Yes we have races like that here too. Mostly on mountains because they need to be able to move easy. And mostly shorter strong horses probably because of the terrain. Example: Bucephalus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The Thessalian horses are the biggest here.
Luna is 152cm Thessalians are around 155-160cm pretty much the same.

I call them: Ancient dirt bikes :D

Bucephalus was an ancient horse. Who knows what he really looked like? They say he was black, but the oldest picture on that site shows him as bay, unless maybe the colors faded over time.

So I looked up Greek horse breeds. It seems most are rare. At http://www.theequinest.com/breeds-greece/ it looks like the Andravida is closest to the quarter horse. The racehorses I mentioned, both Thoroughbred and quarter horse, run on tracks. You know, the usual horse races. They do have endurance competitions, which are basically races of long duration over rough terrain. Arabians are the best breed for that, though there's no breed restrictions, so any breed can compete. The most famous of this endurance type of race is the Tevis Cup. See America

Yeap!
My boss has an arabian and a few other Greek ones (Including a Thessalian)
He uses the heart rate monitors on the mountains mostly because they go around 30-40km away.

Thessalians still exist but we do not use them on our terrain much.

Hey SandySu - I always wondered what an appenix quarter horse was.

I like the ancient motorcycle way better:) Kon

Luna was beautiful and what a story.
I like the ancient ones because they sometimes fart and are funny and often we touch noses for 10 minutes staring each other.

And the new ones well....
POWEEEEEEEEEEEER

If you ever rode a good, strong horse across a field at a full-out gallop, you will experience POWEEEEEEEEEEEER. I guarantee it.

While Rave was posting voice overs, I was off on a totally different tangent. I started thinking of music I like that I first read of in a book. One of my favorites is Albinoni's Adagio in G Minor. It was some sort of sci-fi book, and the protagonist kept listening to this. Here's the version I know and love: Albinoni: Adagio in G minor - YouTube

But you know how YouTube is. While you are listening to something, they have all these other tantalizing options alongside, and I noticed something I was unfamiliar with. The Doors did this, too. I was very curious, and maybe you are, too, so here it is: The Doors - Albinoni's Adagio in G Minor (Unpublished Song) - YouTube

Which version do you prefer? I have to say I like the first one, maybe just because I'm so familiar with it. I bet Debra, who loves the Doors, will prefer their version. Then again, maybe not. There's no telling till she tells us.

Keep that tissue box handy, Raynes. This one is perhaps even more poignant. But, dag, it sure has some fantastic moves!!

Rave, these videos have brought back some wonderful memories of ice dancing. I do believe Torville & Dean brought it to a new level.

Kico......congratulations on your vape anniversary!

SandySu, your pictures continue to give me such pleasure! Thank you for sharing them!

I wish I could respond to each and everyone of you but once I get caught up all I really have time for is an infrequent post and a lot of 'likes'. Don't spend as much time here on the Chit Chat thread as I'd like, but am grateful for the time I do have.
