Mornin' all.
I've been sulking/pouting all week. In the last game our team played Sunday, we were down by two runs with less than 10 minutes left in the game, two outs, Kat was on deck. After the batter before her got on base, she started walking up to the plate, and the coach took her out and put an extra batter in. Furious, I stood up and yelled "ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?", referring to "Are you seriously taking Kat out and not giving her a chance to hit?". Unfortunately, a lot of the parents took it as "Are you seriously putting HER in?" There was a lot of fallout on that. Since the team is a part of an organization, they have an elected volunteer board of directors and a volunteer elected president. They had a meeting Tuesday about it and decided their best course of action was to take Kat off the team. Yep.
Three words from me at the wrong time and in the wrong place got Kat kicked out of a really good softball organization. Dad of the year, right here. After talking to me after the game, and again after Monday night's practice, I felt like the issue had been resolved, and he knew that my apology was genuine. But it still had to go to the board.
The coach seemed genuinely sorry to deliver the news to me. He claimed to really enjoy having her on the team and didnt agree with that decision. As bad as it sounds, he was pushing to have me banned for two or
three tournaments and to keep Kat on the team. But the board decided to drop her. The coach said that this was like a "cooldown" period. It isnt a lifelong "you'll never play with us again", but a "just for the remainder of the Spring season". He told us if things worked out right, he would love to have her back in the Fall.
But, since we left on good terms (me and the coach, specifically) he's put me in touch with a couple of coaches of good teams he knew that were looking for a couple of players. Kat will be trying out with one of them Monday evening. I had also posted on several sites and FB pages that we were looking for a team. One coach from out of town saw one of the posts and invited Kat to play as a guest for them during this weekend's Spring World Series. So, we'll be back on the field all weekend. I think this will be good for Kat. When a team needs a guest player, its because they dont have enough people to compete. This way, she's almost guaranteed ample playing time. The team is a lower skill level than what she's used to, so it should help her shine a little bit and help build up her confidence.
Those of you who helped out with her raffle, dont worry. Your tickets are being turned into the coach today, and you are still going to be in the drawing.
Sorry for venting and yet another novel....
I better get moving. Douche Canoe was supposed to have a phone meeting with me almost an hour ago, but he hasnt even made it into the office yet.
Y'all have a good day.
