I'm in week 2 of the same thing! lol

According to my PT I'm being treated as if I have a herniated disk - but the MRI is over $1000. The treatment is the same except if the pain continues they may move onto steroid shots (per my Dr) or even surgery (pretty sure they won't need to in my case)
I did have an xray to confirm the vertebrae is not damaged or obvious tumor - but not an mri which looks at soft tissue.

I do my exercises every day (several times because I'm suppose to) and it is helping. My Dr also has be taking a ton of ibuprofen (I have no medical conditions that prevent this) and I'm feel much, MUCH better. Still hurts if I stand too long or sit too long, but nothing like it was. I just wish I'd gone to the Dr sooner instead of waiting for months.

Herniated discs usually respond to steroid treatments, but not always. I had multiple injections but my problems were a combination of a grade 5 annular tear, multiple disc herniations and some compression. Combine all that with my discs being "dry", I required surgery after some big ruptures that pinched nerves. Discectomy (sp?) was the recommended course and both were pretty quick. One of the herniations was one of the largest my doctor ever saw, he was amazed I was walking around. He's one of the best back doctors in my area. It took over 15 years for my problems to get solved, hope it doesn't take that long for you. I also had to go through a provocative discogram (extremely painful) in order to diagnose the grade 5 tear. To put that into laymans terms, think of the disc as a donut (mmMMm donuts) and the center part is where this jelly sits (mmMmm jelly donuts). Tears (small cuts in the disc) are graded from 1-5. Grade 5 is a tear from the center all the way out. Grade 1 is a small little nick or cut. Both of my surgeries were in my lower back, L5-S1 and L4-L5.
