The idea behind them being skintight is so no wrinkles form between your leg and the saddle. That can get uncomfortable if you ride for very long with bunched-up jeans making a wrinkle where your leg rests against the saddle.
I hope you don't mind me chiming in on your conversation but I couldn't resist. Lee makes a jean called Lee stretch that is very similar and not as expensive if you go to a Lee jean outlet. I bought mine by accident and they are my favorite jean,I paid $8 for them. Since they come in different colors I bought some to wear to work to.
Ariat paddock boots are a great boot for anything and very durable. My first pair lasted me 5yrs.Spray W-D40 on them and they are water repellent,plus keeps the leather soft. My paddock boots take a lot of abuse so for a boot to last 5yrs in muck is pretty good.
