Well folks, not sure if I'll be on tonight and tomorrow morning. My computer is in the shop and haven't been called by the tech to tell me the good news/bad news ;)

See ya soon <hopefully>!!!

Sorry to hear that, I also may be off line the next couple of days, heading to visit my grand children for their belated birthday. Mrs. Wabbit and I were to go last weekend, but she was not feeling well from our Xmas visit and the kids were still not 100%. I am taking my laptop, but won't be on line much.

SandySu, thanks once again for these excellent pics you've posted. I've started a new photo album for them and have one of the winter scenes up as wallpaper on my computer right now. 001.jpg

Sorry you're down in the dumps about your arm surgery. I'm more inclined to judge by how I'm feeling/performing rather than what a dr. says. It seems you've made significant improvement because of your PT, so may I suggest a wait-and-see attitude? I am keeping you in my prayers.

Lizzie, loved the goat pictures! Goats can be so much fun; we had them as kids. We received 4 orphaned babies and bottle-fed them. My mom had her heart set on goat's milk -- guess she should have examined them a little closer. They all turned out to be billies, haha. They followed us around like puppy dogs. They'd stand at the end of our 1/4-mile driveway every day waiting for the school bus to drop us off. They quickly learned how to open our screen door and would walk right into the house. Mom didn't like that part, LOL.

Debra, sorry about the trouble you're having. Gee, if we could only pick our relatives.

Gee, I hope Holly's doing okay. Would love to hear from her. Hope she is recovering from her illness.

About DIY:
I've only been making DIY juice for a couple of weeks, but I love it. I started pretty simple, though, with mainly fruit flavors and ethyl maltol for sweetening. The EM doesn't sweeten a whole lot, but I've found it really makes the fruit flavors pop.

This morning I made a chocolate cream vape with 4 flavors & EM (double chocolate clear, double choclate dark, whipped cream & sweet cream). It turned out pretty darned good & I ended up vaping about 1 ml of it. My 1st vape of it, and hence my 1st impression, however, was "Oh no it tastes like burnt coffee :censored: ." I waited a bit, and then it really did taste like creamy chocolate, more like chocolate icing than chocolate candy. I think I just tasted too soon, needed to let the wicks get more saturated first. It will be interesting to see how the flavor changes after a bit of steeping.

In less than 2 weeks I've now made around 16 different juices, some more than once (I keep vaping up all the watermelon, juicy peach, pear, pineapple & buttery nipple -- can't stay out of them they're so good). I'm only making 5ml batches for right now, because there are just so many flavors I want to try.

The only juice I've made so far that I don't like very much is the banana nut bread. I couldn't really taste anything at first. I added some barvarian cream to it, and now it tastes better & I can at least taste the banana in it. Still not a favorite, though.

I don't vape tobacco flavors, so I'm not making those. But be warned, many tobacco flavors must steep for a month or more before tasting good. There's lots of good info over in the DIY forum.

Have a great day everyone!!

I'm back from the physical therapist. First, I asked her if she thought I was progressing normally. She said I was, and she thought I had noticed the difference myself, which I have done. Then I told her that the doctor seemed to think I hadn't progressed enough, and he mentioned another operation to remove the plate. I said if the plate is getting in the way of my shoulder movement, maybe it should come out, but if I just need to work harder at the exercises, I didn't want another operation (of course). I suggested, and she agreed, that she should view the X-rays taken after the plate was put in and see if she can determine if the plate is getting in the way, or if the surgeon just wants things perfect, and taking the plate out would be better in his mind, even if it means me going through another surgery. I think surgery is a lot more routine to him than it is to me! Also, the physical therapist said she'd try to get me the name of a good doctor to get a 2nd opinion from. This evening, a physical therapist who specializes in hands and arms is going to be there, and she's sure he'll know someone. She assured me that my surgeon is considered the best. Bill brought up the question of, if the plate is getting in the way, did the doctor put it in wrong? I think if it's in the way, maybe that's how it had to be put in to hold the bone together. After all, the break was way up by the shoulder. If everyone thinks I should have another operation, I want to do it sooner rather than later, since why work on getting more flexible when it'll all be undone again after the additional surgery? I may as well start over now as do it months down the road. But she thought we could wait till March and see how I progress. The first thing, though, is for her to get copies of the X-rays taken after the operation so she can see how the plate is positioned.

Also, my back has hurt since the accident, which I mentioned while I was in the emergency ward that day, and they took an X-ray of my back and found out I have a compressed vertebra. The sore back was ignored in favor of the more urgent arm problem, but now that my arm feels better, I want to address it, so the other day, the doctor gave me a prescription for the physical therapist to work on my back. I think part of the problem may also be the twisted position I had to sleep in for months while the arm was healing. The doctor thought the compressed vertebra was an old injury, since the day after the accident, I took a walk around the neighborhood, about a mile, and he said I wouldn't have been able to do this if the injury was fresh. Still, it's been made worse since the accident -- either I wrenched it or it's hurting because I'm all out of alignment from sleeping the way I did -- or both. So Tuesday, when I go back to the physical therapist, she'll evaluate the back problem, now that she has the prescription.

So nothing was decided for now, but things have been put in motion.

First I want to say I'm impressed with your therapist. Second, between you and the therapist you seem to be looking at all the options and weighing them to come to a decision as to the best way forward. You have a good analytical mind and I'm sure that will lead you to make the right choices.

Ditto! (The deer seemed to smile when eating them too!)

Yup - Awsum - well said.

I feel for anyone with back pain. I've no idea where mine started. Tumbling down the stairs @ 4; one of the million times bucked off a horse ; one of the 2 nursing home injuries? I just want to be able to do what needs doing in the house & MAYbe ride again. Oh, and be able to turn my head to see when driving. Unfortunately the chiropractor only helps a very limited amount & very short time.

The best results came from physical therapy (he specializes in myofacia tissue for chronic cases). I was doing so well til July when I lifted the power screet (sp?) when we redid a driveway.
If insurance covered massage that would help keep the cost down. This past year has been a fight with them even with a doctor's Rx. Physical work had been good in strengthening... Yesterday sure didn't help tripping & falling again tho! Call me Grace!

Awsum - you haven't said (that I saw) how the Jersey clean up is going. How are things looking "over there"? What about you? Are things somewhat back to normal in your area?

My back physical therapy will be covered by Medicare for a short while, but the arm physical therapy is covered for longer because it's post-surgical. So, go get an operation, and then your back can be treated for longer. Go figure!

One thing I was told back when I started having back trouble is to do exercises that will strengthen your core muscles. Also, these muscles are important for keeping your seat on horseback. So a while ago, I asked my physical therapist for an exercise to strengthen my core muscles. She gave me an exercise she calls a curl-up: lie on your back. Bend one knee so your foot is resting on the bed, mat, whatever you're lying on. Raise your upper body off the bed till your shoulder blades are touching, but not your head & shoulders. Be careful to keep your head up, level with your shoulders, not bent forward in an attempt to lift. The lift comes from the back/shoulders, not the head. (I got a sore neck the first week, and I was lifting my head, not my body.) Hold the lift for 8 seconds, and do it 10 times. Then do the same with the other knee bent and the leg that was just bent extended, i.e., switch sides and repeat on that side. I was amazed to find the muscles under the bottom of my rib cage straining. I always thought my core muscles were in my abdomen. Live and learn! Anyway, any of you with back problems could try this exercise. I think it helped a little. Also remember the old advice to lift things by bending your knees and letting your leg muscles help. I hope this exercise helps someone. My back was hurting when I laid flat to do some of the exercises and then had trouble rising. Since I do these right after those exercises where I lie flat, I've been able to rise pain-free.

I'm tickled that you're enjoying the photos. Here's another for your collection. Another small waterfall. We have lots of falls here.

Yes, I think waiting might be a good idea, even though I hate the thought of waiting if I do have to have another operation. I'd like to get it over with ASAP if that's the case. Still, a wait-and-see strategy is so wise that I guess I'll wait a while and see how I improve. Thanks, everyone for all the well-wishes.

Sitting down, facing forward.
Sandy, just keep working that shoulder and I'll bet it'll continue to improve. The shoulder is a very complex and delicate joint so when it gets disturbed or injured it can take a while to get back to normal.

I've found that if I don't bend and stretch daily, IE no couch potato stuff, my back gets sore an aches. If I stay active, bend, stretch, even just vacuum the rugs, no problem at all. I guess it's a use it or lose it thing. Actually, any exercise or movement/motion that requires you to maintain balance against some weight, and not a lot of weight is needed (bag of flower while making bread for example) will help strengthen the core. Everybody is different, for sure, but the basics of using those muscles in the back, abdomen, buttocks and sides will help with most back problems.

Wabbit, you and Mrs. Wabbit have a good trip, the Chief and I will try to hold up the male end here while you're gone.

Tail, bad luck on the pooter. They can be sort of like vaping, backups for backups of your backups are always a good idea (laptop, desktop and tablet).

Yes, I found this out. I used to do freelance editorial work, which meant a lot of desk time, but when that dried up due to the poor economy, I started working for Cornell Catering. Lots of physical activity there, carrying stuff, etc., and though the wages were poor, the food was good, and I felt like I was really getting into shape. Since the injury, I can't do that, so I'm taking walks around the neighborhood when the weather isn't too awful. Walking is really good for my back. Of course, housework would work, too, but I tend to avoid that till it becomes really necessary. :)

Hiya Volties!!

Wow! I finally made it through pages and pages and pages! Again - way too much to comment on. There are a few things I have to say before I get around to Blues:

Humco VG and Tractor Supply PG have both been extensively chemically tested. They are both U.S.P. and have been determined to be just fine for vaping purposes. I've been using PG from Tractor Supply for years. About 3 1/2 years actually, and I'm only a little bit crazy.

Sandy - Your photos take my breath away! Hope you are feeling better about your current situation as well.

Debra - My heart goes out to you. Hang in there girl!

Lizzie - Your Obie reminded me of my late husband. When he was little, he had to fight a billy goat in order to get to the outhouse. Every time! Imagine that.

I've forgotten a lot of other things that I wanted to comment on. My apologies. :(

NOW - Blues

This is going to be a slow recovery process. Open heart surgery (double bypass) generally is. He has a visiting nurse that comes every day. His vitals are monitored remotely. He has to rest a lot. But, his spirits are great. He's been going outside for short walks for the last couple of days to enjoy the fresh air and sounds of nature. I've been keeping him company although I can't be there physically. I'm just there for him online for now - always available when he's up to talking. He has a lot of cats that are vying for his attention that missed him terribly when he was in the hospital. A couple of the guys that work at the ranch brought two of the dogs to visit him - including his avatar dog, Bill.

It may be awhile before he makes it back to posting. Everything exhausts him right now. I know that you folks will understand. He still thinks of all of you and thanks you for your continued prayers and well wishes. I know he wants to come back to visit. He will when he can.

Now that he is home safe and sound, maybe I can relax enough to spend more time here! :D

Rave, good to hear from you. I hope you don't mind me taking this out of context, but when I read that far, I started cracking up! Then I read on that he had to fight a billy goat. Why didn't his parents do something about that? Couldn't they confine the goat somehow so the outhouse was free of attack billies?

Blues is still in all our thoughts, as I guess you read. We're also worried about Holly, who hasn't been in Voltville for a while, and last we heard, she was sick. I wish we'd get some news of her.

Meanwhile, it's good to have you back. I'm glad you're enjoying the photos.

Great to hear from you Rave. Hope you are taking care of yourself and it seems that you are on the road to recovery. We have been talking about so many things but you and Blues have been a constant on everyone's mind. Just the fact that Blues is home is a wonderful indication that he is improving. The surgery and hospitalization is behind him now. Of course, it is still a daily process that, I'm sure to him, will be slow but the bottom line is that he is getting better and will get stronger each day.

Being home is such an essential part of his recuperation and he doesn't have to eat hospital food! He is home, in a quiet and peaceful environment even with his host of animals. That is a very necessary part for him because of his love for them. They will help him heal. Thanks for the update and really hope to see you in Voltville more often, when you are really up to it of course. Take care Rave. My thoughts and prayers are continuing as always for both of you.

It's time to go do my nightly physical therapy exercises, so I'll sign off for the night. Here's another photo to say good night with.

This is a house in my neighborhood. I've always liked this place. You know how some houses or properties just appeal to you? And the magnolias go perfectly with the house's color, too, don't they?

His parents figured that he'd have to fight for a lot in his life, so they started him young. Nowadays, kids are treated like hothouse flowers. But anyhow, he did turn out to be a "tough ole bird", and loved it when folks said that about him. I had it engraved on his memorial plate because I knew he'd love that.

I got concerned when I didn't see ,Holly post too. Hope she's okay.
