i think if i averaged the amount i spend on juice and replacement atomisers and batteries, probably around $10 but i mix my own juice so that helps.

If i start adding in the amount i have spent on shiny goodies then smoking doesnt seem so expensive. j/k!
Hopefully now i have settled on a setup that works for me i won't be spending large sums again for a long while.

After my start up costs I spend roughly $30 a month for my wife and myself (also helping sister-in-law). Thats on the low side but my wife was a pack a day, and I was a 1 1/2 PAD guy. When we quit in June cartons were $70-$80 here. I don't have the best of anything mind you, but I don't feel the need for that. Starting to, but not quite yet.

You could do it very cheap if you wanted to. Get an ego kit, $35 and make your own juice. If you stuck to one type of juice, a cartomizer cost around $1.30 each. You might be able to use one for a week with thin, clear juice.
After the startup of kit & DIY supplies, I'd be cheap.

Do most of us vape this way? Nope!

Wow, cigs are cheap where you live. No matter, you can still save money. You just might have to work at it a little more than others.

Something you will discover is that the direct cost comparison is a little tricky, because vaping will allow you to increase your level of indulgence. Many people vape more heavily than they formerly smoked, while actually decreasing their overall costs.

In NY? hahahahahahaha! They cost even more in NY than NJ and we pay $8 a pack.

That price might be RYO or from the Res.

Welcome to ECF timetoswitch. Initially my investment was approx. $90. Since that time, of course, I've upgraded hardware, bought more juice etc. The expenditure is up to you. Some are able to abstain from buying every new PV that comes down the pike. Others, not so much. I also spent approx. $30 per week for analogs and happily went on my way slowely killing myself. Now I feel as though any amount of money I spend on vaping I can recoup by enjoying a longer life.

For some people it's pretty cheap I guess. My sister has never been on the forum evah (imagine that!) and has an ego and just gets juice and cartos. I order them for her because apparently even that is too much of a strain. She also doesn't vape 100% :smokie:

If you hang around the forum, it's very tempting to want to try everything you see, but I think the support here helps you stay motivated and keep vaping.

I spent the first 3 or 4 months stumbling around trying to find juice that I liked then realized that I wasn't digging the hardware I was using. Probably spent a few hundred bucks in the first 3 months and then landed on the Kanger H-coil cartos that I love and I'm just trying to find my sweet spot for juice now. I anticipate spending about $40-$50 a month when I find my daily vape vs about $250 a month on analogs

I currently spend $30 per carton, roughly a carton a week. How much does it cost to vape instead of smoke?

I can get Gambler filtered Cigars for $12.00 a carton online. Its a normal cigarette with Cigar paper, so they get away from the cigarette tax. It as never the cost for me, Im 39 and want to get away from the other bad things that analog cigarettes have to offer.

I can see this will actually cost me more then analog cigarettes but only because you go crazy with the juice, kits, mods, etc. However, I can see it becoming more of a hobby then an addiction. In the end, Ill be off analog cigarettes and have a new hobby :)

Well, I just bought a new shiny thing, not a PV, that I'm waiting on delivery. Then I have 2 little shiny things that won't be available until April to buy, and then I'm good for the year. I have all I need of bits and pieces and DIY stuff.

I smoked Capri 120's and a carton was about 60.00 when I quit in July 2010, so about 180.00 month. I didn't start vaping until Aug 2011 so I have theoretically saved much, much more than I have spent on vaping, counting absolutely everything. I tend to buy in bulk on sale.

Your initial costs will be relatively high, but still lower than smoking. There's an "experimentation phase", where you'll be trying different models, voltages, juices, etc. Plus there's the 'kid in a candy store' thing; you'll see all kinds of new stuff coming out that you just *have* to get & try.

After a while, though, you'll find your sweet spot. Everyone has one, and you'll find it eventually. Once you're there, your experimentation purchases will drop & you'll just be getting standard supplies.

Mine is a home-built 3.7v box mod with a 2-ohm cartomizer & DIY juice (spearmint is my all-day flavor) at around 20mg, 10-20% VG.

I get 100mg nicotine base in 500ml bottles for $170; one will make 2.5 liters of my juice, and at 3-4ml per day, that's 2 years worth. It's kept in the freezer & I split it with a fellow vaper, so once a year, we go "halfsies" on a bottle. Annual= $85

Flavoring & base liquids (PG & VG) are relatively cheap. Figure another $75 or so annually.

Madvapes sells LR cartomizers at lower prices in high volume (I'm sure other sites do too.) In bulk, they're $1.29 each, and one lasts me about 5 days before the flavor & vapor production become unacceptable.
Let's say I use 80 per year. Annual= $103.20

Batteries & chargers I get WAAAAY cheap from DX; they come on the slow boat direct from China, but I'm always back-stocked, so no worries. I'll give it $100 a year for those plus parts for new box mods & sundries.

Add in another $150 a year for new toys (hey, you never REALLY get all the way out of that 'experimentation phase', lol) and as a 'fudge factor'.

I estimate my total annual expenditures at $513.12. That makes a weekly total of $9.87. I used to send about $50 a week up in smoke (now it would be $60 here). So, I can guess that you'll be spending probably as much as you do now at first, but quickly your savings will start to be apparent; by the end of your first year, expect to be spending in the neighborhood of $10 a week.
