Several years ago Beth and I put a patio in front of our deck steps. Each paver was 42 pounds  They dropped these off on a pallet in our driveway...and we had to move them to the back ourselves. So, we laid the patio, then I decided we didn't do it good enough and insisted we pick them all up again and do it over  24 of them. 42 pounds each. And I wonder why my body is falling apart. :glare:

Don't mention grass, that just reminds me I need to get the new cart and order a couple yards of topsoil :)

(Fenced backyard is where the dirt's needed, have to get it dumped in the front. I should see if the pooches want to play dogsled-haulers.)

Last couple of years I hand-mixed several tons of concrete per Summer for home projects, plus helped a buddy on things at his camp. A lot of foundation columns and walkways for gazebo, sunroom, deck, garden area,...

I'm a huge believer in pre-cast, just haven't had enough cases where I can use it. (Wifie likes to do little drawings in the walkways, pet names, etc. :) )

I need to get top soil and mulch dumped. No room between the houses to let a truck back. Thankfully DS#1 is freakishly strong ;-) even though he looks like a scare crow!

he's whining in the other room about his AP cal teacher is RUINING his spring break - she sent home a 3 hour practice AP exam. I keep reminding him - if he does well it'll save him money!! (Especially since we paid the $87 for the exam already! - one of 5 he's taking next month!!)
Waaaa - shut up, set the timer and get to work on the 1st section.

Poo on AP exams! I missed the score by 1 point. Thankfully I was still able to bypass English 101 in college based simply on the fact that I took AP English and my grades were good  Kinda wished I had tried AP Calculus though. College Algebra kicked my azz. I had great grades in high school. Made a C and D in college algebra 1 and 2  It didn't help that neither instructor spoke English very well. The only students who excelled in those classes were math majors. Those of us just taking it as a requirement for our majors all did poorly. I shoulda had a tutor :glare: Ah well, I still got a master's degree out of it

Daisy - you might need to point that out to the Principal! lol I'm sure if s/he, you and the teacher put your heads together you can come up with a different plan.

DS#1's teacher put a desk right in the front all by itself. No friends to talk to etc.

We had threatened him with one of us attending school him all day if he didn't straighten out and fly right. Told him that we'd tell his classmates we were there because he couldn't behave and needed a babysitter. Oddly enough, he only had a couple more minor issues. That and sitting in a chair facing the wall while we all were watching TV (which he'd been grounded from) seem to work.

Different things work for different kids. And if (by any chance) your kiddlet is adhd, sometimes what worked today won't work tomorrow! UGH - Not my kid, but a dear friend's. She had to change things all the time, because her daughter would decide she liked the "punishment".

We had a Principal at our 1st school who gave candy when you came to the office. No matter why you were sent, you got to pick a piece. (face palm) She was a complete marshmallow. Thankfully it was only pre-school - 3rd grade.

Heck, I'm still afraid to go to the Principal's office.

The principal does know this. He is an amazing educator. He has set it up now so that ds gets to come down and play on the computer for 20 minutes at the end of the day if he behaves all day. I think he probably is ADHD, so we use many of the tools for that. I just don't like the label, like it's a disease or something, so I speak with his teacher every year about it, and we work that way. The LAST thing ds needs is an excuse for his behavior that the school system will make for him. Luckily, for the most part, I have gotten nothing but support from the school in this way of doing things. :)

As the parent of an ADHD child I can tell you that it is over diagnosed. The truth is that while kids may have adhd tendencies it is also part of growing up. Most schools know how to work with adhd children, the important thing is to meet with them and set up a IEP that makes sense and allows the child to get the most out of school without drawing undue attention to the child or "giving them excuses" for bad behavior.

My daughter was on meds for about 8 years and has finally reached the stage where we were able to take her off the meds. It has been a bit of a rollercoaster as far as her grades, but she is starting to learn to knuckle down and focus. She still needs a little extra attention (tutoring) and she is given a quiet place to work when it is time for the standardized tests but that is all she requires now.

The key is to maintain a united front with the school and make sure that your child understands that ADHD is not something that they should use a a crutch and that it can be overcome.

It is WAY over diagnosed, and that's part of the reason I have avoided getting some magic label for the way he is. The school psychologist was pressing the issue a bit last year, but after having spent more time with ds this year he thinks that is the wrong "diagnosis". I was worried more about after elementary school, but he tested into the gifted program here and that opens up a LOT more opportunities for tailored education in our town. The woman in charge of the district gifted program is totally enamored with him and is already working on the long term for his education. Everyone seems to agree with me that it's the "ADHD" people who change the world, so why would I want to repress that. He just needs to be taught how to make it work for him, instead of against him. The only real issue we have is when he doesn't like his teacher. Then all hell breaks loose. For the most part I make him stick through it. This year is hard though because his original teacher was a total troll. After the third time she made ME cry I pulled him from her class. Unfortunately, all of the 4th grade teachers back the original teacher, or something, so he spends most of his time working of 4th grade stuff in his 3rd grade teacher's room. She is a wonderful woman, and used to teach 4th grade, so hopefully he won't be too behind next year. We're probably going to have to work on some math over the summer. Luckily, he's bright enough to catch up, as long as I can get him to focus and not freak out about it.

Another decent bedtime for Livi! She fights like hell going up the stairs and cries all the way to book time, but settles down for the books. She wasn't asleep when Beth left the room but she still stayed put and didn't cry at all...she's out like a light. OMG, this is awesome!!

Thank you all for your help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The timer, the quiet time on the couch before the timer goes off, the "no more drink, food, anything after timer", the no arguing, the remain calm on the outside, earlier bed time....it's all working! I love you guys so much!

Child wasn't up long last night, thankfully! We all got some rest. :D She had school today. We made her a "picnic" lunch before we picked her up, and took some bread along as well and after we got her, we all went to feed the ducks, geese and aquatic turtles at our little neighborhood pond. Was a bit chilly/windy, but fun. :) Beth is still a bit coldish, but feeling a bit better. Liv and I are watching some ridiculous cartoon, but she's enjoying it. Nice day here...hope the same for all of you!!

This probably is not going to be much help to you but there was a thread about this somewhere a few months ago. A guy found a person selling a how to/beginners guide to vaping information booklet on Craigslist for around $15.00 and wanted to know what people thought. The answers were about half and half of people saying no way and others saying if they had info in one place that told them the basic info they needed to start vaping when they started they would gladly have spent the money.

So, if I were to say, write a book about vaping... like, a section on basics, how vaping works, a section on mods... etc... do you think there is a market for that? I started one but keep second guessing myself.

Thanks Prism - I was at a vaping store the other day and they were so busy - and though they sell juice and e cig kits, most of their time was spent answering basic questions... it made me think - a user manual, a real one, with all of the information in one place, might be great for new people. We forget when we talk about vaping that most of what we say would go over the heads of new users. Even basic terms we use daily like atty's, pv's etc... I had no clue when I started. I learned by research and watching videos and talking to people here. So, I thought, maybe I should write a book. I can write, I don't have a job currently, and it seems like something that might be useful. But, I wanted opinions. I also considered writing a history of vaping for users who aren't new - thought it could be interesting.

BTW - $15??? That's crazy!
