Yes, you need a permit before you take the course. No, you don't have anyone riding with you. As far as I know (PA anyway), you can't ride after dark, and there may be other restrictions (no freeways...). Here's a link for the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) courses in SC, not sure which ones would be close to you. Click on the links to see the requirements.

Guess I should have read all the way through before I replied. :)

Good morning guys and gals.

Rough night last night. The storms knocked out power to about 6k homes last night, and dropped more than 4" of water in about 4 hours. Roads were still closed to flooding this morning. Trees down. Bleh.

Thats about all the fun Ive got going on here.

Thats the link I used to find the course at the H-D store in Rock Hill.

Ok, so permit first, then safety course, then back to the DMV.

The ones that I am familiar with are put on by Motorcycle Safety Foundation. They don't target teenagers, but rather all new riders. The MSF course is really good from what I know of it. Im familiar with some of their material and teaching. It's not intended to sell anything but skill and knowledge. Hopefully you can find one put on by them.
This is the one local to me: Learn To Ride | Cox's Harley-Davidson® of Rock Hill South Carolina

And as long as the website is up to date, once both the knowledge test and skills test are completed, I get a waiver form to take to the DMV so I dont have to take the test again. Now, I just need the time to get to the DMV for the permit and to get the bike titled and registered, the $325 for the course, then time for the 4 day course, then more time to get back to the DMV

It's put on in conjunction with MSF, so it should be fine. I'm not sure what the "inner workings of a Harley-Davidson dealership" is all about.

Exactly. That is the only line of everything I read on it that worries me. Ive got nothing against Harley's or the people that ride them, but I dont give two donkey turds about the inner workings of their dealership. Im there to learn how to ride. Period.

But, I'll deal with the that crap, and any bashing I'll receive about having a crotch rocket among the cruiser folks.

Morning posse!
G'Mornin' FV! I hope your first day back after your first weekend isnt too terrible. If it is, just split up the customer complaints between JD, Rick, and myself. Im sure they wouldnt mind helping out a little bit.

Good morning! Yuck to storms. Did you keep power? Sounds like a lot you've got to do to get on the bike but I'm sure it will be well worth it once you start riding.

Fingers crossed for good news on Zach.

Thanks! It's not bad news anyway. His fever is gone and he's much better this morning than on Saturday. The vet sent out the blood work today anyway because he's seeing some anomalies with some of the tests he ran today vs. on Saturday. We'll start getting results on Wednesday perhaps. Until then, at least he's acting about as happy as he ever acts.

It is...

insurance first. DMV for the permit/title/registration/taxes/plates. Then purchasing all the safety gear (glove, boots, jacket). Then the course. Then the DMV. Then leave the wife at home with the kids for hours on end. Get back home with a sore neck from having the helmet on my head. Then listen to the wife complain about how bad her day was while my ears are ringing from the exhaust note... :D

Good morning. My dilemma for the day is should I paint doors and trim work in the house or go to my grandmas for a little bit. Hmmmmm....

Paint until lunch then go to grandma. Duh. Best of both worlds!

That's good news. I hope the blood work comes back fine. I'm so glad he's feeling better.
