Question?

I have some cartos I had used numerous times and all had that burnt taste to them. I had tried boiling them but still that burnt taste lingered/wouldn't go away. I was ready to throw them all out when I thought (what the Hell) let me try peroxide on them.

What I did was put them in a container with peroxide (all end caps and washers removed) and swirled them around in it for a few minutes. Once done with the swirl trick I then took them out and ran them under hot tap water - blew them out - then stood them up (open end down) on a paper towel. Kinda forgot about them to be honest...Anyway two days pass I thought (oh yeah) let me test those cartos. Grabbed one and blew out any leftover water/peroxide that might be in it. Filled it up with juice and took some puffs. There was no more burnt taste! TH and vapor production still good.

So my question is? Does anyone know if peroxide is a good means of cleaning? I haven't used any of the cartos yet (other than my initial puff test).

I'm assuming your using Hydrogen Peroxide. What % of H2O2 are you using?

I know some people that believe that Hydrogen Peroxide is as good for you as Mother's Milk. I know other that consider it to be one of the worst toxins a person could ingest.

My thoughts are Cartos a very Cheap and I can refill them many times before tasting bad. The carto I'm vaping right now has been refilled at least 15 times.

So if I can use something for 15 days or so that costs about $2, I've gotten enough life out of it and chuck it.

Bah! If it works use it! Plenty of toothpaste, mouthwash, etc. have decent amounts of peroxide in them and they dont harm anyone. I have an uncle that is a dentist and he has told me since i was a kid that toothpaste is all taste and doesn't do much for whitening. Just use a cap-full of peroxide. Always worked for me =D Beside how much could seriously be left over after a rinse or two??

I don’t think the OP questions had to do with the merits of rinsing ones mouth out with Hydrogen Peroxide. I believe it had more to do with the potential hazard of putting Vaporized Hydrogen Peroxide into a persons lungs.

Just like water is essential to human life, if you put 12 ounces in your lungs, you might just go into Cardiac Arrest.

There is also the question as to what Hydrogen Peroxide does to the filling material, seals and metal alloy components of a Cartomizer?

The concept of vaping is taking a liquid compound / mixture, vaporizing it using heat and then putting it into your lungs. There are sometimes subtle chemical changes when heat is applied to a compound and chemical bonds are broken.

I would still like to know what percentage of Hydrogen Peroxide the OP used.

Had to go home for lunch so I looked at the bottle.
Active ingredient: Hydrogen Peroxide (stabilized) 3%.............First aid antiseptic/Oral debriding agent

note: I'm only interested in these because I ordered 25 cartos but they haven't arrived yet...just trying to buy a little time till they arrive.

Thanks for any info provided.

Adding a little bleach (about 30% of the combined) to the hydrogen peroxide (any %), augments the cleaning ability. It fizzes much more. Leave room for the fizz. Be sure to wash/blow out when done. You are essentially combining oxidizers. Works for cartos and atties to get the old flavor out. And kills germs!

Note: For cartomizers, I do a condom rinse with the peroxide first then place into a small cup then pour some more peroxide then add the bleach then swirl.

For atties just rinse with water the place into a small cup with peroxide then add bleach.

In both cases, rinse/blowout well when done. Atties can be used right away and cartomizers should be dried at least over night.

3% should be fine. The reason I asked was that you can get MUCH higher percentages of H2O2 which are not meant to be used as oral rinses or for minor cuts and scraps.

High percentage H2O2 can be used as liquid rocket propelents.

This weekend I tried the 3% Hydrogen Peroxide on two Cartomizers I was having taste issues with but it didn't seem to help. FWIW, first, I rinsed them thoroughly with plain water to get all the old fluid out of them, blowing them out several times and reverse spinning them. Then I flushed them with H/P by sucking it through them from both ends and letting them sit in H/P for a few hours. Then rinsed and blew the H/P out with lots of water, reverse spun again and let them dry. Unfortunately, no effect for me. They still had that nasty taste.

So now they're back in the "problem box" until I hear of something better.

I hear ya Rich - I finally through in the towel on cleaning them. I've come to the realization that continuesly re-using cartomizers is just not worth it. Now I just tend to use one carto maybe 3 times at the most (never letting it completely dry out before topping off). Once I got passed the mindset of trying to squeeze every dime out of each it's made things a whole lot nicer. It's still a HUGE savings compared to buying smokes.

So each payday I now just buy my 15 day supply. I figured I used to spend approximately $300.00 a month on Marboros. Now I'm dropping about $55.00 on (premium) cartomizers.

I am in agreement, here, I use peroxide to clean my atty's, I don't use it for cartomizers, I keep refilling until I hear snap crackle or pop, which ever comes first, then into file 13.
