Well, it's football day. Off to watch the games. I was asked to join a fantasy football team at the start of the season this year. We had our championships last week and I won the whole thing! The boys are a bit ticked that a newbie girl beat them! Now that I've said this, I'm destined to the bottom of the bowl next year!

I do have some extra money coming in from my winnings. Oh what to buy next! :)

Hope everyone has a wonderful day/night!

"At age 4 success is...not ...... your pants.
At age 12 success is...having friends.
At age 17 success is...having a driver's license.
At age 20 success is...having sex.
At age 35 success is...having money.
At age 50 success is...having money.
At age 65 success is...having sex.
At age 70 success is...having a driver's license.
At age 75 success is...having friends.
At age 80 success is....not ...... your pants."

I'm going to have to protest this and ask you to note that not ...... your pants is success AT ANY AGE!!:D

I am headed out to a birthday party for a dear friend. It is advertised as the 30th anniversary of his 50th birthday, making him 80 years old today. He does not look a day over 60, is very active and does not pee in his pants, so I think there is hope for the rest of us

If I live that long, I just hope my $ last.

great news rave..now catch up on your beauty sleep..

Yeahhh - I looked in the mirror after I woke up, and it hadn't helped. :(

Rave, I hear that bacterial infections are pretty common after surgery. His immune system is so focused on the cuts and grafts that the bugs slipped through. Plus he's in a hospital - bacteria galore! Once the antibiotics kick in, he'll be back in no time! ;)
...but maybe tell him not to try vaping for awhile. He doesn't need anything going into his lungs but air.
[/B]

I don't believe he has anything with him to vape because he asked me to vape RY4 for him in the mornings. :vapor:

If you don't know, then you are a youngin (too young) ;)

Yippee!! I'm a youngun again! I shoulda known what that was. But .... I forgot .... old.gif

Reading the posts from yesterday brought home to me again the many aspects and levels of this wonderful gift of life.

Much of the time we travel on a rather level plane; doing the everyday things that are sometimes pleasant, sometimes humdrum, sometimes a bit tense or worrisome, but still within the limits of what we consider average days. Those, though, are usually the major part of life and should be cherished.

But at times that level line dips or peaks.

When it dips we experience the greatest pain of all, the pain of the loss of loved ones. Followed closely by the serious illness or injury of loved ones, personal serious illness or bodily pain, grave financial circumstances.

But the peaks! Those moments of absolute joy! They may be few and fleeting, but they add such wonder to the journey.

Forgive me if I seem melodramatic. The compassion, caring and sharing of all of you inspires me. Later I will be embarrassed for getting carried away.

Oh, don't you dare feel embarassed, Marlou. Sincerity should never cause embarrassment.

The little horse is being so sweet and cute lately. Okay, he's always cute but he is turning into a real snuggle bunny. I decide I need to take him for a walk yesterday. Nothing fancy just a bit of a walk. *snipped for brevity*

OH MY GOSH, Lizzie!! You had me belly-laughing. I maintain that's the best kind of laugh possible. Thanks - I needed that!!

At 62 my body has definitely aged. When I look in the mirror, I ask myself "Who are you? And what did you do with Paulette?"

But in my mind I I feel like I'm still sweet 16.

Oooh Moonstruck - You and me both. Except, I don't ask "What did you do with Paulette?" That would be a little strange if I did.

Okay - Since there is also a discussion about "AGE" - Here is something else I was just sent to help lighten up the thread a little . . . :D

As I was lying in bed pondering the problems of the world, I rapidly realized that I don't really give a rat's hiney. It's the tortoise life for me! A tortoise doesn't run and does nothing, yet it lives for 450 years. Not sure if my IRA investments will last 45 months. Anyway, here is a New Years thought from me to you all. May all be well with you.

*snipped again*

You all are making me laugh so hard today!! That was great, Uncle!! 123776276.gif

Update on Bluesman:

Well, apparently, you can't keep a good man down. I will attest to the fact that Blues is a good man. It seems that the only way that they could keep him "down" was to put a sedative in his IV drip. He rested whether he wanted to or not. I suspect "not". So, I haven't much to report. I'm hoping that the antibiotics are doing their thing. When I talked with his friend, I don't believe she'd talked to the doctor yet today. Blues is talking again. :) Sure wish I could talk with him ...

Isn't it something how the end of the year comes around and we stop to remember people and things, some long ago, some more recent? I suppose the year's end is like a chapter closing and we get a fresh start.

Well I'm in that frame of mind today and makes me want to share a poem that I find especially inspiring and helpful. I have this printed out and also have a little card I keep in my wallet to pull out and read when I find myself getting too wound up. Anyway here it is, hope you like it.

Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and ignorant; they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be critical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy.

Good thing to remember.....sometimes you can get hung up on the sham, drudgery, and broken dreams.....
Gotta remember to strive to be happy. :)

As to those MIA:

Holly is sick and probably just not up to being on the forum much. She has that long-lasting cold-like crud. It really takes awhile to get over that. So sending her a get-well-soon prayer.

I'm pretty sure Raynes is out of town; we'll probably hear from her soon.

QRXT, that poem was beautiful and inspiring. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Lizzie, sounds like you had a lot of fun with Wiseguy. Wish I could have seen that.

So I feel like I've stumbled upon a secret family meeting when I enter this forum. I'm sorry that I don't share a wealth of info about my daily life. It is actually quite boring. But, I'll tell you a bit about me if that will help to break the ice. I'm originally from West Virginia and yes, I did have a southern drawl about my voice. I spent 11 years in the US Navy. I've been around the world - via plane of course. Being a woman, when I joined, we weren't allowed on ships. That changed later on in my career, but my specialty kept me at large Naval stations so I never saw sea time.

I live in the central valley of Northern California with my Min Pin - Whisper. We ride on my Harley-Davidson together whenever we get a chance. Whisper is my kid. I don't have human kids or spouse. She is my life line and my best friend.

Back to the Harley - which is my real passion. I have a 2012 Road Glide Custom. I have a special dog carrier for Whisper who rides on the back seat behind me. We are planning a trip to New Mexico next year. Whisper has been riding with me since she was a pup, and doesn't get scared. She loves motorcycling and if she hears a bike, she always looks. She's very smart around the bikes and always avoids the hot parts. She's been to Arizona - Grand Canyon with me and she's itching to go on another vacation!

I am a vegan. I've heard all of the jokes, but you can amuse me if you want. I chose to do this because I saw my father die of Alzheimer's disease. From what I've read, going strict vegan greatly reduces your chances of getting this horrible disease.

I have run marathons and completed a full Ironman triathlon in 2003. I had quit smoking a few years before all of this happened. I started smoking again when my mother went into the hospital and I had to fly back to WV to move my parents out of their home in 5 days by myself. It was stressful enough to bring me back to smoking, dealing with my father in his early stages of dementia and packing up their belongings.

I'm a little old fashioned and bohemian of sorts. My house is decorated in southwestern. I adore Native American pottery and used to collect it when I had a good paying job.

I work in the solid waste and recycling division for my city. Please make sure your old batteries go to a recycling center, the landfills aren't a great place for them. OK, I did my part for the environment, I'll get off my soap box now.

I have a wicked sense of humor and it can be dry at times. I try to remember proper e-etiquette, but if I slip, please don't jump to conclusions that I'm being mean or spiteful.

I love SI's products and service. That is what brought me here. I really don't want to get deep into the mods and like the kiss approach. I may end up buying more sophisticated goodies, but for now I'm happy with my X2's and T3's.

I hope you have learned a bit about me. I'm not trying to intrude, just trying to fit in. If that's not your bag, then that's ok. No hard feelings. Sorry for the long post. I'll digress into the shadows again...

Rock on vaper Volties!

Hey Tail, thanks for telling us a little about yourself. And NO, you are not intruding, you are very, very welcome here.

I hear what you're saying about the military. I served in the Army, but that was waaaaayyyyyyyyy back in the 70's. Women were barely allowed to do PT back then, let alone much of anything else. My first duty assignment was hilarious. My MOS was organizational supply, but when I arrived at Wm. Beaumont Hospital (El Paso, TX), and they found out I could type 80wpm on a manual typewriter, I was quickly transferred from my original assignment and assigned to the Provost Marshall as his personal secretary. Then they had me trained for the M-16 and .45 handgun. Women were not allowed in the MPs at this time. But that little rule was shall we say "overlooked" whenever they needed a female to accompany/pick up/arrest another female. It was interesting to say the least.

I love Southwestern motifs as well as Native American art. But it sounds like you are way more physically fit than me, LOL. And yep, there are a few of us here besides yourself with no human kids or spouses. My sidekick is Sadie who is half Chihauhau/half French Bulldog. So see, you fit right in!

Glad to get to know you a little better.

Well it's the last full night of 2012 and I'm heading outside for a brief (it's cold!) look at the night sky. I love to ponder the universe, you know? Just last night, before I fell asleep, I was laying in bed, looking up at the beautiful stars and thought to myself----"Where in the hell is my ceiling?"

I know, I'm terrible! 'Night kids.....

And you too Moonstruck! I had some friends that were in the Army. They told me that it was mandatory to wear lipstick and wear a skirt. I joined in 1980, so the Navy was a bit more friendlier to women. The shoes were horrible...

I actually wanted to switch my rating from Radioman to Aviation Maintenance. I got my state senator involved and they held back my chit 2 days before I was to graduate Radioman school. I learned the hard way that the Navy doesn't like to deal with senators. Needless to say, I stayed a Radioman only because I was graduating. I pretty fast on the old teletype machines/keyboards! But you sound faster!

Love the little chi chi's! Whisper always gets mistaken for one. I have a t-shirt that says No, I'm not a chihuahua! I usually wear that to the dog park.

Have a wonderful evening! I've got to turn in. I've put my household chores off for way to long and have to get up early to take care of them!
