Cuz you're not use to the cold living in florida. Your blood gets thinner I think. I had an aunt in florida and one in texas and neither of them did well with the cold when they visited us.

Yep. You are. Sorry for you. :(
But you will enjoy friends and family - if you have alot there.
And just remember to layer...you know, your clothes. Works for me.

almost all our family and friends are there,,,,,,,,I can't wait :) My husband hasn't seen his mother in ELEVEN YEARS. She's too ill to travel,,,,,and he should be ashamed for staying away that long :(

but his dad committed suicide several years ago, and I think he's had a tough time with the idea of going home (they didn't have a funeral or a memorial)

I finally just TOLD him,,,,,,we're going.

Awww. Death is hard, but when its suicide it stays with you even longer I think. I had a friend who did that and it was hard to go back to the house or even see stuff she gave me. I bet he did have a bad time with it. Sorry for him.
I'm sure tho, after 11 years, its probably good to go and face it now so he can move on in life about it.
Hope you guys have a good time. :)

It's getting cooler here, too. Time to break out the jeans although it'll be, or supposed to be, back into the 70's this week so I can get away with shorts for a little longer.

I had friends from Canada. Whne they first moved down here I went outside one sunny March day, it was about 45 or so. There was my neighbors wife in short shorts and a tank top sitting on the porch having coffee while her son, in shorts and a t-shirst was playing in the yard. They though it was kind of hot out. All what you're used to.

I've lived here most of my life and I still can't get used to the Bama summers. Sometimes it gets up to 110F hot and humid, can't hardly breathe. They are brutal. Fortunately its only for about 6wks it gets that hot usually but it seems like eternity.

Haha, that's why I don't jog! Not by a hunting dog, but a really big city one. I was out jogging one morning and actually ended up on top of someone's car until it went away. That was about 30 years ago. I only "jog" in front of the TV now!

Cindy I know that was terrifying. If there is one thing that makes me mad more than an abuser its irresponsible dog owners. In the area where my Mother lives there was a guy killed by 5 pittbulls. Across the street from my daughter's neighbor has Pittbulls and they are bad to come over in Shelly's yard or used to be. One attacked her little Pug and threatened Shelly and her pregnant. The law was called but b/c they live rural they couldn't do anything but give Josh permission to kill if need be.
How hard is it to build a fence and put a few strands of electric fencing around it? Or to allow a dog to stay in the house? If a person isn't willing to do that then they don't need a dog IMHO.
For the record I have nothing against Pittbulls. Its just they were the breed involved in the above situations. Every dog that has teeth has the capacity to hurt someone. Spot maybe the sweetest most gentle dog that ever was but given the right situation dear old Spot WILL bite.!!!
I'm glad you weren't hurt Cindy.

Bo has had obedience and therapy dog training, but we still have "Beware of Dog" signs up on the gates to the back yard. He likes people but I still keep him on a short leash when we're out walking around a lot of people. He is very defensive about his/our home and property and judging by how fast he goes through a nylabone if he ever really bit someone he could do some very serious damage. I'm cautious by nature with him just because I don't want to frighten anyone, most people are already wary of him just because of his size. We have a neighbor who got a German Sheperd pup and it's killed a few of his chickens and ducks and regularly gets out and wanders the neighborhood,a pretty rural area. Now he wants to adopt a Mastiff, he likes big dogs. I just wish he were a better owner. Any dog, if not properly trained and cared for, can be a problem, even "rug rats" let alone something the size of a Sheperd or Pit Bull. Some people shouldn't have pets at all but you can't cure stupid.

Off the soap box.

Penny is a female border collie who was lined up for euthenasia. She had been through a few homes, shelters, and rescues. Penny was labeled as a "biter." No one was able to work with her. She would always bite. Being unadoptable, euthenasia was scheduled.

I happened by chance to find out about her, the day she was scheduled. Border collie? I could use a border collie. I agreed to take Penny. The shelter was more than glad to get rid of her. So happy as a matter of fact, they drove her out to me.

Penny arrived with a leash and a muzzle. I took the leash and walked her to an adjacent field. I knelt down in front of her and removed her leash. She made no attempt to run. I removed her muzzle with my face right in front of hers. Penny began to lick my face. Slowly at first, but then with great exuberance.

Penny has never made an attempt to bite anyone since. Not even close.

She is not the herder that Bill is, but she's a good protector of the herd. She will watch and protect a herd without question or command. Penny has chased the wild turkeys that Bill stays away from. Penny is Bill's friend.

Down here in South Jersey there's lots of open farm land. The County Fair Grounds abut to a farm so there had to be 3/4 of a mil of a mile of open space for a "landing zone". The air cannon was making it pretty much all the way, but even if they had chunked them further, there's a few hundred acres of woods after that and then a sod farm so you could safely fire high powered rifles there as well. As far as noise, a trebuchet is basically completely silent and the air cannon just made a loud "woosh", Bo didn't even look up or jump for any of it and he hates loud, sharp noises.

Not to dismiss the fun of a good punkin chunkin contest but you mentioned a sod farm and it brought back memories of living on Long Island, land of the sod farm. I could never understand how their could be a multimillion dollar industry dedicated to growing lawns for folks that were too rich and lazy to grow their own lawns. 80% of the old potato farms were converted to sod farms in the time I lived there because it was more important and profitable to grow a millionaires yard than it was to grow food to feed the worlds hungry? And we wonder why the rest of the world think we are over indulgent, where did we go wrong. [Rant Off]

We are over indulgent. Not you or me personally necessarily. But as a whole....we are. :(

It alway boggles my mind that I drive past literally hundreds of acres of cultivated grass, farmers get paid NOT to grow crops like corn, wheat or soy beans or even have less cattle and people, in this country let alone the rest of the world, don't have food. I understand the market for sod for ball fields, but front and back yards is a little much.
