To me the question will always remain
If someone had not tampered with the footballs would they have won the playoff game? Which brings the second question. How could they win the superbowl IF they didn't belong there?

I'm afraid I have to agree with you gpc...oh no, what is the world coming to?!...I'm no Seahawks fan, but I absolutely can't stand the Pats, and think the way they got into the Super Bowl was BS. The whole thing just really disgusts me.

AGREED!!! I defer to the Tuck Rule AFC playoffs of 2001....

I've been a Colts fan since Unitas was in Baltimore, so the outcome of that game wasn't my preferred result, but the ball pressure can be easily explained by the ideal gas law without cheating. If they inflated the balls to required 12.5 psi with humid 80 degree air prior to handing them off to the officials it would not be cheating and the psi would have dropped a pound (maybe more, depending on the amount of water vapor) when the balls reached 50 degrees on the field. Maybe somebody in the organization figured this out and took advantage of it, but, if so, it isn't cheating and I don't see it changing the win/loss outcome of the game anyway.

FYI:
Mythbusters on Discovery did several experiments on whether putting helium in a football (at the same PSI) would increase it's distance with an equal force kick applied to it. Ironically, it traveled LESS distance....assumed to be due to it having less mass with Helium vs denser/heavier air.
