o.o;;; Seems like I've been away for awhile, did you miss me? :D

Happy birthday to those that I've missed, (Debra and Catlady right?) i skimmed over it the other day on my phone and can't seem to find the page right now :(

Happy new years ever everyone!

I've had major success in the vaping world, i found a strawberry at a smoke shop, little pricey, but very very tasty!!!!
I have watermelon and blueberry from Volt and Niquid, respectively, on the way to my house right now!

However i am out of town with my family to see my mother, which explains my absence, and i will be unable to taste them till tuesday night. :(

I hope all of you have a very happy new year, and dont party to hard! ;p

New horse owner had a sort of panicky moment this morning. It is way colder than predicted so I went out to get the little horse some hay and some hot water to melt his ice in his water bucket at the .... crack of dawn. I could barely see. He isn't shivering and he looks okay despite my worries but then I notice he has weird elevated feet. Turns out he is standing on ice blocks. Hubby came out and we carefully chipped them off but boy was I worried.

I went on line and I guess this is pretty common but we are going to shovel some of the snow out of his pen and make sure he has straw where he likes to stand by the fence and in his three sided shed.

I'm going to go out and check on him again after he has a chance to get some groceries into his little horsey tummy.

By the way, coffee is on and cinnamon rolls are on the table. It's cold out and I have been doing lots of baking:)

Sitting down, facing forward.
Tail and Moon...I want to say a sincere thank you to both of you for your service. You both went into the Armed Forces at a time when women weren't as welcome as today, not that things are perfect today. My chauvinism makes me want to keep women out of harms way, but my logic says differently. Maybe you both have made a contribution beyond just serving, I'd like to think so.

Warm cinnamon rolls sound great, thanks Lizzie!

This is the dreaded Kittishark (genus: felis grindum buttkus)! It looks like a normal kitty in the water, but that's how it lures you to the edge of the boat. "Awww such a nice kitty! How did you fall in the water?" Then the teeth come out and...(insert sound of running chainsaw here)...AAAAGGGHHH.

  :danger:

LOL!

Snow can ball up in horses' feet, especially if it's a sort of wet snow, not powdery. There's not much you can do about it except remove it periodically with a hoof pick. Some people have tried things like spraying Pam on the soles or painting them with olive oil, but the oily coating wears off in seconds, and you're right back where you started. I assume Wiseguy doesn't have shoes. If he does, you can ask the farrier to add snowball pads under the shoes, but I wouldn't put shoes on him just for that reason. Do his hooves need trimming? That might help, since the snow is more likely to collect in deep, cup-shaped hooves than in rather flat ones. Putting straw or shavings down can help -- till the next snowfall, when it'll be covered. You are right to be concerned, though. Standing on snowy stilts is not good for a horse's legs. Just clean the snow out as soon as you see it collecting so he can stand flat on the ground. Sometimes, before it gets too high, moving around, he'll knock out the clump of snow on his own.

I like trying new things. I started with the auto 78s then got a couple of auto X2s. After some time I added a couple of manuals to try. Now I like the manuals. Just ordered two more manuals. Then I wanted to try variable voltage so I got a couple of ego twists.

If sampling different things from other places is a sin, then I'm one too. ;)

The good news is that we won't have more snow for at least a week. Every year is different and we have had some years where it snows and it stays because it is so cold out but most years the snow melts off with in a day or two. If we rake some of the snow out of the pen and put straw where he like to stand, I am hoping he won't get the ice balls on his feet again.

By the way, miniature horses should not wear shoes. Their feet are so small that it is dangerous to shoe them as you can hit their vascular system too easily. They generally have feet of iron since the hoof wall is thick compared to their size. Some people like to put boots on them but Wiseguy has been on road base, packed dirt and asphalt and never had a problem with his hooves. His farrier thinks his feet look good. The farrier has experience with miniature horses and I really like him.

We thought it would be 13 degrees but it went down to 2 degrees. Fortunately, other than the ice balls on his feet, Wiseguy looked frosty but fine. Wasn't shivering at all and looked plenty perky. Of course, I'll be going out to look him over better in a little bit.

As to those MIA:

Holly is sick and probably just not up to being on the forum much. She has that long-lasting cold-like crud. It really takes awhile to get over that. So sending her a get-well-soon prayer.
I'm pretty sure Raynes is out of town; we'll probably hear from her soon.

QRXT, that poem was beautiful and inspiring. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Lizzie, sounds like you had a lot of fun with Wiseguy. Wish I could have seen that.

Yeah Moon. I was just hoping she was finally over it.

So I feel like I've stumbled upon a secret family meeting when I enter this forum. I'm sorry that I don't share a wealth of info about my daily life. It is actually quite boring. But, I'll tell you a bit about me if that will help to break the ice. I'm originally from West Virginia and yes, I did have a southern drawl about my voice. I spent 11 years in the US Navy. I've been around the world - via plane of course. Being a woman, when I joined, we weren't allowed on ships. That changed later on in my career, but my specialty kept me at large Naval stations so I never saw sea time.

I live in the central valley of Northern California with my Min Pin - Whisper. We ride on my Harley-Davidson together whenever we get a chance. Whisper is my kid. I don't have human kids or spouse. She is my life line and my best friend.

Back to the Harley - which is my real passion. I have a 2012 Road Glide Custom. I have a special dog carrier for Whisper who rides on the back seat behind me. We are planning a trip to New Mexico next year. Whisper has been riding with me since she was a pup, and doesn't get scared. She loves motorcycling and if she hears a bike, she always looks. She's very smart around the bikes and always avoids the hot parts. She's been to Arizona - Grand Canyon with me and she's itching to go on another vacation!

I am a vegan. I've heard all of the jokes, but you can amuse me if you want. I chose to do this because I saw my father die of Alzheimer's disease. From what I've read, going strict vegan greatly reduces your chances of getting this horrible disease.

I have run marathons and completed a full Ironman triathlon in 2003. I had quit smoking a few years before all of this happened. I started smoking again when my mother went into the hospital and I had to fly back to WV to move my parents out of their home in 5 days by myself. It was stressful enough to bring me back to smoking, dealing with my father in his early stages of dementia and packing up their belongings.

I'm a little old fashioned and bohemian of sorts. My house is decorated in southwestern. I adore Native American pottery and used to collect it when I had a good paying job.

I work in the solid waste and recycling division for my city. Please make sure your old batteries go to a recycling center, the landfills aren't a great place for them. OK, I did my part for the environment, I'll get off my soap box now.

I have a wicked sense of humor and it can be dry at times. I try to remember proper e-etiquette, but if I slip, please don't jump to conclusions that I'm being mean or spiteful.

I love SI's products and service. That is what brought me here. I really don't want to get deep into the mods and like the kiss approach. I may end up buying more sophisticated goodies, but for now I'm happy with my X2's and T3's.

I hope you have learned a bit about me. I'm not trying to intrude, just trying to fit in. If that's not your bag, then that's ok. No hard feelings. Sorry for the long post. I'll digress into the shadows again...

Rock on vaper Volties!

After all your years of dedicated service... and I thank you! You deserve to enjoy your life now, travelling with Whisper. Sounds like she enjoys it as well. I also love reading your posts! Keep them coming!!!

No need to digress into the shadows Tail11, you are definately not intruding. I felt the same way and within a couple of days I felt right at home here. Only one fox chasing this wabbit on the forum (you all know who that is ). You fit in rightalong with old wabbit. I was in the Navy during Vietnam and never saw sea time. I was stationed in Norfolk Va. on the Admiral's staff of Carrier Division 5. I also have a wicked dry wit as you have seen. As for a Harley, well I wish. I have always been a custom car fan and have rebuilt several from junk in years past. Just too old and creaky to do that anymore.

Have a good New Years Eve everyone. Hope for no hangovers tomorrow.

AND LAUGH AT 2012--- A LOT

Three retirees, each with a hearing loss, were playing golf one fine March day. One remarked to the other, "Windy, isn't it?" "No," the second man replied, "it's Thursday." And the third man chimed in, "So am I. Let's have a beer."

Tail, don't feel funny posting, you won't find a nicer group of people than the people here! (Notice I didn't say normal, :p hehe) I have been lurking around for months and haven't posted very much about myself, or about anything really. Still, I pop in, more often lately, and say a few things then back to the lurker corner I go. I actually feel guilty sometimes that I am getting the benefit of all the posts everyone has taken the time to share and not contributing in return. I think it's a "whatever you are comfortable with" policy around here. Welcome to SI!

Hoping everyone enjoys New Years Eve and wakes up safe, sound, happy, healthy and whole on New Years Day!
