And thus dinner was decided upon... gotta run to the dock and get some fresh crab. BBIAB. -Magnus

I had even a better idea... order from Billy's and have it delivered to the dock instead. All while I vape comfortably in my chair. I think I need an Evil Genius chair soon. Hrmm.

I'm brain-storming for another contest and I'm having trouble w/ the prize(s) this time.... MustangSallie suggested that as part of the entries the entry specifies, if they won, whether they would want:

1) Just one Grand Prize, a custom mod from a specified vendor or two and they choose the options

2) A Top Prize of a starter kit and some nicquids, and two other winners of some nicquids

3) Or matching prizes for the top three of nicquids while the Top gets some random accessories thrown in

Does that sound reasonable or overly complex to ask for an entry and prize structure? Thoughts? -Magnus

Sounds a lot like a social experiment to see how many people would choose to "lessen" their prize in order to 'share the wealth.' If you had some way to add in a control element to be able to determine who actually wanted to see three people win lesser prizes and who chose that option on the assumption that perceived altruism would increase their chances of winning, you'd probably have a publishable study ;)

The only problem I see with having people choose the prize structure as part of their entry is the level of attention people seem to pay to the instructions in contests. Remember your haiku contest and how many people couldn't count syllables even after being reminded (more than once) what defines "haiku"?

Ultimately, it's up to you. I do think the "winner determines the prize structure" concept is unique...

I agree with Pwyll about the importance of instructions and the seemingly lack of ability to follow them displayed by far too many people. The simplest thing for you would be to specify the prizes up front but it is you who will have to put up with any weirdness so it all depends on what you're willing to endure. If you're curious about what people would choose, and whether they'd choose what's best for the group, go for it. I'll admit to being curious. But, I do think it would be harder for you that way as opposed to offering a specific prize with no choice for the winner. BTW - you're so freaking cool!

Exactly. And Exactly. I like the idea but I felt bad, and some people did PM me embarrassed, that they didn't grasp the haiku or instructions. Hrmm. -Magnus

I'm going to be asking for banners and badges that would be released under Copyleft w/ a theme that would help encourage "switchers" for use in quit smoking forums, on stickers, and w/ QR codes. Get people over to the ECF Switching sub-forum. And the more I think about it, the more I think I'd do one Grand Prize for this contest. And for the October one do something more distributed. Although the Vermillion pool expanded to twelve people which was too much.

A mod for all types and sizes. Hog? I'd do the GRIP because of my love but I trust Bianca and Bianca isn't convinced it's a good size. Hrmm. I have a few nights to think before starting to make arrangements. And it'll be an August contest. -Magnus
