We have all had them at one time or another and for many of us it seems like they would never stop. I think Darri mentioned it once as the Rule of 3. After 3 days, 3 weeks and 3 month an ex-smoker would experience a literal wave of craving for an analog.

I know I went through it a couple of times between months 2 and 4 where I would be driving or working. All of the sudden it was like being zapped with lightning bolt and my brain went into overdrive, craving an analog as if I was craving air while being suffocated....then after 20 minutes it would pass.

I can only theorize that perhaps some tobacco related chemicals take longer than others to finally leave the body and along the way their departure stimulates some sort of neural reaction that triggers the brain into think it needs to produce dopamine.

In any case don't feel alone if out of the blue, even after a couple of months of quitting your are literally stopped in your tracks with a freakish overwhelming urge to have a smoke. When this happens just keep telling yourself..it will pass...it will pass..and if you are like me in 20 minutes or so it will pass.

I mentioned this once to gowsgirl, Philip Morris and his evil minions are responsible for the little voices in your head when killer cravings hit. The best thing to do is look at yourself in the mirror, past your eyeballs and into your brain, and give that rotten bastage Philip Morris the middle finger and tell him, "Not this time buddy, THIS TIME I WIN."

Sounds crazy, even over-dramatic but it worked for me. :2cool:

I agree. I had some craving but refused to give in. They passed quickly. I vaped a little more during that time with a higher nic level. Helped and so far I haven't had any since. I wouldn't be surprised it there are still lingering chemicals in me that are still leaving. I haven't smoked since August 19th, 2010. 2 middle fingers up is more like it. I'd do toes too but they don't want to cooperate.

I sometimes forget I vape and start looking on my desk for a cigarette.! This is a new desk in another house..no one is allowed to put an ashtray on it!) In the car I have found myself patting the seat next to me for my cig case. I assume it's a sneaky little trick your mind plays. My hubby asked me to light one for in the car and I had it almost to my lips when I remembered I am an addict! I told him to wait for a stop light..I don't smoke!

All of the above, especially Snow's reminder that the cravings come at odd times even long after the quit. And the reminder that they pass rather quickly. A good reminder for anyone seriously trying to quit cigs: never be caught without plenty of vaping gear. Stock up. Spend the extra bucks up front to be ready. And never, despite what a lucky few may say, never take the chance to sample a cig again for any reason. Vape a 24 and consider yourself lucky. I know I do.

That right there is brave. I don't think I'm at the point yet where I could be in a car with someone who smoked. Even though I remember my last cigarette - all I could taste was disgusting chemicals that lingered in my mouth. I wanted to remember that taste so I didn't brush my teeth for a full 30 minutes afterwards.. A way of punishing myself :). Still though, I would hate to be confined with a smoker at this point in time.

I sure have had them, and still get them, latey when watching a movie where they are smoking a lot. But it's not hard for me to fight the urge with the ecig, before when I tried to quit I always caved to those urges. That first month was the toughest so far. I talk to someone who quit over 20 yrs ago and they still get urges, so yeah, thanks Philip Morris. Well done! Legal drug pusher.

Great post Snow:D.

I had a real bad on the other morning. I was dreaming, DREAMING. I was smoking, but I kept thinking in the dream I don't smoke any more. I work up from that really really wanting one, but I just vaped till it passed, took about half an hour. I am sure more will come, but I will get through them. The other option just isn't worth it.

Moran, you said it helped you or others to vape as close to the old analog as possible. In my case it was the opposite. I vaped fruit and mint flavors..until I was at about 3 months then added 555 and Ry4 to my juices. It wasn't until over a year I added wowboy. I wanted to be as far from tobacco flavors as possible! Now it doesn't matter. I love them all except for anything with cream or butter flavor.
