I posted awhile ago about getting my dad to start vaping. He has been vaping now for a couple of weeks and loves it. He was down to only one cig a day by the third day. The one cig he hasn't been able to give up is the one just before bed. He says if he doesn't have it, he can't get to sleep. If he does manage to fall asleep, he wakes up a couple hours later and can't fall back to sleep so he has to get up to have one and then he is wide awake. Any suggestions for giving up that last cig?

Give him a little more time. Do not up the nic before bed time try a lower nic amt instead as the nicotine will keep him up. It is possible that the level he currently is using before bed is too high and that is what is keeping him up.
I think he is doing great that in such a short time has eliminated all but the one. Tell him keep up the good work!

As of now, I don't think he will up the nic. He seems adamant. Maybe taking the ecig to bed would work. Will have him try that. It must be hard on him mentally to suddenly be able to (almost) quit and so easily after trying to quit for so long. Kinda like "too good to be true".

So WHEN he finally gives up that last cig, when should he start lowering the nic gradually?

Most people started out with just one cig a day! and then it is two, and then three....

I had issues giving up the first one of the morning, and the one right before bed. So, I kept at it- and refused to feel guilty about it. Eventually I gave those up too- just didn't want them anymore.

He'll probably give those up in his own time...no worries. Any reduction in smoking is a big win! Way to go Dad!

His body will tell him when it's time to cut his levels- some people never do.

Remember it took him a long time to develop his smoking habit and it will take him time to switch. For some it is very easy so don't let him be discouraged, instead of thinking dang I'm still having a cig have him think I'm doing great I'm not having 20 or so cigs :D
As for starting to lower his nic content don't be in too much of a rush let his body tell him when to start lowering. I would hate to see him do so well only to back step because he tried to go too fast.
I wish you and your dad the best in this new journey!

I take my ecig with meto bed- matter of fact, I take a 510 to bed (I vape a riva through out the day) - and I keep one certain type of flavor it in- thats my 'bedtime' vape only. I take cinnibomb to bed- to clean my pallet and to tell my body that we are done for the day- I also take a glass of water- never anything else.

One more for the "Don't worry about it" crowd. Dropping from 20+ a day to one before bed is GREAT! Focus on the positive here. He'll eventually give up that evening cig on his own as they start tasting worse and worse and he really gets the vaping down. I was the same way, even after I started to vape I still had a bedtime cigarette, and for a few days the after-meals cigarette. Then I just kinda... stopped.

Your dad is kicking ..., celebrate the good :)

He knows himself best...but from experience, I got to a point where that first and last cigarette just felt gross. They weren't as fun, or tasty as an ecig- so it became a "why bother". It took me a few months.

If he lights one up during the day- no big deal. Just go back to vaping. He's still hooked on nicotine, so it's not like it's the big step backwards like when you're trying to quit cold turkey. I had a 24 hour relapse, and smoked an entire pack a few weeks ago- no biggie. Every analog just reinforces how great ecigs are for me.
