Like I said, thats my plan. I have to call to set it up, and show up with over $300 to pay for it. And its done Friday eve, all day Sat, all day Sun, and Monday eve.

I shouldve said I HOPE it can be done that soon.
Aha, that might be the difference, ours is free so probably why it filled up so fast.

Ouch. However, it's the best money you will ever spend.

Wow...that's disturbing. The state agency allows someone to renew an instructional permit indefinitely?

Yes but there were changes. They must now take and pass a knowledge test in order to get the permit. Then its only renewable 1x. If they don't follow through they retake the knowledge test. Under 18 years of age are also required to take the free MC course before they may get their MC license.

Im glad you guys brought that up... I was just looking at SC's website about getting a license. Do I have to get a permit first? Everything I saw seemed to be geared more toward riders 17 and under.

And if I DO need a beginners permit, how does that work on a bike? I cant exactly go pick up my brother every time I want to ride...?

Ouch. However, it's the best money you will ever spend.
Of this, I have no doubts. The only part of it that Im not looking forward to, is listening to the "learn the inner workings of a Harley Davidson dealership"... Ungh. I wish there was a local community college that offered one and not have to go to an H-D dealer for it. But, I guess I'll have to deal.

Harley Davidson holds a class here at all of their dealerships. You might want to check into it James.

Time to go see if the restaurant is still open. Back later on.
Simul-post! The only course offered anywhere near me is the one at an H-D dealer, about 30-45 minutes away. And its also the most expensive. There are a couple of community colleges that do it for about half the price, but none are anywhere close to me.

In Pa if you have a dl you can ride on a permit. But you must have a permit first. Wow cant believe SC Dmv doesn't offer free courses. BUMMER.
Thanks Drott.

If I get a chance to call the SCDMV tomorrow, I'll ask about the permit and if they offer free courses that I may have missed on the website.

But for now, Im going to try to get some sleep. We've got a pretty nasty storm rolling in that Im afraid will keep the kids awake...

Y'all have a good night.

Yes, you need a permit before you take the course. No, you don't have anyone riding with you. As far as I know (PA anyway), you can't ride after dark, and there may be other restrictions (no freeways...). Here's a link for the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) courses in SC, not sure which ones would be close to you. Click on the links to see the requirements.

Night posse. Have a good rest of your evenings. I have to be up early tomorrow to take Zach to the vet. Blech. That's the one bad thing about working from home. I'm not used to getting up early enough to be out the door by 7:45.

*don't hurt me!*

Hoping all goes well tomorrow..

The ones that I am familiar with are put on by Motorcycle Safety Foundation. They don't target teenagers, but rather all new riders. The MSF course is really good from what I know of it. Im familiar with some of their material and teaching. It's not intended to sell anything but skill and knowledge. Hopefully you can find one put on by them.
