My kids schools went to dress codes starting in 5th grade- my oldest was in 4th at the time, and I TRIED to fight it- but all the other sheeple were afraid to upset the school board- the next year he had to wear the uniform or 'standardized dress' as they call it.... - he was miserable. said he felt like he looked like Barney Fife... They had to wear kahki pants, green, white, black or grey polo shirts, and single color tennis shoes or dress shoes.

With Brett being the one who went, it wasnt too bad, BUT, I knew it would KILL Matt- he wears overalls, and his jeans tucked in his boots, and is sooo country. heck it was hard for Brett- we didnt even OWN a pair of kahki pants. seriously.

I knew it would KILL Rayley- she dresses like punky brewster on crack. Always wearing tights and hose that are bright and funky- with shorts, skirts, whatever- and has pink stripes in her hair- that she teases up in a 60's ish do- , and wears boots and shorts, and tutu's over her jeans, and ugg boots with sweat pants.

Our school cut out the colorful hose, and no jewerly, and no fun bows in their hair- NOTHING to make them look different or to be themselves, or feel like a normal person.

that was the straw that broke the camels back- I withdrew them and refuse to send them back. LOL

Good for you!! I hated uniforms. The lack of individuality in a private school is acceptable- you know when you sign up for a paid service, its part of the deal. But when you attend a public school, there is no acceptable reason to make kids into cookie cutter molds. As a teacher, I feel it sends children the wrong message "conform or you dont belong" as well as the whole "flock or herd mentality". If you want them all to act alike, look alike, and do what the other does, thats fine, but I want my children to THINK about what is presented to them. I want them to UNDERSTAND a concept, not memorize it and forget it. Its one thing to limit excessive or outrageous clothes/makeup/perfume etc... Its quite another thing to ban it. Town hall and PTA meeting here I come- My 5 yo starts her first day of school in just 2 weeks!

My daughter figures ways around it and I back her up.They say solid color bottoms. She wears pink tights and a pink tutu type skirt. They call and I say,What rule does it break???Then she wears striped multi colored high knee socks. Is there a sock rule?? I say.She gets around it somewhat.Add the new blue stripes in her hair and she looks plenty different enough.LOL!

Our grade school tried to implement a solid colored socks rule for the girls - but even the teachers refused to enforce it. I get the "uniformity" thing to an extent - and from the mom front love the lack of drama over what to wear - but socks for goodness sake?! As long as they aren't obscene why worry about it. Was glad when the board backed down.

Thankfully they're fairly reasonable MOST of the time.

Our high school got rid of uniform skits for girls - pants only now - because of the drama over length. lol I remember rolling the waist band up when I was in school. As long as someone is setting boundaries, kids will push them. At least the smart ones will ;-)

I've already decided that charter schools are going to be our bet for junior high and high school. Uniforms are useful i places with BIG gang problems, but I live in a town that has had exactly 1 drive-by, and no one was even outside for it. The damage was a dented garage door. This is not a place in need of controlling gang colors. I like the class size of charter schools anyway.

Thanks to Clay and Chelle for the recommendation of KBV Hummingbird Nectar. I bought a 15ml to try and it's almost gone. Guess I'll have to actually open the other flavor, Crisp Cola, that I ordered and try it, since they are closed for a couple days. This was the 3rd vendor that I've ordered cola from, I hope this is the one that I like.

I did like the sample of snickerdoodle from Pure Vapes but it's not up on the website yet. More stuff to order....

Good morning PIF.

Good Morning-

Trying to decide if I should do a martathon cleaning on the house, call the AC guy (I guess I need freon- I have done everything else....) and THEN go to town, OR what.

I dread going to town at midday- its SOOOO hot- but I really do need a cleanish house to call out the AC guy-

If I could trust my kids more I'd have THEM clean while I went to town. But they aint got enough sense to do it right- They will do it wrong on purpose- the ...... havent fiqured out that I make them REDO it every time, AND add another chore... LOL

Our school had said for years "must wear a belt, no saggy pants, no middrifts showing etc" But THEY couldnt control it. They were scared to. SO they decided to punish everyone. I BEGGED people to stand up. They implemented the rule 3 weeks before school started a few years ago- everyone had already BOUGHT school clothes.

Noone had the guts to stand up to them. and whats sad is, my kids dress VERY conservative. One of them doesnt even own tennis shoes. Rayley, for all her colors and skirts and funky clothes, covers up more skin than a 60 year old going to church does.
None of us even wear shorts in public, except Rayley, and usually she has on knee high boots or cowboy boots with them, and most times it petal pushers and not really shorts.

They said they wanted 'professional buisiness attire' ... uhhhh they are KIDS. I let Rayley color her hair the last 3 days in kindergarten, They like to have DIED. they wouldnt allow it now for anything in the world. I wonder if they are going to allow all the girls to wear feathers in their hair.???
