We've had a lot of good data given so far on the burnt taste problem, but in a way it's too much. It's so spread out in so many threads that all I can really go by is a general perception. I need to collect and organize all that data to make stronger hypothesis'. But frankly, that's way too big a task for one person, so I'm going to ask for your help again.

I'm looking for suggestions on how to most easily gather and organize the data, and for volunteers to help do it.

This is ultimatly anecdotal data, so we can keep collection standards and data analysis method simple, but it will help me set priorities in which hypothesis' to test first, help me set the levels for the control variables, help me design test methodology, etc.

Anyone willing to help? Any opening thoughts?

I'm down for the cause.

As I noted before, I have Boba's blend coming, which is 100% VG. I also have some pure, unflavored Dekang PG that I can use to thin a straight VG juice, though I don't know what that will do to taste.

As for the controls. I think carto age--new or pre-filled has to be addressed. As dose filling method in general and how much liquid was used in particular.

I believe there are some Excel files out there that some members use to rate juices. One of those could be used, or modified if necessary for this.

Just a thought.

I've only been using BMF cartos since mid-January but here's what I've got:

I've gone through 72 pre-filled cartos and 17 blanks (89 total). About a dozen of the pre-filled cartos were given away for other folks to try, so I've only actually used about 60 of the pre-filleds myself.

45 of those cartos (17 blanks and 28 pre-filled) have been assigned to their own bottle of juice for refilling and are still in use. Five more are standing by to be refilled. The remaining 27 were either thrown away early on, before I knew better, or because I didn't feel like carrying the empty around. I'd estimate that about a third of these 45 cartos have been refilled only once, another third has been refilled twice, and the other third has been refilled 3-8 times.

Most of my juices are 20%VG/80%PG and I seem to go through about 5-7ml a day. I have only used my cartos on 3.7v devices; BMF auto batteries, V4L auto & manual batteries, and the Elegant Easy which is manual.

I had one blank that was just plain DOA, and 2-3 pre-filled cartos, early on, that seemed under-filled.

I have never had one that tasted burnt, other than the flavor change that is normal once the carto has been vaped to near-dry, and every one of those has been fine once refilled.

I think if your testing the VG variable you have to test it in a chain vaping way as well as a way that replicates traditional smoking, my experience with ce2r4's has always been that if you let it sit between puffs (say 4 puffs and put it down) you can avoid the burning taste....but if you chain vape you are asking for more than that particular juice/wick combination can deliver. A bloog cartomizer obviously isn't a ce2r4 but it does have that wick in the middle.

I would assume testing the voltage variable would be as simple as getting a variable volt and setting it to various levels. Of course when you have done the testing at various voltages using a pg juice you could go back and use a 100% VG juice and see if that even further lowers the maximum voltage allowed. Again you would want to test it at 4 or 5 puffs and rest and then a chain puffing scenario....because everyone vapes differently, by testing it both ways you can see if it is possibly a usage style issue as well.

Those are just the variables I would test for at first, I could be wrong. VG, Voltage, Vaping Speeds. Thats based off of what I see here where people are saying they get burned tastes from high VG juices and other kr808 batteries.

I planned on doing some cartomizer/battery tests in march anyway and will post my findings on ecf, but it will probably be mid March.

edit: someone noticed on a map tank that his wick was overly compressed and that affected the wicking action...don't know if that could be an issue or not.
