So, I've been waiting on some vape mail. It was sent USPS first class, which usually gets to me in three business days from anywhere in the states. I live in California, this was coming from Louisiana, a place I've ordered from many times in the past. After 5 days, it gets two towns away from me. No big deal. Another 5 days, and it arrives in Sacramento, one town away from me. Why did it take them so long to go one town over? Who knows. So, I'm waiting 4 more days, I check the tracking and where is it? Providence, Rhode Island! You were so close for so long! Now you're 3000 miles away! This is the worst routing error I've experienced with USPS as of yet.

Yeah USPS has been doing some crazy stuff lately. I had some vape gear coming from Colorado, it went to Tulsa as it should, but then for several days it got sent to the wrong post offices in my county. Then they'd send it all the way back to Tulsa and try again the next day. It finally got here though. Might should call them and see what's up.

Heh. Yea.... my current experience with them:

I ordered from an online store that is exactly 30 miles from my doorstep.

The other trick that USPS is pulling is not scanning items for tracking...

I had some gear shipped USPS Priority mail 2 Day, it took 4 days, but beyond that was only scanned once for tracking....

I am starting to loose all faith in USPS

They are really getting bad. Totally inconsistent. I live 3 hours from Atlanta and I've had things take 4 days to get from Atlanta to here. Things will just sit there for days. I currently have a package that shipped from Kentucky then went to Maine. It arrived at my PO this morning so with any luck I'll get it today. Really unbelieveable.

I am not going to defend USPS. When two boxes are picked up at the same time in the same place, yet delivered 2 days apart, it leaves you wondering. At the same time, I am amazed at the entire system. The USPS processed over 150 billion pieces of mail in 2013. That includes 3.7 billion packages. The logistics involved here have to be amazing. Then consider that some people's handwriting leaves a lot to be desired. Then consider that your average piece of first class mail can be sent from NYC to San Francisco for 50 cents. If I had to run the post office, you would likely never get your package. McDonald's employees have difficulty putting 10 mcnuggets into a box. Image if McDonald's ran the post office.

Once again, I'm not defending USPS, just trying to put things into perspective. Mistakes are bound to be made when dealing with such a high volume of product.

I agree that it is a monumental logistical task. And they usually do a really good job with my packages. Plus I'm friends with my mailman (we were both sergeants in the marine corps and both served in Iraq, so we swap war stories). This was more of an anomaly than the rule, and this was meant more as venting my frustration over this particular incident. Comparing it to fast food service is not a good argument, though, because mail delivery is a much more vital service and we shouldn't expect minimal performance just because it happens sometimes in another industry.

I'm finally getting my DIY supplies today, after ordering them a week ago with "Priority" (1-3 business days) shipping. So, Monday was a holiday, I knew nothing would ship then. Figured if I got the order in by Monday night, it should ship out Tuesday, and I'd have it by week's end. Tuesday comes and goes, and nothing happens. Wednesday comes and goes, and nothing happens. Thursday, I finally get a notice that it's been shipped, and a tracking number, but USPS doesn't have it in their system yet. Friday comes and goes, and nothing happens (are you starting to see a pattern, here?) On Saturday the 24th, around 10pm, it finally shows as "accepted by USPS" with an estimated delivery date of...Saturday, the 24th! What, so they do night-time deliveries now? Yeah right! But when it updates from "accepted by USPS" to "processed through USPS sorting facility," the estimated delivery date changed to today. It has now arrived at my local post office, doesn't say "out for delivery" yet but still shows today as the "updated delivery date." Fingers crossed...

I had some vape mail and Amazon packages being delivered last Thurs.Jan 22, 2015. I got an email from USPS saying packages were delivered at front door at 5:26 PM ( Amazon pkg was delivered thru Prime but handed off to USPS ).

I was sitting here all day and heard nothing.....nor did my dog bark. After I received notice that my packages were delivered I went outside walking 3 blocks to see if any packages were sitting on someone's else's front door...nope.

I went home and called Amazon. They were crediting my card and told me I would have to re-order. Told them how bad it is for Amazon Prime to handing off packages to USPS do to lack of poor business practices.

An hour and 15 mins later the door bell rings....my packages arrive. I went out and talked to the carrier about scanning packages early and didn't think this was acceptable practice of USPS. The carrier begged me not to call USPS and make a complaint. I did not.

I did call Amazon to let them know that I received the packages and not to give me credit back on my charge card. Told them that the carrier was scanning in packages and saying delivered. Amazon must have called the Post Office because the next day USPS called me. He said this was not their practice to scan in and mark delivered until the package has been delivered....said he'd talk to the carrier. I told the USPS supervisor that the mail system stinks. Have tracking notices but never shows scans so one must guess when the package is being delivered....he simply did not care.

I wish more vendors would let us choose another carrier such as UPS or FedEx.

USPS is under some serious fire here in Houston, a guy ordered $4k of Ham radio parts and his porch cam caught the USPS person just throwing it onto his front porch.

needless to say it was all over the news..that's 4k in broken parts, it was funny though "Amazon has credited back his account and wanted a copy of the video"

they deliver around here on Sundays now (hey we order well over 50% of our purchases, even dog food from Amazon Prime, it's cheaper no retail price tagged on to it)

I've had some juice go on a tour of the South Texas countryside for three days, hey the heat helped it steep so I wasn't unhappy :p

USPS definitely has some work to do at upping their game. Right now they're the best and least expensive thing going, they out perform UPS (we say OOPS) so we're stuck with them for now I guess.

I am going to start choosing fedex or ups when I have something shipped from now on. I just had a fiasco with USPS too.

I had 4 things that were supposed to be dropped off early last week. One was supposed to be delivered on Tuesday, which I ended up having to pick up on Saturday since it hasn't been delivered. The other one which also came from Florida was dropped off Friday instead of Wednesday like it said. And the other two that were supposed to be delivered Thursday, were dropped off Saturday.

The messed up part, they all said "Out for delivery" at one point well before delivered, and when they were obviously not dropped off...tracking updated saying "Status not updated". So I had no idea where any of my stuff was.

It's amazing the lack of responsibility the USPS has being the UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE and "taking care" of everyones mail, they sure have no liability.

LOL, yeah mine was "Out for delivery" at one point 9 days ago when it was 2 towns away. On the plus side, it left Rhode Island today so hopefully it's coming back to California again.

a theory as to why things go way out of the way....

shipping containers need to be filled and if there isnt enuf to fill it that day, it waits until there is enuf to fill it and ship.... instead of waiting a day or 3 to fill it with packages that are destined to go there, they throw in some local stuff to get the container filled... and this is a reason the package travels from L.A. to Rhode Island for the weekend :)

I like this theory....

Wow, OP, that's crazy! Well, I know it's not just me, ordered from a place I've ordered from regularly for a couple years that's 3 hrs from me......usually takes 2 business days once shipped, it's been stuck in Houston since the 21st. They had a delivery date, 2 days ago, today put in an exception saying....guess what, you didn't get that, it's still here.

thinking of ginny's post......maybe the houston po is playing volleyball with it.
