Nice thread! I'm going to try this with some D'arte alderwood roast tomorrow. The Cocoa recipe is also interesting.

Couple questions: Coffee produces volatile oils when heated. Is this a problem?
Also, is there a way to make espresso liquid? I mean, can one just filter a few drops of freshly brewed espresso into base liquid and vape it? Will it be strong enough? Should I just try it? :)

I like coffee, but I LOVE espresso!

Over the edge...
I learned this from a friend: Fill 1/2 of a 30 ml bottle of ground coffee. I used Cuban coffee because it's really strong.. Then top it off with PG and microwave for 10 seconds. (no longer). The Pg will absorb the coffee. Then top off again with pg, then place bottle in a hot water bath for 20 minutes. Strain mixture with a coffee filter. I used a funnel, and cut the filter to fit.

I used 3% coffee, 1% Bavarian Cream and 1% Caramel and It was the best Coffee liquid I ever had.

Wow. It's that easy! I just made some in 100% VG. Nice. Thank you, Jimi.

Has anyone tried this without a microwave? I'm excited to do this today, but without a microwave I'm thinking of using hot/boiling water for the initial heating. Any thoughts/experiences on this method are much appreciated.

I no longer use a microwave. I don't use boiling water, either - I try and keep the water around 190 degrees but I don't get real .... about it. You'll find that you need to top the bottles off with PG or VG once or twice during the extraction process, but I just drop the bottles neck-deep in a hot water bath, keep them topped off and let them sit at around 190 degrees for about half an hour then dump them into a filter :)

Same here...too many imo get hung up on details with this process. The object of the process is to flavor the liquid (pg/vg/nic base...whatever) for vaping....measurements aren't so important imo...and as long as there's heat in some form to help #1 soften the coffee and make it receptive to the liquid, and #2 make the liquid more easily absorbed you're going to get coffee flavor. The variables are great...type of coffee, ratios, how long you let it steep, etc...

Experiment, have fun with it!

I made some tea extract out of regular lipton tea bags not long after this thread started. It's been steeping ever since. Mostly because I forgot about it. Anyway, I mixed up a batch with it tonight with some sweetener and it's delicious. The tea does have a little old tea taste so I think it is too old. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad at all. Another rookie mistake...I don't remember how many tea bags I used to make this extract and I didn't record it.

If you haven't tried regular tea extract using this method I highly recommend it.

I did the cocoa extraction today but I can't taste any cocoa. :(

You can't taste it in the flavoring at all? Or just in the vapor?

One thing I noticed with the cocoa more then the coffee extraction is that you have to use a HUGE percentage of flavoring and you have to use low voltage, or (to be more accurate) low Watts. I got almost nothing at 4.5 Volts, but 3.4-4 volts with a 2.5-3 Ohm atty really made the chocolate flavor bloom. Try at least 30% flavoring, or even 50%, and test it on a low voltage device.
I'm not as happy with the coffee extraction. Tastes 'off' in some way to me, kinda like hot coffee that has later been refrigerated. I might give it another try with a different bean at some point, or with drops of filtered espresso.

Hmmm.... mine has fairly strong flavor.
If I was somewhat more organized and precise I might be able to help more, but I didn't measure anything - I just put a few teaspoons into a cup and swirled some PG into it (maybe 20 or 30 ml?). 12 seconds in the microwave and waited several minutes, and then through a coffee filter. Got 15 ml of flavoring. It's clear, but has a definite tint to it... not as dark as black tea, but getting close.

What a great thread. Everything sounds yummy

A note of caution however. Many (for example Nature's Flavors) coffee flavorings with butter or caramel or cream flavorngs contain Diaectyl. I verified this by calling the company. This is realy bad for you if vaped and can cause a disease called Broncholitis Obliterans which is treated by lung transplant.

So vape on but don't use butterscotch or caramel or cream flavored coffee. I'm going to make a batch but I shall use plain coffeeand flavor it myself..

I second this. Diacetyl should not be vaped...

Also, I've extracted coffee in hot, not boiling vg, and also in vodca. The vg extract was absolutely amazing right after I made it, but sadly tasted like stale coffee the next day... The alcohol extract was just blah, also like stale coffee... Anybody got any tips for me?

I want to try extracting ginger next, as my alltime favorite flavor is gingerbread from Nature's Flavors, but it seems to possibly bother my lungs, and I guess I can't be sure theres no diacetyl in it... So yeah, ginger extract is next!
