I had asked if should order juice only, and reuse my starter-kit cartos. I'm awaiting a reply. Do I need to order any other equipment to refill my cartos? I'll be staying two nights pre-cruise at Hotel Jazz this time.

We stayed at Hotel Jazz a few years ago, shortly after it first opened, it's 2 blocks from Catalunya, there's a Starbucks right by it :)

About filling or refilling a carto, they are simple to refill, you can refill them anywhere using the "condom" fill method .. kewl name huh? There are lots of posts and videos right here on ECF about how to do it, my personal method is the the CCFM method (cartomizer condom filling method) .. here's Doggsbody's video on how to do it:

YouTube - Refill Ecig Cartos Quick and Easy (CCFM)

here is another video that shows the CCFM plus the "taryn spin" which allows you to get a little more liquid into the carto:

YouTube - A double demo! The Cartomizer Condom Filling Method, and the Taryn Spin.

When you watch the video please know that you dont have to do the "taryn spin" part .. instead you can flick the carto hard a few times, like you would flick a therometer however be SURE to have the ".... plug" in the battery end and have the battery turned DOWN when you flick it. I personally do it the "therometer flick" way, I refill a carto in less than 1 minute, it's almost as good as the taryn spin and not as embarrassing if you're a female doing it on a street corner

I dont know if you plan to stop your analogs completely or not, but if you are going to vape all the time like most of us you'll probably want more cartos than the 5 that came with your kit. If you decide to order more cartos it would be a good idea to write a comment on your order to Ross asking him to double check your order to be sure you didnt order the wrong cartos by mistake since he has several different kinds and some wont work with your batteries. I think for now you can easily get by with just ordering 10 standard KR808 cartos, they come in a 5-pack.

If you end up being in love with vaping like so many of us, then you may want a few extra batteries and a PCC if you travel or work (a PCC is portable, to use "on the go", it will recharge a battery approx 4 times without having to be plugged in).

And for liquids, VaporsEtc has a deal on liquids right now, the deal ends August 1 at midnight, you get 3 liquids for the price of 2, you need to use this coupon code on checkout: juicedeal

After reading alot more today on this site I found a thread regarding the online site where I ordered my e-cig a couple of years ago. Apparently this particular dealer is not too trustworthy (no wonder I couldn't figure out then how to use them  back then). Wish I had known this before but, oh well, ya live & ya learn. I was trying to order many more prefilled carts for my real start Monday...& they were so expensive! Finally found the thread concerning this particular dealer. Now, I'm looking (again) to pick the best supplier & e-cig for me. I'm pretty sure I've got enough carts for the next week...& hopefully the batts I have now will hold out, but I need some back-ups pretty quick! I really think that I need the prefilled ones at first; I'm a terrible "mechanic" & "chemist", so I guess I'll get back to researching again.

Btw, DH mentioned this pm that he'd like me to research a cruise for this fall or winter 2011 (little does he know I've already narrowed it down to 2:D....Freedom OTS in Oct or Voyager in Jan (we live 90 min from Galveston). Now I'm really convinced to try vaporing instead of smoking! Hopefully DH will follow!

Wow, I don't think I would have the guts to try vaping on an airplane. Aren't there some airlines that are advertising that they allow vaping? Just wondering...

On the cruise subject, I cruised to the Bahamas last September, and I still smoked, as did many other passengers. We were allowed to smoke in the casino at any time it was open, and anywhere outside on the decks. But I was always careful not to smoke near children playing, or standing near the railing, due to the wind. They never came right out and said smoking was prohibited in your room, but rather stress that for everyone's comfort, use the designated smoking areas. I smoked before my breakfast arrived in my stateroom, I know they could smell it, but never said anything. I was also a big tipper! It is definitely one of the places that vaping would be a huge asset. They could sell disposables in the gift shop with all the overpriced clothes and "discount" cigarettes.

I have a friend I work with who also owns a travel agency and offered me a half-priced ticket to Bermuda in 2011, but I couldn't go. Really wish I could have committed, since I always travel alone, and still have to buy the whole cabin. He is also booked on Freedom this year, and just about all the other cruises leaving the East Coast.

Everyone cruising this year, have a great time....

Hi Ragamuffin, it would be nice if airlines would allow ecigs. I have heard of passengers doing it, although I havent .. yet :)

Gosh I wonder if you are my neighbor, I live 90 min from Galveston too! NW of Houston :)

Jackie

Jackie, I live in Beaumont, sort of neighbors:). One of our sons lives in west Houston, close to the Town & Country area. Will see him next weekend, provided my husband's sciatic nerve gets better; don't know who is more sick of his sciatic nerve, him or me:unsure:.

Hopefully I'll be totally vaping, not smoking by next weekend. This particular son absolutely hates smoking & has been after us since he was a baby (he will turn 27 Aug 3). Will be fun to show him the e-cig!

Stashbldr/Jackie...
Thank you for posting those videos on carto refills. I only ordered more juice, no extra cartos. If I feel I need more while on my business trip, I'll just have them sent to my hotel.
I've had my e-cig since Friday (today's Sunday, about 1:45pm), and am still on my first carto, and have not yet had to recharge the battery, either. I'm just not much of a smoker. I've also had no analog cigs yet today. Normally, I'd have smoked about three or so. I smoke more in the evenings while watching TV. So, I think my initial starter kit supply might last a long while.

On our TA cruise--don't forget, you can sign up for the M&M, but you don't need to announce that you've done so on the CC Roll Call. You can just show up and we can meet each other, then you can sneak away! Like you, I'm not much into those types of meetings, either. Generally, I'll go to an M&M if I've got a private tour arrranged with somebody there. Plus, if I'm travelling solo, like I am on this cruise, I like to go to an M&M to make a few new acquaintainces, and therefore know a few faces onboard.

Checking in!

I know I initially said I was going to start on ecigs on Saturday but...got a little overserved Friday night and didn't want to deal with a whole new world and a hangover

So I started this morning. So far, I had just a half an analog (mostly out of curiosity...I wanted to see how different it was ) today. I was about a pack a day smoker before, so that's about 10 cigarettes not smoked! Wow!

So far, so good. Best of luck to all my fellow cruisers/new vapers!

-Sara

P.S. Tenngal, I work in DC. I'll work on softening everyone up to vaping before you get here :p

Jackie, This is great that you started a thread for cruisers. I lurk alot on cruise critic and was thrilled to see your thead for e-cigs. I've been using ecigs since March of 2009 and can't imagine not having these life savers. I'll be using my Tornado from Totally Wicked. I love the big mods and use my Prodigy 3 from Puresmoker at home. I'll be taking my Tornado on our Sept 3rd cruise on the Oasis and am so glad that I won't be limited to where I want to enjoy a 'vape'. I'll be glad to watch this thread and help out anyone else who has questions to get started on e-cigs. It's a whole new world out there when you don't have to worry about the smell, the smoke, the dirty looks and the feeling of being a second class human when you begin to enjoy your ecig vapes.
The best of luck to all!

For those asking about airlines, I was able to find this on the net, regarding e-cig use.

"With the increased marketing and promotion of e-cigarettes, ANR is researching airlines' policies on e-cigarettes. Based on our research, American Airlines, Continental, and Southwest are the only airlines that currently have formalized, published policies against the use of e-cigarettes onboard their aircraft. Southwest is the only airline to explicitly state the prohibition in the inflight service guide. Additionally, a U.S. Airways representative reports that the airline has an unpublished internal policy prohibiting e-cigarettes. The European airlines Virgin Atlantic, TUI, and Thomas Cook are reported to prohibit e-cigarettes but ANR has not been able to confirm this information."

I can cite the source, if you'd like to read the article, too. :) Hope that's helpful. I can also tell you that I've vaped on Airtran, though I wasn't blowing huge clouds everywhere. lol.

Questions!
How do I know when I've emptied a cartomizer? ( have a Kr808d1)

Also, if I'm not a huge fan of the flavors they were filled with (or more accurately, I ordered some for my husband and he didn't like them....and I don't want menthol) is there any way to clean them out even if they are full?

The pre-filled flavor that comes inside most kits is not the greatest, unless the supplier put in some of their own juice, rather than the china juice. Did you order any separate liquid? The tobacco flavors usually dont taste like the tobacco a smoker is use to, that's why a lot of us use the flavored liquids.

There are several ways to clean out a carto .. one way is you "blow it out", by holding a paper towel right under the battery end and you blow thru the mouth end. That wont get every single bit out, but most of it and then you can fil the carto with a "nice" liquid. The other flavor will still be there but only a little bit and by the 2nd refill should be almost gone. And if it still nasty then you can soak it in very hot water, squish it in a bowl 10-15 mins, blow it out again to remove all of the water, then you have to leave it to dry for 24-48 hrs before you can reuse it.

Memphisgurl, thank you for this info .. sad as it is to hear seeing how we usually fly Continental LOL.

Sorry I wasnt around much today, I was busy going thru my huge stock of things today, bought way too much of a lot of things plus a few mistakes, so I put a lot of things in the ECF classifieds. The classified on ECF is always a good place to check for liquids, cartos etc .. people sell them at good prices and you can also do "trades" there.

Thanks for the quick reply!!!

I'll try that out after work tomorrow. I did order them filled with "nice" juice, but the ones I got for the husband are menthol flavor, which is not "nice" in my book (I always smoked Camel Lights). He's still on the fence about e-cigs, and I'm taking over the parts I ordered for him ;)

I ordered a sampler pack of juice, so I have several flavors I'm itching to try. I added some Coconut flavor (cruiser flavor?) to the carto I've been puffing on today and it is delicious :D

Ok, I ordered 2 KR8's today from V4Life, not sure when they'll be in. DH had me order one for him also (yeah!) so I guess I'll start a little time before he does as I've been the one to do the research; I may have to be the "teacher" with this project; looks like it probably won't be tomorrow like I wanted but it will be soon! I'm getting anxious to get started. Guess those worthless sets I bought a couple of years ago will be pitched but, hey, what does a few days (or a couple?) matter when 2 people have been smoking for years?

Stash, can a newbie trade on ECF classifieds? Not sure the prefilled carts I ordered today are going to be the right ones for us. I know one has to experiment with flavors & I'd like to be able to trade if not. Actually, I'm more interested in getting off these dang cigs than what it'll cost us at first but it will still be nice to trade if needed. Thanks so much for what you're doing for CC'ers!

I picked up a starter kit from 7-11 when I was in Southern California this weekend. I am sold and loved the fact I could vape in my car with windows closed and I also liked the fact I didn't have to 'finish' the cigarette when I felt I got a good dose. I am planning a train trip this Fall and hope I can vape on the train. The biggest problem could be passengers bothering the conductor when they see me 'light up'. so I plan to let the conductor know when I board so there are no surprises. If they don't allow it despite it being smokeless I don't mind hopping out for a quickie at whistle stops, like the other smokers.

Thank you in advance!!

Empty?..a real good indicator is the plastic paper on the outside of the metal tube starts deforming from heat.

That comes many puffs after the burning mouth/lungs indicator.

Thank you, Sara!:p I'll have to be there a month. I'll be working hard, but also looking forward to the weekends, when I can go see museums and monuments. It's been nearly 20 years since I've been there! (Well, other than to change planes, anyway!)
