I worked at a daycare once that was run out of a woman's home. Her husband was up in the attic one day making all kinds of noise and the kids decided there was a monster up there. There was one girl who was particularly...um...obstreperous. So the owner came up with idea to make her timeouts on the attic stairs. It worked, and at 18 I thought it was a brilliant plan. I'm really not sure how I feel about it now...

if you don't have inquisitive pets or very young children, Boric Acid works wonders on ants. just dust a little along baseboards and in places you think they might be entering the house

I have borax along the one wall, seems like they found a way behind the cupboards and are coming up between the stove and cupboard. I have to get DH to pull the stove out so I can get along that side and behind it.

Remind her of her older brother Charley. If she says she doesn't remember him, smile vaguely and explain to her that that's exactly what you're talking about.

Sometimes it helps :)

LOL- yep, I tell them there used to 5 of them ;-)

LOVE the 'alex an der' story!!!
I am STILL laughing!!

and yeah- as a parent I think its pretty brilliant to put her on the stairs.. I am a firm believer in finding SOMETHING the kids are scared of to threaten them and scare the crap out of them with.

Unfortunatly, my kids are scared of VERY few things. the Big boys are scared of the dark- but if they can have a gun in their hand they will go anywhere and do anything. Hence the snake killing that takes place at least 2 or 3 nights a week. Bow is scared of coyotes, but that just means he wont go outside after dark by himself- which is a good thing- cause he is the type that will just decide to go outside whenever and play. and Bertha sue.... I aint sure what she is scared of. other than me taking away her shoes or pocket knife....

My BIL has a master's in Psychology and is involved in counseling and family services. When ever things are getting a little too tense with family issues (don't ask, my MIL is drama prone) he'll throw in a "and tell us how that makes you feel". It almost always works to diffuse the situation. Now if we can get him to throw the tissues we'd be rolling!

(He's actually very good at what he does and has been a good resource. I'm NOT making fun of counseling.)

1. Put the boric acid in a squeeze bottle (like the ketchup/mustard bottles for picnic tables).
2. Drill a small, unobtrusive hole in the wall, perhaps inside a cabinet, just big enough for the tip of the squeeze bottle.
3. Put the tip of the bottle in the hole and squeeze the crap out of it in short, sharp pulses.

Spoken like a true pro! Seriously boric acid is probably the best ant and roach killer ever discovered. I've used it a lot over the years and it has never failed me. *knock on wood*

Whu is unemployment withholding my payments?? I'm scared that I'm now in the zero cash club! It says my claim was approved and shows what I should have available....but no payments last week or this week~!!!

I, like so many others live week to week, and I have obligations than need paid. I'm looking at having to give back the computer, washer and dryer and TV since I cant swing the payments.

I've rounded up all my used cartos to test and see if they still work before trying my first attempt at carto cleaning. Trying to evaluate my stash to see if I have anything worthy of selling.

I've been pretty stressed today, just had to have a little vent~!

If it's anything like it was when I was laid off in the late eighties, it takes "four weeks to process and two weeks to mail;" so your first unemployment check takes a month to a month and a half to arrive after you've been approved :(

To add insult to injury, my (then) wife and I were living week to week and everyone at my place of employment was laid off with the news "the IRS seized our bank account last week so we can't pay you." No income, no money and no food. We applied for "emergency food stamps" and were told that I made too much money. It was explained to me that when my unemployment check arrived in six weeks, it would be dated for that week, so they considered it income at that time...

yeah I can't get food stamps either because I live with my mom and she gets 'too much' from her disability benefits.

I have been collecting UI since April no problem until I had to file my extension and now they're draggin their feet.

There are NO jobs available around here and my vehicle needs repairs that I can't afford before I would be able to look for jobs in other cities.

I do lead a semi-charmed like so I'm guessing things will work out but ATM we have no $$, no food, no car and it looks like the TV and computer will be next. If I disappear you'll know why.

Could you have a garage sale? Offer to babysit for anyone? Offer to have a garage sale for your neighbors and get paid with a "cut" if the take/sale? My friend does this. She has a huge garage sale every summer and rounds up the neighbor's stuff - they bring it tagged with masking tape with their initials on it. As it sells, she removes the tag and puts it on a piece of paper with what it actually sold for and then when it's over she gets 20% of the sale price. The tagged paper gives her a way to track who sold what.

Contact a food pantry or some churches. With your mom's health issues you really need to have a working car.

Why do they lump your income with your mom's? You're not her dependent nor she yours? You're really just roommates sharing a home. I'd double check on that one. I know our social services are overwhelmed right now, but check again.

I'm both excited for Friday and dreading it. We're leaving on Friday for a family vacation with the whole fam damily. My parents left yesterday to visit with my brother and his family for a few days before heading to the beach. My sister and her family leave today (they're flying) and will spend a couple of days in Clearwater 1st. They're using frequent flyers points and had an issue with weekend arrival and departures vs points - so they went early and are using Holiday Inn points for the 3 days in Clearwater.

We leave Friday and drive straight through we think. Depends on when DH can get off work on Friday. He has a 9am meeting.

I have so much I have to do before Friday! lol

The neighbor's kid is coming over to learn how to feed the cats and we're leaving disposable cat litter boxes so she doesn't have to clean them. Just replace them everyday. I know, I know, not eco-friendly. But she's never had a cat and it's the best solution for the both the cats and cat-sitter.

I'm really looking forward to the beach and time with the Hubs and kids. Not so sure about my sister and SIL - we tend to rub each other wrong after a couple of days. lol Our parenting styles are so different and we're all very strong women with strong opinions.
