To get to 1.0 ohm, you’re going to need much thinner wire. Which is difficult to work with. Which is why I resigned myself to lower ohms. With 26 gauge it’s pretty easy to get a .3 or .4 coil. So, with a single coil atty, I’m pretty happy, but I do prefer DL.
Yeah I guess the calculator was close to right or more likely that I inputted it at least somewhat correctly because here I am reading point five with 6 wraps maybe Kanthal would work better for me there's no more room I cannot add another wrap at least not at my level of expertise which is completely new so maybe if I could just break the laws of physics I might be able to fit another couple wraps in there but it looks like .5 is where I'm going to be for now.

So I'm just checking that I'm using the steam engine calculator correctly. With 26 gauge stainless steel round wire going for an internal diameter of 2.5 and over 1 ohm resistance are people actually wrapping the coil between 16 and 26 times around the jig? Cuz those are the results I'm getting I'm playing around with it but even when I go down into the .8 ohm range I'm still getting double-digit wraps that just doesn't seem reasonable.. I mean that's no longer a coil it's a slinky.. having a hard time believing that that's what people are doing
For as start with 9 wraps and ignore the resistance.

When working with ss you sacrifice resistance for in favor for flavor. You can still mtl the .5 ohm. I'm not familiar with the rta you're using but most decks can accommodate a 7-9 wrap contact coil. You might find you like it. If you have two rtas put a kanthal in one (8 wraps should get you to .98-1 ohm) and try a 7 wrap as in the other. This should give a general idea which flavor and hit is more to your liking. Don't expect the wattage you're used to be the same as where you normally vape. The wrapping is the easy part, expect to experiment a bit. Wire is cheap so build coils with different id and # of wraps. You might be surprised where you find your sweet spot.

I'm using 28 gauge SS right now. 6-7 wraps gets me .7 and higher. The two coils I'm using right now are .97 and .72.

On a regulated mod - the resistance is just a number. And as a fellow MTL vaper I've run coils at 0.3ohms through to 0.8ohms. Generally I use 28ga ss316l 2.5mm id 6 wraps at 0.5 or 0.6ohms.

Just because you vape mtl doesn't mean you have to build 1.2ohm coils. As said above, it's more about finding the right build for your RTA - whether that is 8 wraps at 0.7ohms or 6 wraps at 0.5ohms

I do MTL mainly and often wrap .5 coils for that. It's always a surprise to me what I end up with when I wrap. Life is like a box of chocolates kinda thing. I don't care to count. lol. I check it when it's done and if it's too high, I take off a wrap or two. Works great.

I'll look up some pics of wraps on my berserker to get an idea of what they look like with 7 plus wraps I completely screwed up the wicking this last time of course because the first time I did it so well LOL so I ended up keeping the coil ditchin the wick as it was wonky as heck but I was relatively okay with the .5 in all honesty I really couldn't tell a difference until the thing started leaking but that had nothing to do with the coil and everything to do with the wicking. Thanks

A Berserker 1.5 or the original?

I got her all rewicked and didn't have the leaking from under the air control ring but sure did have it coming out of the air hole itself LOL I probably changed the thing three times before I looked it up and quite a few people reported that there's was doing the same thing it wasn't like a steady stream but there was a little bit of liquid coming out the air hole and some gurgling. So someone on the thread had said when you're putting the top cap back on to set it in there and give it one turn and then flip it upside down and seal it the rest of the way and that seems to have helped. They also recommended taking the O-ring out of the top and either replacing it with a thinner looser one or just not using one at all though I'm not clear on whether that was in reference to the original Berserker or the 1.5 or the mini I think there's a mini LOL either way it was hardly catastrophic like when I had it leaking out from under the band or I guess you could always bottom fill it. I'm sure it's still related to user error but at least I have a fix while I work on my skills with experience

Like you, my first ever build when flawlessly and vaped AWESOME. My next rewicked turned into the rewicking from hell - I distorted the coil, taking out the old wick

Eventually got it recoiled and wicked, but I swore a few times during it ;)

Usually I get really angry with little tinkering things that I can't get quite right but there's something really relaxing about all this maybe it's the thought that I know that I can sustain myself to some level regardless of what happens or maybe it's just that I can concentrate on something other than everything that's going on in the world

It is definitely relaxing and I find it a therapeutic hobby. Yes you have times where it drives you batty, but generally coiling and wicking is an awesome hobby to have :thumb:

    Flat wire/Ribbon wire:

My first coil was kanthal 0.68mm*0.27mm 6 wraps @ 0.5ohm . Using a winder on the coil master jig, it wrapped easy as pie. Installing it was a bit harder due to using a deck with screw heads. It would be easy in headless grub screw attys.

    ribbon.jpg

I haven't been able to even come close to getting my next couple of coils looking that good - thank god I took a pic of it

This flat wire thickness is about the equivalent of 25ga single wire. It ramps up like 26 or 27ga wire.

It gives tons of flavour. It gets warm, but not as hot as my MTL clapton wire.

My next mission is to install a TC build for the pico squeeze 2:
ss316l 0.68mm*0.27mm 2.5mm id 5 wraps which will come out around 0.25 ohms

It's the lowest I've built - which is why it is firmly staying away from my unregulated squonkers  Apart from it being on the edge of safe with my 20amp batteries, it would hit with a full battery at 70watts :shock::shock::shock::shock: I prefer 20 watts ;)

I am searching around on Amazon for vape supply related things and I've been wondering about rayon as a lot of people in older posts have said that it lasts longer or that they really like using it but I can't find any posts that were done recently regarding if Amazon (have a gift card) has any rayon that is usable for vaping. I know that their products change so often that what was recommended from Amazon three years ago might be a completely different thing now or it might have even been redesigned or changed. I thought it might be nice to try something different since I've only tried cotton bacon so far. Do any of you use rayon and if so how do you know what rayon is good to use and what rayon is not? And does anyone by chance know if there's one of the good to use kinds on Amazon and what it's called or what to look for? I got a really awesome reply in regard to wire on Amazon so I thought this would be the best place to put this :) thanks in advance

This is what you seek, 100% Rayon.
    https://www.amazon.com/Graham-Professional-Cellucotton-Beauty-Rayon/dp/B00PBGJT5A

Follow the link in my sig to take you to the Rayon thread, everything you need to know about using Rayon is in the first 6 posts. Rayon is not wicked the same as cotton (Rayon is tight in the coil with thinned tails) and has a bit of a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it there is no going back to cotton.

I use the same stuff. I got a 500ft box from Sally's Beauty Supply for $15.
