Well, it looks like there was an overwhelmingly positive response to the
31 Pictures That Will Make You Proud To Be A Human Being Again - NewsLinQ article. I imagine everyone had a favorite or two that they found most inspiring. I was no exception. There was one in particular that gave me an instant and lasting positive effect from a sort of visceral reaction. I thought I would share.
I had never heard of
Dobri Dobrev and, consequently, being the natural born skeptic that I am, I broke out my Google-Fu and proceeded to look for some corroborating information. First stop, Snopes which I'm also skeptical of, BTW. There they had the following video, but a little background first.
Like a whole bunch of people, I've had the crud and have been churning out mucus by the bucket-loads for a couple days, so I was already predisposed to some superficial self-pitty, but then there came some unexpected external circumstances, beyond my control, that sent me into a state of depression I had never really experienced since my dad passed a few years ago. The details aren't important.
What is important is that it was serious enough to cause me to have some unreasonable and uncharacteristic desperate thoughts. I was keeping them private, but I had prayed for some answers and some relief, literally, just moments before executing my daily routine of checking this
thread.
I believe God answered my prayers in the last few seconds of this video where Dobri says: "God gives everything to those who pray; not that we deserve it, but because God is merciful and loves us.
You say: 'There is a lot of sorrow', but God Himself says: 'Be humble and your grief will turn to peace'." Now, I'm pretty sure that isn't a direct quote from anything that is actually in the bible (AFAIK), but it was exactly what I needed to hear exactly when I needed to hear it. What I can only describe as a wave of peace came over me and persists
through today. Maybe it's just a psychological response...maybe not...Either way, I'll take it and be thankful to God for it.
