"

Hugs are free. /hugs all SI groupies

Uncle, watch it. While you were demonstrating, some of us were being blown up and killed. I'm just sayin'...

EDIT: Sorry, soft spot.

Glad to see Americans supporting the troops today, especially when they get back. Wasn't like that back then. Like the whole war was our idea. I've gotten over it for the most part but I still miss a lot of my buddies and my brother.
