Coffee and Dunkin donuts. Yeah. Thanks 1st officer.

Good MOrning Volties.

Joanne and Tail, are you guys still feeling poorly?

Going to town. Hubby is getting off early so he can go to a routine doctors appointment. Since he has to go through town on his way home from the job, we are going to meet for a quick lunch at our favorite Chinese restaurant. I think other shopping and getting a few buckets of rocks on the way home, I am officially making this my day off.

Good morning, everyone! I'm new here - think I'll stick around! :)

Welcome Cindy, stick around, but be warned this is a tough crowd! Only kidding, we joke a lot, chat a lot, compare notes on vaping and life in general. Everyone who sticks around seems to care about each other more than a lot of the other threads.

I have no idea what this has to do with welcoming you, but it is indicative of our kinder posts.

Best Wishes

TOC - TheOnlyCindy - What's not to like? Stick around, have some coffee.

1st Officer - Great that you lost weight. Good for You!

I need to call Great Basin Equine and see when they come out to do vaccinations in our area.

I need to see if they have horse shots available at the feed store. There are no actual goat shots so I am sure we have been using horse vaccines and that is probably the cheapest way to go - buy them and do them ourselves. Hubby also gives the dogs their shots. I don't like needles so I just hold them and don't look:)

For the horse I would like to have a professional check his teeth and give him his shots. They can probably tell me if he is close to the proper weight, as well.

Sitting down, facing forward.
Wabbit, you get the prize for post number 25,000 in this thread! The prize allows you to post more, LOL.

Cindy, welcome, but you're not the only Cindy, my wife's name is Cindy! We can be cantankerous, but we're usually funny or at least mildly amusing. Technical help is available on many subjects, but use it all with caution :)

It's good to have the vet out at least once a year to check your horse, but body weight can vary more often, so using this method to see if your horse is a good weight really helps. http://www.owencountyhorseandpony.c.../equine_body_condition_score_presentation.pdf A basic rule of thumb is that you can't see the ribs but you can feel them when you run your hand over the horse's sides. Of course, with lots of shaggy winter hair, sometimes the ribs can be hidden when they would show on a summer coat.

Also, it's good to discuss deworming with the vet. Do you deworm every 2 months, or are you using the latest method, which is to do fecal exams and only deworm if the horse needs it? Using fecal exams is better, because worms are becoming resistant to dewormers, and if you use them less often, only as needed, then resistance is less likely to be a problem.

We have dewormed the horse with Ivermectin. You have to be careful what product you use with miniature horses there is one product that has tight tolerances and so it is recommended that you not use it.

The goats and the dogs we deworm twice a year. The horse was dewormed when we got him and then again in the fall. Every two months seems like it is often. I haven't done the fecal look at worms as of yet. Maybe I'll talk to the vet about it.

Kon, I think you need to see a doctor. Maybe you're just not eating well, but it's worth checking out. Fainting is not good! I hope it resolves soon.

From what you have posted in the past, I certainly hope you are eating well, If any of us can help out someway, let us know, and if this does keep up you really do need to get a doctors advice.

You may want to use Zimectin Gold after the first frost in early winter to eliminate tapeworms. I think there are other brands, too, but the ingredient that gets rid of tapeworms is praziquantel, so look for that in a dewormer along with the ivermectrin. The one you have to be careful of with minis is Quest and Quest Plus, which is the kind with praziquantel in it, too, as well as moxidectin. Ivermectrin is much safer for minis than moxidectin. However, unless worms the goats have can be given to horses, you may not have to deworm much, since Wiseguy isn't around other horses to pick them up. No point in deworming more often than necessary. To do a fecal, collect a fresh ball of manure in a sandwich bag and refrigerate it until you can give it to whoever will analyze it. The vet may do this, or you can send it off to places that will. I have the address of a place in Wisconsin, if you need it. I was instructed to freeze a bottle of water and enclose that with the manure sample. Send it Priority Mail so it gets there quickly. My feed store does it for customers for free, and if you use the vets at Cornell Univ., they do it for free, too, but my vet charges. So see if you can find a place that'll do fecals, and if you can't, I can give you the address of the place in Wisconsin to mail it.

Stopping in to say hi to all the Volties!! I'm around here and there, but I'm still in lurker mode I guess. Have to let you all know how much I enjoy keeping up with the stories and pictures, the agony and the defeat, blah blah, lol. But you get the idea, great group here!!

My DIL has a doc appt. today, I am waiting to hear what her Doc says about the babies, she is begging for them to be born, NOW, poor thing. Last time I spoke to my son, he seemed a nervous wreck, hard for me to hear that but I'm trying to stay out of the way as much as possible and not make any waves. Did not get to visit with them for Easter and the dang Easter Bunny left a basket at my house for my 2 yr old grandson....sigh. It would also be SO NICE to be kept up to speed! So, maybe tomorrow I will have 3 grandsons instead of just one!

Kon, sorry to hear you are not feeling well. Take care of yourself!! Do you hold your breath when you lift? Have you ever heard of Vasovagal reflex, it may have something to do with your fainting spells. Of course, if that kind of thing keeps happening, you have to try to get to the doctor. It could be so many things, nutrition, hydration and circulation come to mind.

Hope you are all having a great Tuesday, wherever you are, whatever mischief you are up to! :)

The snow that fell overnight is nearly gone now, but it's cold & windy today. A good day to stay inside and do some housework. The place really needs vacuuming.

Here's a photo I hope will lift everyone's spirits. I saw this face in the trunk of a tree.

IMG_0007_2_zpsa87f5a59.jpeg

Others must have seen tree faces, too, because I've seen things you can put on your trees to make faces. I'm sure a tree like this gave someone the idea. I prefer the real faces to the ones people put on trees.

Just stopped in to say good morning/afternoon Volties! Hope everyone has a great day. Beautiful sunshine but cold and windy out.

Q... can't wait to hear details about those new grandbabies, pics would be nice too. ;)

Kon... you really should see a doctor about those blackouts... not a good sign.

Sandy... the face in that tree looks like a Chameleon.

I'm on my way for my CT scan this afternoon and hopefully will stop back in later. ;)
