Are guys vaping while testing? Would hate to burn up a good coil.

HD,

No, the guy in the video ran the test using an unwicked 0.8 ohm coil on an atty with no cap and just let the coil glow red hot during the 15-second test.

That's what I did. I used an old spare Igo-L base micro-coiled with 26-gauge Kanthal at 0.8 ohm. I tested at both 15 and 30 watts. No apparent damage to the coil.

Tested the crap out of mine (0003xxx) with no problem or much heat. Feels good to have some peace of mind.

Question...does this new info mean anything regarding use of onboard charge port? I never have, but the desire to will eventually arise

It should be fine. I used the usb for the first 10 days until my nitecore charger arrived.

Really should test it at 30w.

Tested the same coil at 30w but no wick. No difference.

Mine is 0004. Tested at 15w and again at 30w. All seems good here.

Makes me feel a lot more comfy. Which is good, because it feels so damn good in hand. Glad I will be able to use it as I want to.

I wouldn't let your guard down just yet. I don't think this is a definitive test but it's a good start. Most of the failures (maybe all?) occurred when it was just sitting doing nothing, not while firing.

I think it has more to do with the hot glue they're using to hold everything in place.

Yeah, Jay, I can't wait for this ”meltgate” panic (bordering hysteria in some other places) to wear off.

I have yet to receive my Cloupor minis (along with a Subtank mini) and I still feel strangely serene in this ”melting dud” respect.

It looks like Cloupor bashing became fashionable these days. It amuses me to see the silver CP mini with a rating of 3.9, while the exact same device, but black, is rated at 4.7 (FT figures). Not that I find ratings much reliable in any way.

And I opted for the medium subtank mainly because of its larger capacity vs. what the Nano can hold. I might as well buy the Nano too, but only after rebalancing my budget. :)

Would love to hear the theory behind this. Having used Hot Glue in hundreds of applications over a period of beyond a decade I can't see any reason.
You have a non conductive material injected in a low temp semi-liquified state and cooled. There is no Expansion/contraction of significance and the hold is minimal at best.
The glue cannot be causing a Thermal insulating heat failure or many more would have fried, mine included. I have had mine so hot from chain vaping as to have to remove the topper and set it aside to cool a bit.(hot in hand) No functional issues have arisen.

I have to stick with one of two theories.
1) Limited run of product with a defective board - IC chips/Processor/Regulation/etc. defective.
2) improperly trained/unsupervised/uncaring employee incorrectly assembling units leading to Board Flex Failure.

Either/both could lead to a limited run of defective units.

I'm either getting another nano or two Or a mini or two lol.
One thing I noticed with the nano is I'm taking shorter draws with using the higher watts and I'm not depleting my battery near as fast. Getting satisfied a lot faster so I'm actually able to set the thing down from time to time.
Also really enjoying this drip tip that came with it. I've always liked the vase style tip but just out of curiosity I put this tip on my aerotank for a test and made that more enjoyable as well. Next trip to B&M store I'm going to look for a red one to match the o rings than I'll put this one on my aerotank permanently.

I have 6 Cloupor Hana clone returns from Elev8 ($5 ea, great for building your own). The 3 of 6 had failures on the board where an IC fried and in those 3 examples, the IC was covered with hot glue. They use 2 different types of hot glue, one is amber in color and not like any hot glue I've seen, the other is what most people are used to seeing.

I opened up my Mini just to see for myself and they do use that amber stuff exactly where most are melting. Coincidence? Maybe.

While I agree that hot glue shouldn't cause any problems, specs on paper and in real life use may vary.
