This is the second time I went for an e-cig at a NYC restaurant. The first time was a Polish place on the lower east side, someone at another table complained to a waiter who asked me to stop smoking, and I couldn't make myself understod that it wasn't a cigarette despite stabbing myself in the face with the "lit" end. But tonight it all worked. We went to a new gastro place in alphabet city. I took out a Blu box, our friend and myself had Blus between courses and during two cups of coffee. No one batted an eyelash. These are black with blue tips can't really be mistaken for tobacco cigarettes. It was so enjoyable to smoke after dinner with coffee inside.

Shouldn't your post "title" be "coffee and a PV or at least electronic cigarette"? Glad you had some success, however. I think the more we use terms other than "cigarette", the less connection there will be with the real thing which we have worked so hard to get away from. You might want to consider carrying a small home-made little card that explains what a personal vaporier is and what it is not.

Good Luck

I really do see your point. We need to use terminology that sets vaping separate from smoking and change the way even we look at it. The further away we get from it, the more successful we'll be in gaining more acceptance from people. I also like your idea about handing out a card. Depending upon how much someone wants to put effort, you can go to vistaprint and have cards made to hand out - they are only 6.99 (free but pay for shipping) - instead of putting name address and all that, we could just put a blurb about what this is and hand those suckers out. Heck, I may do it for smokers that ask.

V4L supplies cards with their kits to give out and each time I've placed an order they send more cards. I've handed them out everywhere....especially to people still smoking analogs who've shone interest in what I'm "smoking". However, I've tried to be consciencious about vaping anywhere my odors might effect someone's flavor. I've vaped in a movie and a market but not at a restaurant.

I thought of that too because my supplier also includes cards and I have no problem handing those out but someone may not want to advocate one vendor over another or take responsibility if something doesn't go as it should. That's selling for a vendor and if they want to help out by providing a referral fee or credit for juice, well that would be a-ok with me ;)

Well, let me say this about that. My position is that it's a cigarette conceptually but not under the law. When people ask me about it, i say yeah, it's an electric cigarette, it's the new thing. If it weren't a cigarette, I would be quitting smoking cigarettes, when in fact, quitting is for quitters and I am not a quitter. As far as I'm concerned, it's just a new cigarette, improved, like a tazer instead of a musket.
I can't bring myself to say analog cigarette, either. There's nothing actually digital about an e-cig except for the charging circuit that blinks the light.
And I have a real hard time with vaporizer -- we have a real vaporizer for botanicals and it's just a different thing. I might go with "mister" or "smoke machine" perhaps..
I know this is not PC for this board, but hey, we've been advertised to for so long that we are individuals and that therefore as individuals we must all smoke THIS brand of tobacco cigarette...

Well, each to his own and you certainly should call it whatever works for you. I am glad you are willing to use it where traditional smoking is not allowed and I assume willing to educate people about it. I personally don't want to be categorized as being a smoker as I no longer burn tobacco. And I do believe from a technical standpoint it does "vaporize" flavored liquid and produce a water/PG based vapor similar to the function of a room vaporizer but in a smaller package. I think it is to all our advantage in the fight to prevent these being banned to make a clear distinction between using a personal vaporizer and smoking a traditional cigarette. There is no "smoke" or burning of tobacco so I can't see how it is smoking anything.

Keep educating the uninformed.:)

Okay, you have me totally confused. Are you saying that you still smoke when you use an ecig? It's not smoking. It's vaping. Smoking needs combustion (burning of tobacco leaves). Ecigs vaporize your liquid. There is no burning of anything (unless you let your cart run dry). There are thousands of chemicals in analogs versus maybe 20 in ecigs. BIG health difference there. I hope I'm misreading your statement. Correct me if I'm wrong in how I interpreted it.
