Behind you
So when I sit back and see the lack of motivation and apathy in my son it makes me feel like I've failed somehow. Then I look at most of the other 18 year olds out there and they are the same way. Most all of them expect everything just to be handed to them. :(

You can't compete with the entitlement education kids are being fed. You're doing what you can now. He'll notice you still work hard, the genetic memory will kick in eventually, .. he'll find his way. -Magnus

ours never really cared, that I know of ...it was always an issue tho.
since they have both our last names , but ours are different .

Yes, Rhianna likes her last name and has announced, since that outburst, that if we do get married, she's keeping her last name--which is just both our names, hyphenated.

yup that's what happened to ours too , we did get the hyphen removed when we were dealing with the youngest ones BC at the beginning tho . luckily I had paisley's BC w/me so they fixed hers too.
so now it looks more like their middle names .

I hyphenated them intentionally. V's dad was kinda gettin' in a slump because the "family name is going to die out." I can understand that feeling, though I can only extend it one generation. But My first name is my mother's maiden name, just throwing a name in there without combining it somehow or hyphenating it, just seems like another middle name to me (and she already had one of those. Besides, Graves-Powell is sorta classy--like a couple of peasants rising up into the landed gentry

*chin quivers* I want my baby to be awake now. Thanks for all the pictures, retrospectives, warnings, and tips! -Magnus

Magnus, hubby and I decided early on that when we need one close, we get them. Kids love to be woken up for a good snuggle. Then they get to sleep in mom and dads bed.
Our logic is: we made em, we love em, lets show em!

I think my children were sent from my mom. Her revenge.

But they are SOOO lovable mostly. How can you get mad when they're only trying to do what they see you do? Its not their fault they didnt have paper so wrote a love note on their bed!
So the dog eats crayons they leave all over- its easy to clean the yard when you see bright colors!
Who doesnt like snow and confetti when the puppy kills a stuffed toy and pulls pictures off the fridge?
Or has to remake the bed 3 times a day when they use all blankets and sheets to make a tent(I love listening to them giggle under the covers).
Or when grandpa drops them off after a day of sugar and they run around laughing for hours....
Or ....

My mom cursed me with the line "I hope when you have kids, they will be just like you were!".
For my better-half's 25th birthday present I paid half of her "getting fixed" as she puts it.
That giggling thing and the screaming would send me psycho....I can barely tollerate it for a couple minutes.

(THIS IS A JOKE - so don't get offended!)
What is the best way to keep a child tender and sweet?
350 degrees for 2 hours, flip, baste and another hour!

Good morning.

Another lazy day - going to work tonight.

We can only do so much with our kids - it's up to them to find their way. I don't care how much money, education, time, love etc - they have to choose what their path will be. Thankfully most of the time they get second, third or even 4th (or more) chances to figure it out. But neglect and abuse put them behind the curve to begin with. :-(
