Guess what I got two more friends to order starter kits today, I am all that and a bag of chips!!!!!!!
I'm back from the physical therapist. First, I asked her if she thought I was progressing normally. She said I was, and she thought I had noticed the difference myself, which I have done. Then I told her that the doctor seemed to think I hadn't progressed enough, and he mentioned another operation to remove the plate. I said if the plate is getting in the way of my shoulder movement, maybe it should come out, but if I just need to work harder at the exercises, I didn't want another operation (of course). I suggested, and she agreed, that she should view the X-rays taken after the plate was put in and see if she can determine if the plate is getting in the way, or if the surgeon just wants things perfect, and taking the plate out would be better in his mind, even if it means me going through another surgery. I think surgery is a lot more routine to him than it is to me! Also, the physical therapist said she'd try to get me the name of a good doctor to get a 2nd opinion from. This evening, a physical therapist who specializes in hands and arms is going to be there, and she's sure he'll know someone. She assured me that my surgeon is considered the best. Bill brought up the question of, if the plate is getting in the way, did the doctor put it in wrong? I think if it's in the way, maybe that's how it had to be put in to hold the bone together. After all, the break was way up by the shoulder. If everyone thinks I should have another operation, I want to do it sooner rather than later, since why work on getting more flexible when it'll all be undone again after the additional surgery? I may as well start over now as do it months down the road. But she thought we could wait till March and see how I progress. The first thing, though, is for her to get copies of the X-rays taken after the operation so she can see how the plate is positioned.
Also, my back has hurt since the accident, which I mentioned while I was in the emergency ward that day, and they took an X-ray of my back and found out I have a compressed vertebra. The sore back was ignored in favor of the more urgent arm problem, but now that my arm feels better, I want to address it, so the other day, the doctor gave me a prescription for the physical therapist to work on my back. I think part of the problem may also be the twisted position I had to sleep in for months while the arm was healing. The doctor thought the compressed vertebra was an old injury, since the day after the accident, I took a walk around the neighborhood, about a mile, and he said I wouldn't have been able to do this if the injury was fresh. Still, it's been made worse since the accident -- either I wrenched it or it's hurting because I'm all out of alignment from sleeping the way I did -- or both. So Tuesday, when I go back to the physical therapist, she'll evaluate the back problem, now that she has the prescription.
So nothing was decided for now, but things have been put in motion.
Ditto! (The deer seemed to smile when eating them too!)
Yup - Awsum - well said.
I feel for anyone with back pain. I've no idea where mine started. Tumbling down the stairs @ 4; one of the million times bucked off a horse ; one of the 2 nursing home injuries? I just want to be able to do what needs doing in the house & MAYbe ride again. Oh, and be able to turn my head to see when driving. Unfortunately the chiropractor only helps a very limited amount & very short time.
The best results came from physical therapy (he specializes in myofacia tissue for chronic cases). I was doing so well til July when I lifted the power screet (sp?) when we redid a driveway.
If insurance covered massage that would help keep the cost down. This past year has been a fight with them even with a doctor's Rx. Physical work had been good in strengthening... Yesterday sure didn't help tripping & falling again tho! Call me Grace!
Awsum - you haven't said (that I saw) how the Jersey clean up is going. How are things looking "over there"? What about you? Are things somewhat back to normal in your area?

Sorry to hear that, I also may be off line the next couple of days, heading to visit my grand children for their belated birthday. Mrs. Wabbit and I were to go last weekend, but she was not feeling well from our Xmas visit and the kids were still not 100%. I am taking my laptop, but won't be on line much.
SandySu, thanks once again for these excellent pics you've posted. I've started a new photo album for them and have one of the winter scenes up as wallpaper on my computer right now. View attachment 167856
Sorry you're down in the dumps about your arm surgery. I'm more inclined to judge by how I'm feeling/performing rather than what a dr. says. It seems you've made significant improvement because of your PT, so may I suggest a wait-and-see attitude? I am keeping you in my prayers.
Sandy, just keep working that shoulder and I'll bet it'll continue to improve. The shoulder is a very complex and delicate joint so when it gets disturbed or injured it can take a while to get back to normal.
I've found that if I don't bend and stretch daily, IE no couch potato stuff, my back gets sore an aches. If I stay active, bend, stretch, even just vacuum the rugs, no problem at all. I guess it's a use it or lose it thing. Actually, any exercise or movement/motion that requires you to maintain balance against some weight, and not a lot of weight is needed (bag of flower while making bread for example) will help strengthen the core. Everybody is different, for sure, but the basics of using those muscles in the back, abdomen, buttocks and sides will help with most back problems.
Lizzie - Your Obie reminded me of my late husband.
It's time to go do my nightly physical therapy exercises, so I'll sign off for the night. Here's another photo to say good night with.

This is a house in my neighborhood. I've always liked this place. You know how some houses or properties just appeal to you? And the magnolias go perfectly with the house's color, too, don't they?

Rave, good to hear from you. I hope you don't mind me taking this out of context, but when I read that far, I started cracking up! Then I read on that he had to fight a billy goat. Why didn't his parents do something about that? Couldn't they confine the goat somehow so the outhouse was free of attack billies?
Blues is still in all our thoughts, as I guess you read. We're also worried about Holly, who hasn't been in Voltville for a while, and last we heard, she was sick. I wish we'd get some news of her.
Meanwhile, it's good to have you back. I'm glad you're enjoying the photos.
I think that's the reflection of the magnolias on the glass that you see!![]()
