Welcome to the chit chat thread.
It wasn't just you by the way - there is way too much off topic chat lately in all the threads. People don't realize its a PITA for mods when there is random chat in threads that we need to watch. I know its hard to believe but some of us have real lives we try to keep up with too.

random chit-chat ahead:

I bought an ice cream maker. Why didn't I think of this before? We spend tons of money on sugar free ice cream for our type 1 diabetic, who needs to gain weight. Then you add in a serious fro-yo (expensive frozen yogurt) addiction and it's insane. I just made 15 bucks worth of fro-yo for 2.99.

shannon- general, specific, whatevah!

DS got his act scores back today (he took the one "with" writing) He's disappointed - I'm not lol. He'll take it again in June since the ones after that are in Sept and Oct and he'll be running cross country.

Any opinion on whether he should take the SAT? He's our oldest - and we're feeling a little lost. lol

Cool didn't want to indavertantly break a rule... this may sound odd but I have a new kitten he's male and he's pure white... and I was thinking of naming him something that went along with my new habbit/hobby... I was wondering if anyone here at PIF would want to help me name himm... :)

How about VYPR?

study is not in the boy's vocabulary. He took a help session at school - 4 different sessions - one for each major section and one for overall test taking - he drew cartoons and then came home and scanned them into his computer and animated them. Glad it was free. (face palm)

I think he'll take it more seriously - he was planning on taking the ACT twice no matter what - but he wants to major in Computer Engineering so competition for spots will be tough and we need him to get scholarship $$ - we can help, but can't pay it all and would hate to see him crippled by debt before he even got out - and don't think it's a good idea to alternate in and out of school to work and pay as he goes - working part time is fine - but one semester on then off or one year on and then off...I don't think he'd do well that way. Plus one one school in driving distance that offers it - and it's in another state. So dorming will be added to the expense.

Has he taken the PSAT/NMSQT?
(The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is a test that allows you to practice for the SAT and gives you a chance to enter the competition for scholarships from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.)

I'd suggest contacting your local library and ask if they subscribe to the "Testing and Education Reference Center" database and if it's accessible from home or just on site at the library. The TERC offers access to ebooks on taking college tests. They also offer timed online practice tests. They have the ACT, PSAT, SAT and even the grad school test ebooks. Which ever tests he takes, the books and practice tests will help.

If your local library doesn't subscribe to the TERC database, let me know. I still have access to databases :)

The Testing and Education Reference Center information:
Taking a college entrance or licensing exam? Looking for a college or graduate school? Need help finding scholarships? Use this database to search thousands of college and graduate school entries. Identify scholarships that meet their financial needs. Take on-line practice tests and use test prep eBooks to obtain your education goals.
