well $135 later my kitty has a uti. Funny thin is, it's just as expensive to take my kids to the Dr but the vet includes the antibiotic. And in 2 weeks they have their annual check ups.

Poor kitty has been traumatized by the experience lol. Well, at least we hope we got the right kitty - I didn't witness the culprit but am guessing I'm right. You should have seen his brother welcome him home - snif snif snif, lick.

Dark: (and any other kitty lovers): I've been reading a lot lately about kitties and their diets. Seems it's better to feed them wet food because they need lots of water. The dry food takes all the water they need out of their diets. Hence, the boys tend to get UTI's (2 of my 3 get them) If you do switch to canned food only, make sure that water is the first ingredient, and then look for real meat (not the by-products) as the second ingredient.
Also note: when I tried to switch my boys over completely, -though they would do ANYTHING for their 'nummies',- they were constantly Yeowing at me for food.. they missed the regular bowl of crunchies. So I had to compromise and I now feed them the nummies/wet food in the morning and night (not too much or one of them leaves me prezzies) and then leave some dry kibble for when they feel the need to 'munch'.

HTH!

Boy kitties are prone to UTI's because when they are fixed, it narrows the urethra. I feed my cats only Science Diet Premium cat food because it doesn't contain anything they don't need (no fillers) and makes them poop less. It is also formulated to prevent UTIs in cats and since I switched (some 20 years ago) I haven't had a male cat get a UTI. It is a little more expensive, but I think it's well worth it just to have less kitty poop. Here's a link to the homepage: Science Diet: Healthy Pet Food for Cats and Dogs | Hill's Pet Nutrition

I went to the doctor about my back pain... they want me to do 4 weeks of physical therapy.... if I am still in pain after that they want to order an mri... seems kinda odd to me they want to try to treat it with physical therapy before they know whats wrong... I was curious what you guys and gals thought about it.

I've had two back surgeries in the last two years. I've had 6 MRIs, probably a dozen XRays, years of PT, dozens of steroid injections, etc etc etc

I could tell you probably everything your doctor is going to tell you. Fact is, a lot of back problems are due to improper muscle development. This can usually be remedied by PT. Another fact is, while two people may have the same exact back condition/defect, one may be in pain and the other not.

Give me some idea of the symptoms and some history.... Otherwise, I'm just shooting in the dark.

I'm in week 2 of the same thing! lol

According to my PT I'm being treated as if I have a herniated disk - but the MRI is over $1000. The treatment is the same except if the pain continues they may move onto steroid shots (per my Dr) or even surgery (pretty sure they won't need to in my case)
I did have an xray to confirm the vertebrae is not damaged or obvious tumor - but not an mri which looks at soft tissue.

I do my exercises every day (several times because I'm suppose to) and it is helping. My Dr also has be taking a ton of ibuprofen (I have no medical conditions that prevent this) and I'm feel much, MUCH better. Still hurts if I stand too long or sit too long, but nothing like it was. I just wish I'd gone to the Dr sooner instead of waiting for months.

Clay - I hadn't read your post before I posted - they think mine was a hip injury that I didn't allow to heal and then in compensating for the hip injury I irritated my back...all of my exercises are to strengthen my lower core muscles. When I first went, my right leg appeared to be shorter than my left - now they are even and holding! In only 2 weeks!
