Gosh - miss a couple days and 30 pages behind! Hi all! Been thinkin about everyone here!
I was so surprised to see a message from Imagine. I can no longer say I never win anything. I won a $50 gift certificate from SI. Are they not the coolest company or what? One of my X2 batts decided to die over the weekend ... Guess I know what part of it's going for!

Lilac: Love that pic of the horses! How cute! Where did you find that???
I had to save a copy for my screensaver collection!

Kico--CONGRATULATIONS on getting your senior horse. Did you get your blue roan dream colt to?
No, I decided to pass on the blue roan. Later that night when another load of malnurished came in, I almost wished I hadn't ... I thot I saw a blue roan ... but the light of day showed him not to be so I was ok! I think I'm seeing a little progress on my senior boy - not lookin' quite so thin in the rib area. Hubby is noticing improvement in the hunches ...

No apologies needed I just have a weak stomach in the morning and don't have the good sense to stop reading things that tend to make me feel a little green. You guy's can talk about guts all you want. Next time I'll just skip ahead unless it's after I've had my breakfast, err, no I'll skip ahead anyway. Carry on...
This was an interesting topic. Sorry 1st Officer - can't resist: "you need to spend a little time workin' in a nursing home - you'll be amazed at what topics you can cover with a meal!" :D ( I said I was sorry ... :p )

I buy demos and refurbs. Last year's models, but hey, they work and they're a lot cheaper!
This site lists good deals too: PocketDeals
One of the clerks at a local store said she's been really happy w/ her dealings at www.tigerdirect.com - she only buys refurbs now.
I personally no longer have any time for our 'nearby' Computer Renaissance. Had trouble w/ it the entire 3 years it was under warranty. Took it in several times (1 hour drive to get there). Bet it was used less than 2 months total. Last week took it in locally. The new guy checked it out - said there was so much wrong with it - don't bother fixing it.

10 pages left to catch up ... perhaps tomorrow ... Have a good day/evening!

Ok - couldn't go to bed ... still chuckling over what I'd been reading so I finished up the last 10 pages!

WELCOME to all the new Volties! This has to be the most fun thread ever - anywhere! My family always knows when I'm here - because I'm laughing quite a bit!

Sure - now I forgot half of what I was thinking!
Rain: We had a lot of racket for quite some time ... for just 2/10 a couple nights ago. We could use a bunch too.

Oh - loved the political comments! Any of you listen to Alex Jones' Infowars: There's a war on for your mind!
Umm - not to be a PITA but you do know you could get fined for saving rainwater, right? (Yup - happened in Oregon)

Lung cancer: I read somewhere (probably Mercola.com) more women get lung cancer regardless of smoking - the fumes from teflon pans and too much heat create an off-gassing.
Now I can go to sleep ... take care all!

Wow, that's a crazy law, isn't it? Last I heard, it was Utah, Colorado and Washington - apparently, people couldn't collect rainwater falling on their property because it didn't belong to them. So what, the law's protecting God? But it had to have been reversed by now, right? That's just too ridiculous.

In California, rainwater harvesting is all the rage. Gubment doesn't even like it when you don't have a runoff management system to keep the rain from running down your driveway, onto the sidewalk and into the city drain. So I guess they feel it's the property owners' water, and their problem, not the city's. If they haven't made it a law already, at least for new construction, they will soon. Boy, we're just an uber-green bunch of freaks here in Cali, huh?

Thanks everyone for the warm welcomes! I got my Volts about 12 hours ago (after 6 trips to an empty mailbox  ) and I have been happily vaping them between naps since. I got 2 78mm autos, one purple and one black. My purple is great, but I am having a bit of trouble with the black one, so perhaps some advice??? :) It has a very airy draw, and therefore is hard to activate. I feel like I am having to create hurricane force winds to activate it. Any simple fixes for this? (And I do mean simple. I am SO not mechanically inclined. )

Chookychuck- always happy to have someone to talk smack with! ;) I work some weekends, and the 3rd Sat in October is one of the "big three" that I absolutely refuse to work. LSU and the Iron Bowl are the others.

1st Officer- misfits, huh? I'll "fit" right in then. ;)

Usually for me the airy draw is from something being on the threads. Even the most miniscule speck can cause the connection to not seat properly. I take a tissue and my thumb nail and run it through the threads on the battery, starting at the top and let your nail follow the groove as you turn it. Then I lightly use the tissue wrapped around a tooth pick to do the connection on the cartridge. I also poke the toothpick into the vent holes just below the battery threads and blow them out to make sure I didn't push anything into them when using the tissue. Condensation builds up on the battery connection also, so make sure you keep the connections wiped off. You could use the toothpick and tissue in the groove on the end of the battery that the air holes go into also, just be careful with the pressure because I believe there is a seal in there.

Don't think I'm cut out for working in one but recently my 13 year old Daughter reminded me that she would be picking which one she puts me in soon! if I didn't stop plotting the demise her new boyfriend...kids! She is the 5th in line and they still don't understand what my job as a Dad is.

Rule#1 Always clean guns at kitchen table when new boyfriend visits first time.

Rule#2 If You ever hurt my little Girl just remember the first time you came to visit!

I scared her last boyfriend so bad he never spoke to her again. So she has some crazy idea this time will be different. Where do they get this Sh** from?

I had a neiighbor who had two, very attractive, daughters and was a "little" protective of them to say the least. One of the hot football players came by for that first casual date, and my neighbor was out in the driveway with a chainsaw, al la Chevy Chase in "Christmas Vacation", no mask though. The kid never came back! I was very lucky, my daughter has a great deal of common sense and never gave us reason to worry. Just lucky I guess, but then again, back in those days, I carried a .357 basically 24/7.

What digger said tidegirl. What I do is take a toothpick and go around the battery treads and air holes. Then I go around with and alcohol swab then I do what digger was talking about. I have found so far that the chrome batteries are really bad withies because the chrome really gets into the threads and air holes.

Whoaaa! I had not heard about the other states! Can't recall just how far they pushed it or if Alex was being facetious regarding taxed on amount of rainfall you get ... I know - the whole "District" is living in it's own little bubble ...

ROFL!!! I love rule #1!!! Reminds me of a late night talk show host (Letterman?) interviewing one of the country singers w/ 5 or 6 daughters. I think he met the boys like that. He also let them know he lots of back woods property and a back hoe!
Wish I still had that "Application to Date my Daughter"! You would love it! About 2 pages ... Not only did it require license plate number but recall one question asked if the prospective boy owned or had access to a van!

Tidegirl: What they said! I also take a dental hook thingy (came in a bunch of tools) and ever so slightly lift a fraction of a millimeter (ok a hair) on the center post. Those plastic dental picks w/ floss on them work pretty good for cleaning too. I use a pocket knife to thin the edge of it some to fit along the edge of that center post to really clean it well. Some use a a tiny flat screwdriver (eye glass repair kit). Be careful if you use a toothpick to clean the vent holes. The first time I did it, I had fun getting the broken off piece out! That's why I pretty much use the hook thingy. (It looks like an ice pick but bent at a 45 degree angle.)

BEFORE YOU GO TO ALL OF THIS WORK: don't recall if you said - did you try a different carto or two? I've sometimes found that to be the bigger issue! Let us know how you make out with it ...

Hang on - more of the calvary will be along as well. Have you checked out any video's on YouTube or at SI? I was really surprised to see how much there is out there on all the possible tweaks you can do to this stuff!!!

After watching the video on rebuilding the Clearo's ... I dug out one I'd tossed in a box in case SI wanted it back (overheated and melted the screw-on cap). I succeeded in fixing the gunked up clearo! It's working pretty good! WOW - I'm still in shock over how thick the crud was on it! Just a couple hours a day for 3 weeks ... Butterscotch Puddin'. :vapor:

I hadn't known about this, so of course, I Googled it. This site -- HarvestH2o.com :: Regulations -- has a comprehensive list of the laws for each state. Apparently, these laws aren't something new; at least one has been on the books for 120 years! But a recent study showed that only about 3% of rainwater actually winds up in streams and rivers. Most is used by plants in the ground where it falls or it evaporates. So conserving water by collecting rainwater actually is a good thing, and the laws are being changed. Still, some laws exist to say what you can do with what kinds of water for health purposes, since these laws might concern reusing water, i.e., gray water for your garden but not to drink. This is a very interesting subject. Thanks, Kico, for letting us know about it.

All of my Daughter's Boyfriends, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and sometimes beyond get the gun cleaning on the kitchen table treatment. It is very effective and It's easy to tell that just by the look of fear that they have on their faces that I have made my point. It also helps that I'm a Biker and I wear my clubs leather vest so they can see my grim reaper tattoos and a few others I can't name here, Intimidation is my job! The wife is always quick to add "you know he's just kidding" but I just continue to stare at them like maybe they won't even make it to the first date. Last week I dropped my youngest off at her "boyfriends" house for his birthday party on my Harley and had three of the biggest members of the club go with me. I don't think I've ever seen a more shocked look on that kids face not to mention his family's faces when they see 4 big ugly bikers on loud Harleys pull up in their driveway. I will say this, none of my Daughters have ever been late getting home. I do realize kids will do what kids will do but I bet they give it a bit more thought than if I was just nice and friendly. Plus it's just too much fun for me... :D

Belated welcome, tidegirl!

Since you just got your batts a few hours ago, I'm guessing that they're not dirty, so no amount of regular cleaning would get that black one to be less airy - though it wouldn't hurt to try. If it's not the carto, my guess is that it has something to do with how they machined the threads on that one. If I were you, I would contact customer service and swap it out, while it's still under warranty. You could fiddle with it, but if it's faulty threads, you're gonna have to fiddle with it forever. A quick fix would be to plug up one of the holes with a broken toothpick or something, but even that won't get it to work as well as it should. Or hopefully there will be an obvious metal shard that needed to get scraped out of the threads with something sharp (like a needle, dental pick, t-pin, ...) - but I would think that screwing on a carto would've cleared any of that out...

Out of all the batts I have, I've only seen that problem on one. It was gifted to me so I couldn't return it, but I keep it around as a spare.
:)

I think this is the problem. I cleaned the threads, no difference. I tried 2 cartos. One is slightly better than the other, but still not right. But cartos are fine on the purple batt. Figures that I would get a bad one. If there is a one in a million chance of something going wrong, I'm gonna be the one. I will submit to CS. Thanks.

I agree with the machining. I thought of this a while after my response. I had a carto that had the vent openings machined larger than the rest. I tried it on 3 batteries with the same results. Upon inspecting, I could literally see the difference. I know this is not a thread problem like you mentioned, but quality drops with the life of the tool being used, or change over of operator and settings. Good thinking.

TideGirl: Great song! Thanks!

I was thinkin' after I posted - Dah! It's new! I agree with Cindy: send in a ticket!
I had an X2 batt go bad after 3-4 weeks; got a replacement and it quit working a few DAYS later. I set to the side for a week - quite annoyed - then decided to contact SI. SHEESH - somehow - some way - it managed to get turned off! I had no clue it was one of the 5 click off & on batts! It died this past weekend - right after the sale ended ... but I know it got a gooooood workout - so I'm happy anyway.

Speakin' of batts yet: curious - do y'all wait til the battery is totally dead before you plug it in? I know the question was raised about using it up totally or partially before chargin' up ... Does it last affect how long it lasts? 300 partial charges or 300 FULL charges?
Got to thinkin' if it's approx 300 charges ... Why am I chargin' before it really needs to? yesterday I let a 900 mah go dead. LOL! It took 5 hours to charge back up!

ETA: The good news is: You can NOT beat SI's customer service! The company I got my first kit from:
1 batt died in a week. Their reply said a replacement was in the mail. That was last Feb ... I'm NOT holding my breathe! The second batt died at 3 weeks. There was NO reply to that email. The credit card was charged 2 times for the one kit. Bugs me I never double checked to make sure it actually got credited back - their reply on that was: the manufacturer asked if I ordered 2 kits.
