When my girl was that age we had to do no sugar after dinner,a warm bath and snuggly pjs, and lie down on the couch and watch a quiet video tape or read a calm story before bed.She usually fell asleep during the video or story. She needed quiet time to unwind or she would get wound up and cranky. Then it was a fight.

Overtired will do it- and so will chocolate and lots of sugar-

Mine were bouncing off the walls-

I went from one of those "sugar does NOT affect my kids, Stop being so silly and .... about everything" type moms to a "DO NOT GIVE MY KID ANYTHING wtih SUGAR, OR CAFFINE in it- unless you want me to come find you at 2am..." moms...

After trying many things, this is what finally worked for my daughter. "Farran, you have 15 minutes until bed. I'm setting the timer on the microwave." She would fight me and stall and do everything she could to avoid bed until I found the timer trick. I kid you not, when that timer went off, she would stop whatever she was doing and go to bed. It was like magic. I don't know why.. maybe because it was the timer and you can't argue with a timer like you can with mom? Anyway, it worked.

I am not a mom, but I play one at home. pchela's little trick has been working wonders for us for everything since I tried it about three years ago. She would fight going to bed, or coming inside, or time to leave grandma's or whatever. But once we started "compromising" by letting her know before hand how much time she had left she actually stops on her own when the "timer" (whatever it may be) goes off.

And audiobooks and/or music of her choice at bedtime gets her to sleep almost instantly rather than laying there (sometimes for hours) keeping herself awake...

OK, I set the timer on the stove. I told the child, "Livi, when you hear the beep in 20 minutes, it's time to brush teeth and get ready for bed." She said, "Oh. OK." I thought  Really??? That's it?? Awesome! So, timer set, we all three watched a 20 minute "My Pretty Pony" and noone spoke...just quiet, ponies and snuggle with Mommies. Beth took her up...she brushed her little teeth, got her pull-up on and then Beth read to her and tucked her in. She got up a couple times, said EVERYTHING "Scared, pee, drink, hungry, can't sleep." We just put her back on her bed, hugs, kisses, leave. She got up again...went in the bathroom....and drank Dora SoftSoap. OMG! Really???? Once I looked up everything possible on injesting soap and realized she wasn't going to die, I gave her milk and bread and we watched her for 30 minutes and put her back in bed...she dropped right off. Lesson here: Give em soap! One shot of soap will knock em out appartently! FFS!

Beth put her in our bed just now and is sleeping with her in case she wakes up sick to her stomache, but I don't think she's going to. I'm dreading going to bed cause the baby flops around like a fish out of water when she sleeps. I end up getting beaten. :glare:

Good grief. No, we won't be having any more children!
