I rode Penny this evening. One of the barn owner's daughters, Shelly, rode with me. I still have to get Heather out on the trail. We haven't had rain in a while, and the ground is very dry and hard. The creek we cross to get to the trails, which also runs through the horses' big pasture, is nearly all dry. There's one spot that's very deep when there's a lot of water in the creek, and that still has water if the horses are out in the big field, and also they can go back up to the barn and drink at a tub there. Because of the hard ground, Penny has been a bit lamer than normal. It took me a while to figure out that it was the hard ground, since she's not totally sound anyway, but recently I tried her horse boots on her, and they seem to make her sound! Maybe not for long, hard work at fast gaits, but for a walking trail ride. Here's a site with the boots, in case anyone's curious. Equine Fusion
It wasn't so hot today, in the mid-80s during the afternoon and cooling down now that it's dark. I think rain is coming, which might provide some relief. The flies were pretty bad this evening when I rode. Of course, Penny gets a coat of fly spray for horses from head to tail, but I don't spray myself, and I was bitten by little flies that look a lot like house flies but about half the size, and boy! Do they bite! One got me right through my T-shirt. I've noticed over the years that the day before it rains, or maybe 2 days, the flies get really bad.
I tried to phone my friend in Reston, VA, to see if she's OK, but I got a busy signal for a while, then their voice mail. I left a message, but they haven't called back. I bet everyone who knows them is calling to see if they're OK.

Today is day 7 or is it 8 without analogs ... i guess it doesn't matter. I'm in heaven. Walked nine holes this morning. Vaped a bit here and there while playing. It took the place of my old stinkies or a cigar. Shot a 38 and drank 40 oz. of water. Been doing a little bit of running and playing tennis (hadn't done that in 15 years). Lungs coming back. Energy coming back. Tomorrow morning I start my training for a 10k that is on Sept 8. To top it all off, my niece tried my Volt last night and after one drag ordered her starter kit from SI. What a weekend!
Burned over 900 calories this morning playing golf and had a decent shot or two Managed to drive a par 4 in one. This has been a game changer in just a week. I can't imagine what things will be like in a month.

Sounds like a great way to spend a weekend... Man I miss golf. I had to give it up just about the time I finally started being happy with my handicap being shown on the board... (LOL)...
