I posted a reply to a brief message at a cruise review forum started by someone who saw e-cigs for the first time on her trip. This was a couple of months ago (before the FDA announcement). The thread stayed pretty quiet for a while. Now it has the inevitable 'shouldn't be sold without FDA approval' reply, and the usual debate has begun.

At least its staying civil, a couple of ex-smokers are giving it e-cigs a thumbs up, and someone is thinking about getting one for a friend.

If anyone is curious, you can see it here.

Rambling Rose from the Cruise Review forum:

...To let 400,000 americans die every year when there is an alternative is criminal. Even ...... addicts are give needles or methadone, yet smokers should be left to die rather than allow an alternative? We welcome studies; quality control and safe packaging are important, and yes - just as there are potential side effects with nearly all pharmaceuticals, anything is possible and we want to know all there is to know. BUT - they are much safer than smoking. And if something turns up in studies that could be an issue down the road? Then we'll deal with it...

Outstanding, my friend. =)

I just read the whole thread and was amazed at how civil it was. Plus, the amount of interest shown by folks who have friends and family that want to quit is fantastic. I really think that the snowball effect of PV users spreading the word is what will save us from a ban. Eventually so many people will be using them that if a ban is tried there will be an uprising like never seen before. I've talked to smokers that are interested in PVs for themselves, and non-smokers that are interested for their smoking friends and family. Even the ones who were initially scared because of the FDA report were impressed by how much research I could point to and disgusted by the twist the FDA is putting on the study they did. When they hear that PVs have the same amount of "dangerous chemicals" as the FDA approved NRTs people get angry that the FDA is being deceitful.

Hey Rose, I've been a member on CC since 99 or so! Have not been there in a while but remember the smoking/anti-smoking threads on the Princess forums!
Hahaa, I remember! Hey PTJD, come join us for our post-Thanksgiving Caribbean jaunt on Princess... we can start an vaping group on the ship!

Sounds like fun! My last cruise on Princess was the Mediterranean on Emerald. This was about 2 years ago pre-vaping days.
Have not had the interest to cruise as much since Princess instituted their stricter reg's about carry on wine.
I did notice they were getting tougher about smoking also.

Oh yeah, it'll be fun! My cousin is getting married on the beach at sunrise the day after Thanksgiving. So I decided that if I'm going to deal with holiday travel I should max it and turn it into a real vacation. This Jersey girl likes breaks from winter weather!

They're all getting tough on carry-on wine. We have a family rule... one bottle per person is allowed, so everyone boards with a bottle whether they drink or not. And it's easy to get more on board than the rules allow.

Princess actually has more smoking areas than most of the cruise lines at this point, including smoking sections in most of the lounges, which is good for me since my parents still smoke. It's easy to find places we can hang together comfortably.

I've only been on one cruise since I started vaping. It wasn't Princess, but it was no problem at all, and I don't expect any problems this time.
