Here's a link to last weeks Cloudmaker bit
last week’s teardown of the Whiteout SX
If I had only seen that video before last weekend. I was at the NJ vape expo, and I definitely have my questions for them. I took some screen shots of the video of the proto mod itself to see the components and how they all fit together. The box is all symmetrical, meaning the top is the same exact structure as the bottom and same with the sides, the 510 can be put into 3 spots, close to the chip, in the middle of the mod, or to the far side of the chip. This thing looks awesome so far, I can't wait to see a non-prototype finished product.

Thanks for the suggestion free jersey but eBay UK only had 100ml bottles and I need 250ml, luckiuly I caught my friend on one of his whistlestop home visits and he gave me the link to where he buys his Amber glass medicine bottles - Syrup bottles lot cheaper then eBay. Definitely liking the look of the whiteout not being bound to a single chipset is very nice as long as chip sizes remain compatible with the mod.

I'd wait till after the dna 200 comes out and is in the hands of ordinary people plus it's likely a new yihi chip will be following soon after and we will see how future proof the whiteout will be, I'm hoping yihi make a chip it can accommodate but time will tell. Lot of stuff happening and hard as it is patience might be the best solution but shinyitis can be a powerful force lol.

tons of people have the dna200 anyone can order one. check out the thread and also the evolv early adopter forums. there have been issues but mostly manufacturer faults with poor assembly. i have 4 chips ive built in 4 mods. they blow everything else ive used out of the water including my sxmini and my dual 18650 sx350j mods. 200 watts using ttemp mode. never a screen issue aside from my hana which was hana assembling it making the screen ribbon get pinched. and evolv has been outstanding with customer service. when my hana screen broke they overnighted me a screen even tho they didnt make the mod. also they had me send my hana to them for another repair that hana was the fault of. oh and they sent me a dna referance mod to use in the meantime.

the chip can do so much and they have made updates to the software many times including offering dual 18650 support which cloudmaker will be offering in the future. although with 2 batteries you can only output 133 watts instead of 200. i didnt like my dna40 even though mine never had a problem. but finally the dna 200 gives me a kanthal experience while using temp mode. and fires high wattage and reads down to ,03 letting me do crazy ni200 builds with thicker ni200. love it but ill end my rant.

I know there are people talking up the dna200 but as someone who has been bit by evolv more then a few times I won't be jumping on it anytime soon not looking for a fight just a fact. When yihi announce their next chip I'll weigh the options and then decide, obviously the whiteout is appealing as it allows multiple chips and hopefully any future chips cutting down costs substantially.

That's a reasonable stance as they burned a lot of bridges with the 40. That's why I took a chance on just the chip to make one. But luckily it's been awesome so I'm sure eventually you'll get to try or use one and report back on your findings. Either way I've had some Chinese chips fail but it's a hassle getting it fixed at least it was for me. Good luck whatever you choose. At least with the whiteout u can buy an add on chip and spare an entire mod cost.

Yea...I bought a lot of the 40s. Sent 7 back at once at one time. When the 200 came out I was cautious and did not get a box full. Having done that, I really really really like the chip. I suspect I will migrate to it exclusively and will only make mods using the chip going forward. I do have a big stock of the 40's that will put into simple mods for folks but that will be the end of them. Also, the way the 200 has been rolled out, with on-the-spot access to evolv staff for troubleshooting has been really first class.

First class indeed. The way they have been dealing with issues mostly even ones not their fault has been awesome. They redeemed themselves in my book. I mean they didn't entirely have bad service for replacing the 40 chips either but they launched this chip right. I too am exclusively using this chip and my sxmini is now exclusively for my low wattage builds and tanks. Pretty much just permanently has my hobo 3.1 on it.

But anyways even if China tries to replicate it I think it'll be hard and take a while for them. I think evolv set a high bar in performance and customer service too boot.

As to the whiteout, it is still a pre-order. I have asked on their FB page for a description of how they will handle the balance charger plug, how they will address the wire gage differences for the 200 and when their open source OS will be up on github for development. No answers to any of it. In my opinion, it will be hard to make a modular design that works with the two chips they are currently advertising. They use different battery interfaces and different wire sizes. That said, I am still hopeful, but reserving judgement. They do appear to be communicating on YouTube and Redit, but I am out of those channels, so perhaps I am just to old for this one.

I'd say if they just use the dna200 wire specs for the mod they will be good for any chip. Since there making the chip modular with slide in contacts it should work good.

Agree, but without confirmation and the fact that they are set to release the other chip first...I am curious. Sadly I think the version with the 200 may drop to two 18650s now that that is an option and then use the wire standards for the asian chip.

Possibly. But from what I saw the dna200 18650 option will be released after they come out

They are releasing the YiHi chip first out of customer demand at the time when this mod was conceived. The DNA200 was announced, and the demand kind of shifted. There's a MASSIVE thread on Reddit and they go into all the details. I plan on ordering one once the first batch hits the shelves. And from what's been said on that that thread, the battery tray is swappable as well, allowing the owner to swap from LiPo pack to dual 18650.

There are dual 18650 mods in use and working with the balance charger. The firmware update that supports it is available and a wiring schematic has been posted to use the balance charger. What evolv will be releasing is a add-on chip that prevents reverse battery installation errors/damage. If you are sane with your battery install, then you can have one today.
